All living things need food for survival
There are many types of food we can eat,
and different types of food can have
different effect on our body. Many food
may keep us healthy but some foods
may not
Food Groups
GRAINS

There are five main food groups
VEGETABLES
DAIRY PRODUCT
Each food group contain
nutrients, which are things
we need for energy,
growth, and health.
1. Grains
NUTRIENTS: Carbohydrates in the form of
starch
FUNCTIONS: carbohydrates give us energy
to carry out life processes
EXAMPLE: rice, cereals, pasta, bread,
potatoes, and wheat.
2. Meats, Eggs, and Beans
Nutrients Functions
- Proteins - Proteins helps us repair our body
and build strong muscles
- Vitamins and mineral such as
Vitamin A, Vitamin B and Iron
- Vitamins and mineral help our body
to function properly and prevent us
from falling sick
- Vitamin A helps us to see better in
the dark
- Vitamin B help us convert the food
we eat into energy
- Irons helps blood carry oxygen to all
part of our body
3. Fruits
Nutrients Functions
- Vitamin and minerals such as
vitamin C, vitamin E, and potassium
- Vitamins and mineral help our body
to function properly and prevent us
from falling sick
- Vitamin C keeps us from falling sick
- Vitamin E help us slow down ageing
- Potassium help us balance the
amount of water in our blood and
body
- Fibre - Fibre helps us pass out faeces
easily.
4. Vegetables

- Vitamin and minerals such as
vitamin A, vitamin C and Zinc
- Vitamins and mineral help our body
to function properly and prevent us
from falling sick
- Vitamin A helps us see better at
night
- Vitamin C keeps us from falling sick.
- Zinc help our skeletons to grow
properly
- Fibre - Fibre helps us pass out faeces
easily.
5. Dairy product
Nutrients Functions
- Calcium (a type of mineral) - Mineral helps our body to function
properly and prevent us from falling
sick
- Calcium helps us build strong bones
and teeth
- Proteins - Helps us repair our body and build
our muscles.

Oil, Fats, and Sugary food
Another food group is oil, fats and
sugary foods. Sugary food contain
carbohydrates in form of sugars.
Oils, fats and carbohydrates give
us energy. However, we do not
need to eat much from this group
Balance diet &
Regular exercise
Balanced diet
Balanced diet give us the energy and
nutrients we need. To maintain a
balanced die. We should eat foods from
all the food groups in the proportions
as shown in the nutrition guide ‘my
plate’

Here are some tips on healthier
eating:
- Fruits and vegetables should
make up half of your meals
- Drink fat-free or low-fat milk
- Cut down on foods that are high
in salt
- Drink water instead of sugary
drinks
Exercise
The benefit of exercise:
- Helps to build strong muscles and
bones
- Helps us to get energy from the
foods we eat more efficiently
- Helps us to become more flexible,
so we can stretch more easily
- Exercise prevents us from falling
sick
- Reduces stress. It helps to take our
minds off our work
- Keeps our heart healthy
