Congestion tolls can help remedy the congestion-related market failure by making driving more expensive and cities more compact. To address pollution-related sprawl requires a higher gasoline tax and taxes on housing and land equivalent to a carbon tax, which studies show could shrink a city's land area by up to 36% and reduce emissions by 19%. While urban growth boundaries treat a symptom of sprawl, they do not directly address the underlying market failures driving excessive spatial expansion.

State of the Map Asia (SotM-Asia) is the annual regional conference of OpenStreetMap (OSM) organized by OSM communities in Asia. First SotM-Asia was organized in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2015, and the second was organized in Manila, Philippines in 2016. This year’s conference, third in the series, was organized in Kathmandu, Nepal on September 23 – 24, 2017 at Park Village Resort, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal.
We brought nearly 200 Open Mapping enthusiasts from Asia and beyond to this year’s SotM-Asia. The event provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experience among mappers; expand their network; and generate ideas to expand map coverage and effective use of OSM data in Asian continent. We chose ‘from creation to use of OSM data’ as the theme of this year’s conference, emphasizing on the effective use of OSM data. We also brought together a government panel from four different countries in this year’s SotM-Asia. We believe this event will deepen the bond and enhance collaboration among OSM communities across Asia.

This document discusses the history and roles of Regional Development Organizations (RDOs) in Minnesota and their relationship with MnDOT (Minnesota Department of Transportation). RDOs were established in 1969 and work on transportation, economic development, and planning issues. MnDOT has provided them grants since the late 1970s. RDOs provide local expertise to MnDOT. Their work includes regional transportation planning, project selection for funding programs, and involvement in various MnDOT committees. Upcoming changes from MAP-21 may impact their roles, but MnDOT values their partnership with RDOs.
Complete Streets workshop presentation
On May 20, 2010, Mary Raulerson of Kittelson & Associates held a workshop in Portland, OR which introduced and illustrated best practices in the field of Complete Streets using case studies she has been directly involved with around the country. During the workshop, special attention was given to the obstacles that had to be overcome and the solutions that worked. The goal of this session was to help identify and tailor practices that will further strengthen the region’s move toward creating, connecting and complimenting great places with great multimodal rights-of-way.

This year’s conference, third in the series, was organized in Kathmandu, Nepal on September 23 – 24, 2017 at Park Village Resort, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu, Nepal.
We brought nearly 200 Open Mapping enthusiasts from Asia and beyond to this year’s SotM-Asia. The event provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experience among mappers; expand their network; and generate ideas to expand map coverage and effective use of OSM data in Asian continent. We chose ‘from creation to use of OSM data’ as the theme of this year’s conference, emphasizing on the effective use of OSM data. We also brought together a government panel from four different countries in this year’s SotM-Asia. We believe this event will deepen the bond and enhance collaboration among OSM communities across Asia.

This document discusses the history and roles of Regional Development Organizations (RDOs) in Minnesota and their relationship with MnDOT (Minnesota Department of Transportation). RDOs were established in 1969 and work on transportation, economic development, and planning issues. MnDOT has provided them grants since the late 1970s. RDOs provide local expertise to MnDOT. Their work includes regional transportation planning, project selection for funding programs, and involvement in various MnDOT committees. Upcoming changes from MAP-21 may impact their roles, but MnDOT values their partnership with RDOs.

Complete Streets workshop presentation
On May 20, 2010, Mary Raulerson of Kittelson & Associates held a workshop in Portland, OR which introduced and illustrated best practices in the field of Complete Streets using case studies she has been directly involved with around the country. During the workshop, special attention was given to the obstacles that had to be overcome and the solutions that worked. The goal of this session was to help identify and tailor practices that will further strengthen the region’s move toward creating, connecting and complimenting great places with great multimodal rights-of-way.

Land use and transportation planning are closely related. How land is used, whether for residential, commercial, or industrial purposes, affects transportation needs. For example, locating shops near homes so they are within walking distance reduces car trips, while commercial developments along highways primarily encourage car trips. Additionally, the cycle of building new roads to access development, which then spurs more development and increased traffic along that road, can create intense pressure on commuters and transportation systems over time in fast-growing regions if left uncontrolled. The City of Tarpon Springs seeks to revitalize its downtown core areas and encourage redevelopment for a vibrant, thriving, destination with a wide range of travel options. The principal ways proving access to the City's urban neighborhoods are constrained and cannot be widened to meet existing or future demand generated by redevelopment. In addition, existing future land use and zoning regulations are out of touch with the area's traditional urban form.

Neighbourhood plans allow local communities to shape development in their area. They become part of the statutory development plan once approved at referendum. The process involves gathering evidence of community preferences, drafting plan policies and site allocations, consulting the community, undergoing examination, and approval by referendum. Key issues addressed often include housing, design standards, and identifying sites for development. The plan must meet basic conditions of national policy and sustainable development to be adopted.
