Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, and sometimes meditation and philosophy. There are different expressions of taekwondo philosophy since it was developed by several different schools. It takes about six years to earn a black belt, which signifies maturity and imperviousness to darkness and fear. The philosophy of taekwondo is to build a more peaceful world by developing character, personality, and moral traits in each practitioner.
