High country seeds of change project narrative
This project aims to strengthen the local food system and economy in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. Over the next 5 years, it seeks to increase access to healthy local food, diversify livelihoods, and develop a financially sustainable regional food network. In year one, activities will include expanding season extension programs, aggregating and distributing local foods, establishing institutional buyers, providing business support, and growing a coalition of partners. Securing additional funding and technical assistance would allow the project to serve more farmers and communities across the Appalachian region.

High country seeds of change project narrative
This project aims to strengthen the local food system and economy in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. Over the next 5 years, it seeks to increase access to healthy local food, diversify livelihoods, and develop a financially sustainable regional food network. In year one, activities will include expanding season extension programs, aggregating and distributing local foods, establishing institutional buyers, providing business support, and growing a coalition of partners. Securing additional funding and technical assistance would allow the project to serve more farmers and communities across the Appalachian region.

The Urban League provides various volunteer and education programs to help African Americans and other community members. Last year, 989 volunteers contributed over 19,000 hours of service worth $436,637. The Urban League's programs served over 4,600 people directly and another 10,000 through outreach. Their mission is to ensure communities of color are educated, employed, and empowered through programs like academic tutoring, job training, career fairs, and community engagement activities.

CYI works to accomplish these goals through various working groups focused on areas like pathways beyond high school, juvenile justice, and out-of-school time activities. It also has a Youth Council to give youth a voice and guide programs to benefit local students.
