At CWU DesMoines your success is a priority for us ..some of the top tips for success here, from faculty and staff are: Be realistic about the amount of time you will need to be successful in your course work when working and managing family activities. More and more it seems that students are over committed and as a result suffer stress and break downs. Online classes are not less work. Read the text. You are required to purchase textbooks and assigned other readings for a reason. Be sure and read them and apply what you learned through that reading to your exams and other assigned work. Utilize the writing center for improving writing, study and analysis skills. You may be taking tests that require essay questions, if you have never taken an test based on essay questions you may want to ask the faculty for some tips. Essay tests require that you write well and are analytical. Google and Wikipedia are not scholarly resource tools. Be critical of the resources you find online. Use the resources we have available - advising, career counselor, library, writing center etc. Be aware of deadlines- registration, drop dates, payments due etc. Get to know people, other students, staff and faculty. Get involved in student leadership, clubs and organizations. Go to career fairs. Get involved with Student Leadership and other clubs and activities.

Attend every class, show up on time, turn assignments in on time. Get to know other students and set up peer study groups. We are here to help..ask questions! Use the library, the Writing and Math Center. For ever hour you spend in class you will spend two outside of class studying and completing assignments. That can equal 30 hours for 15 credits!

Things to dochecklist: Review your transfer credit report Access Safari and CWU Email You will need you Student ID and Pin Number which was sent in a letter from Admissions (if you cannot find the PIN number contact the Registrar’s office to have the number reset) All of the following have been submitted: • Official High School Transcripts • Official ACT or SAT score reports • Official transcripts of any college work (Running Start, etc.) • Official AP, IB or CLEP scores (if applicable) • Completed Essay questions (if applicable) I have been admitted to my major I have met with an academic counselor I have registered for classes Make a habit of reviewing your academic requirements report: If you have questions regarding your AR report contact your advisor Know your graduation requirements Paid tuition, etc.

- #11 Acceptance to the university does not mean that you have been accepted to your major. That is a separate step you need to take. You need to meet the pre admissions requirements to be accepted.
- #21 The University catalog is the official resource for university policy and procedures. Navigate to the CWU Homepage, go to academics and select catalog. From that page you select online catalog and that will take you to the online catalog. You will also notice, on this page, that there is an app for a smart phone or an iPhone, I suggest you add that to your phone too. Much of the information provided there pertains to students in Ellensburg, but I am hoping for an app for us someday and the catalog can also be accessible from the app., Blackboard information, access to Safari, the Course Catalog, the Bookstore, CWU You Tube Videos, Tech Support etc.

- #25 (this is just the Student Center Guide) Once you get your username and password for safari you will want to log in to Safari.Whenyou log in to Safari you will see the Student Center. Where information that applies to you, as a student, is housed. Access enrollment information, academic records, personal contact information (please keep this updated), and financial information, holds and your to do list ---Items the university has determined that you need to take action on. Your academic requirement report is also here. Review it Often! Review the report in its entirety by clicking on expand all.
- #26 We serve different types of transfer students. If you are transferring in with a direct transfer agreement or already have a Bachelor’s degree you have already met the general education requirements. If you do not have a degree already, but have prior gen ed credits then you will need to review your gen eds with your advisor and determine how that fits the general education requirements, this worksheet will help you do that. You must have 180 quarter credits to graduate, 60 of these must be upper division and you can transfer in a max of 135.
- #30 While you are a student at CWU in Des Moines you are required to purchase a parking permit from Highline Community College. When you go up to Highline be sure and take along verification that you are an enrolled student here, the number of credit hours, etc.
- #33 When you have been admitted to CWU you still have to apply to your major. In order to be accepted to your major you have to meet the preadmission requirements for that major.
