Editor's Notes

  • #3 All 36 libraries in Northamptonshire have a facebook page. We also have a facebook page for our mobile libraries, bookstart scheme, LRE, enterprise hubs, and Local BBC Radio book club. These are managed locally but we do have the ability to add content to all of the pages centrally. Created a facebook user profile and they set up all the pages. The libraries log into the facebook user account and then click on their page to update it. The pages are moderated for quality. Facebook champions.
  • #4 662 likes now.
  • #9 Has anyone got anything else that they’ve done to grow facebook likes that they’d like to share?
  • #10 Sometimes you can have a moment of brilliance quite by accident.
  • #12 If we look closer....
  • #13 We can see that people are starting to tag others in the post. Total number of views 2145.
  • #14 National love libraries day is last on slide - Dr Who’s 50th Anniversary – Day of the Doctor. Alot in the national press, very popular with children. Northampton – lucky position as Matt Smith who was the Doctor is from Northampton. Unfortunate in that he rarely does public appearances and has never acknowledged any of our requests. However we have that link and a library decided to maximise on this for Day of the Doctor.
  • #15 Another law to remember – copyright – statement on poster.
  • #16 Teaser campaign - Engaging, humourous, storytelling style engages the audience.
  • #20 Perspective – bubble bath and toy.
  • #25 Difficult as being painfully honest about a flop of mine. It’s not always a good idea to latch onto a National Campaign. Think through the idea fully first.
  • #26 Ran a competition and also encouraged libraries to hold class visits or other activiites on World Book Day or during that week. Quite a bit of work involved in the competition as had to produce terms and conditions including things like – how the winner will be selected, that the competition is for N’hants residents only and the winner needs to agree to promotion of the win.
  • #27 Scheduled some tweets to promote what the libraries were doing and we also had some scheduled about the competition and we contacted influential followers and asked them to retweet the competition.
  • #28 Had quite a few entries but there was a big problem. Can anyone guess what it was? Unfortunately they weren’t Northamptonshire residents. There are alot of people on twitter who search for competitions and enter everything. To tell if they lived in Northamptonshire (if they hadn’t stated on their profile) I had to trawl through their tweets to try and figure out if they were local. Only 3 entries were from Northamptonshire residents
  • #29 Had a happy ending as the family that won had only just moved to the village and the mum has started volunteering at the library as a result so had a big impact for that family but not a far reaching impact.
  • #30 People can complain publically and it needs to be handled correctly.
  • #31 People can post negative feedback on social media. Procedures in place for handling feedback. Policy doc, all local staff trained so should have awareness. Don’t discuss on social media. Take away from public arena.
  • #32 Keep your pages up to date.
  • #33 To avoid an ugly situation you must remember the two golden rules
  • #34 Garden got vandalised – had a rant on facebook about the youth of today as thought that young people had done it. Got spotted by information team and the post was removed and staff reminded of appropriate usage.
