- 2. Grades and transcripts… At the end of the semester you can check your grades on Blackboard. They are located under the Academics tab, in a yellow highlighted box. Students may ask for either official (sealed) or unofficial (unsealed) transcripts in Schwarz Hall, Room 40. Semester Honors andDeans List Semester Honors- have at least six credit hours in the semester index with a semester index of at least 3.5, and maintain a 2.0 overall GPA to achieve Semester honors. The Deans List- have at least 12 hours included in the cumulative GPA have at least 6 hours included in the semester GPA attain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA have at least a 3.0 current semester GPA To graduate with honors- your semester GPA must be a 2.0, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and have earned at least 65 hours Source- “Purdue University Northwest website under Dean of Students”
- 4. Registration and grades Registration begins October 24, 2016 For freshman registration begins November 1, 2016 and is all completed online. Repealing grades- You must first talk to the professor and see if they will work with you, if not you must contact the Dean of Students- there is paperwork you must fill out and a process of why you deserve a different grade. “Purdue University Website under Registration and Transcripts”
- 5. Experimental learning Experientiallearning means gaining active, hands-on experience in the real world as part of a student’s academic program. Integrating the formal classroom instructional process with practical experience enhances learning. Important because you get a real life experience and hands on for future jobs. - 6. AACSB Association toAdvance Collegiate Schools of Business is what it stands for. It is important to a student because it provides more majors, it gives them a better chance of getting a job when they graduate, and is the highest accredited college level in Northwest Indiana. Benefits the college- with more classes to choose from, more majors and a higher level of education, even providing more money to the college of business. Source-”Purdue University Northwest News”
- 7. Mentors and tutors Mentors can help suggest classes to take, help with choosing a major and lead you in the right direction in the College of Business. They are assigned to you after 60 hours, until them you have an advisor, they all have an office. You will meet them before college actually begins for you. They can help you in many ways and keep you on track to getting the degree you want, and also answer any questions that you have. - 8. Bill questions andpayment If you have a question about your bill talk to the bursar’s office located in Schwarz 127. Spring payment is not posted yet, after you register for classes the amount due and due date will be posted under the Bills and Payments tab on the PNW website. - 9. Health Benefits: Physicaland mental Physical- The new building at PNW has a brand new gym that is free to students. There are many sports, and activities that are free to you because you are a student. Mental- PNW offers a Counseling Center in LSF to use this you can schedule and appointment online and meet with them free of charge. They are there to help you and be a support system. STEP1- Complete the Petition for New Registered Student Organization - A student or group of students needs to receive 20 signatures of students interested in supporting their proposed organization, have a qualified faculty or staff member as their student organization advisor, and have established who the elected officers will be. STEP 2- Write a constitution and bylaws- The constitution outline contains several items that must appear in each organization’s constitution according to Purdue University policy, which are in bold print. You may wish to include additional points that will provide more explicit guidelines for the organization of your group. Please remember that a well written constitution should contain all necessary information in concise language. STEP 3- Submit all Required Paperwork to the Appropriate Staff-A copy of the student organization constitution should accompany the petition and be presented to Amanda Champlin, Student Organization and Leadership Coordinator in the Office of the Dean of Students on the Calumet campus, or to Amanda Schacht, Director of Student Life on the North Central campus. The Signature Authorization Form must be completed and submitted to the appropriate staff member provided above. Allow two weeks for the staff to review the petition and constitution before receiving notification on the student organization’s registration status. STEP 4- Establish a financial account- Once approved by the Office of the Dean of Students and Student Life the Business/Bursar Office will be notified to create a financial account for your organization. - 11. Jobs Students whowish to work on campus must complete an online Application for On Campus Student Employment. Students who are eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) are responsible for accepting their Work Study award in the Self Service Student Banner account (MyPNW). All On campus jobs are found using handshake on the PNW website. You can also talk to your advisor and ask them about jobs available on campus. Source “PNW website under career center”
- 12. Student government associationand complaint filling The Student Government of Purdue University Northwest serves as the chief advocate for student interests at the University. This means that they protect and help students interests academically and physically. COB reps: Shawna DeGraff and Kurt Urbanski they can be contacted through the Bursars office, they have their contact information. Child care TheLion Cubs Child Care operates during the Fall and Spring semesters on the Westville campus, to provide high-quality child care service for the children of students, faculty, and staff members at Purdue Northwest. Located in LSF 135 Monday-Friday and Saturday, Fall and Spring semesters. The children can play and actually learn at the same time for an affordable price. PCSTAR and Blackboard Pc star is place where students can access information ranging from admissions information, course information, student grades, and Financial Aid, Student Account Services, and payment schedules. You can view your GPA, current payment options and classes you can take. It is a good source to view your info and help answer your questions. To get help with blackboard you can visit Tech services on the second floor of the tech building, they can help with anything from blackboard and account passwords. - 15. Resetting passwords, emailsand alert me. To get help resetting your password you can do it online under forgot my password when you log in or you can visit the Tech services center on the second floor of the Tech Building. You can check you email directly off the PNW website, you can forward it to another email address by logging into your email and going to your email and selecting that it be forwarded to another email. You will then enter the email you want it to be forwarded it too. You should check your email often, teachers will send you assignments, emergency messages come through there, and if class is ever canceled you will be notified in this way. Alert me is a way for the campus to contact you if there is an emergency, school closure or important information that could affect you. Sports, Schedule andCost There are 8 sports offered at this campus they are Volleyball Cross County Tennis Soccer Golf Basketball Softball Baseball You can find the schedule of events on this website http://www.pnwathletics.com/ most of the home games are free to students, if they are away the cost is usually under $5 to attend. The cost of games varies on location and what it is. Also my source
- 18. Honors College Inorder to get in the Honors College you must be a student capable of significant extracurricular engagement while also maintaining high levels of academic achievement. In reviewing each application, the Honors College therefore considers the entire person. There are no firm minimum criteria in terms of scores; however, it is recommended that students have a current GPA of at least 3.4 and SAT scores (or ACT equivalents) of least 500 in each area. You can apply for the honors college online on the PNW website if you search Honors College. There is an application listed online. The Honors College benefits you in receiving financial aid, getting a better paying job when you graduate and even graduating higher up in your class. Source “PNW website under Honors College link”
- 19. Best advice.. Thefive things I wish someone would have told me before entering college are.. Ask questions when you do not understand Use the sources in the school if you need help Re-read the material in the book Do not be afraid to go and talk to your professor if you have questions Use you spare time at school to study and do homework.
- 20. Helpful tips… Wherecan I get help with my math homework? If you need help with math the Student Success Center in LSF if great and it is free! What can I do if my car wont start or I locked the keys in it? You can contact the PNW police department and they can try to retrieve your keys for you and even jump your car if it is dead. How many credit hours do I have to take? There is no minimum amount of credit hours you have to take, 15 is recommended but is not a requirement. You must do what is best for you and your schedule.
