Exam Surviving Guide
The exam will have 3 parts: Part I  25 Multiple choice questions: there will be 3 options and only one correct.  Specific concepts will be asked.  Total: 40 pt.  /1.6 pt. per right answer.
Part II 5 short answer questions: 150 words at maximum. Concepts and notions will be developed briefly.  Total: 30 pt / 6 pts per answer.
Part III Develop the  analisys  of a building or an element involved in a urban reform.  600 words at maximum and 300 words at minimum. Total: 30 pt.
Possible questions for the 3rd part of the exam: 1.  The city in the Roman Empire: Structure and main areas of the city and function of each area.  The importance of the city for the Roman Empire. 2. The city and the Middle Ages: Main characteristics.  Historical and social frame in which the cities grew. The burgs, the guilds and the universities (10th -13th Centuries). 3. The urban plan reforms in the Italian Renaissance: Main characteristics of this period. Which kind of urban plan reforms were done? Give an example discussed in class.  4. Industrial Revolution and the changes in the city: the value of the soil, the organizations of the space, social conflicts and alternatives.  5. Haussman Plan from Paris.  6. The Roman city wall from Barcelona: origins of the city wall, localization of the main remains and explanation about the gates without remains. 7. Growth of Barcelona outside the Roman city walls: 10th-13th C. The burgs.  8. The Cathedral of Barcelona: History, main characteristics of the gothic style with Catalan specific features, main areas of the building.  9. Plaça del Rei: Main buildings commented in class, localization and functions.
