What are users expecting from mobile assets, today and tomorrow?inFullMobile
Mobile users expect engaging and convenient experiences from both apps and websites on their devices. While mobile engagement and time spent on devices is increasing, making purchases via mobile often faces hurdles like complicated checkout processes. Leading retailers are adopting approaches like one-click checkout, alternative payment options, and personalization to improve the mobile commerce experience. Chatbots, visual interfaces, computer vision capabilities, and voice assistants also show promise in enhancing how people interact with brands and make purchases from their mobile devices.
Web development is a broad term that includes various activities involved in developing websites and web applications. It involves web design, content development, scripting, security configuration, and e-commerce applications. Web design encompasses skills like graphic design, interface design, coding, search engine optimization and more. The history of web development began in 1989 with Tim Berners-Lee's proposal to create the World Wide Web. Many technologies were developed throughout the 90s and 2000s that shaped the modern web, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browsers, servers, smartphones and more.
Responsive design is an approach to building websites that automatically adapts content and layout to different screen sizes and devices. It allows a single website to be accessed from any device without needing separate mobile sites. The benefits are that it future-proofs sites, provides a consistent user experience across devices, and reduces costs by only needing to update content in one place. When deciding whether to use responsive design, it is suitable for new medium to large sites and site redesigns, but not for existing non-responsive sites.

DITA and Information Architecture for Responsive Web Designdclsocialmedia
Increasingly people are reading your technical content using a mobile device. How can you ensure that your DITA-based content can be read equally-well by a lineman using his weatherproofed tablet 18ft above the street, or an electronics engineer using her smartphone in a clean-room environment? The answer: responsive content. But designing effective responsive content is not just a matter of picking an HTML template and hoping for the best: you need to think about how your content will be presented, its priority to the user and how they can navigate through it. Building Communities from Peter AbrahamPage Lizard
Membership organizations and publishers can learn about engagement from each other. Engagement requires connecting with audiences at a deeper level through high-quality content and assets experienced over an extended period of time. It is important to focus on long-term member retention rather than just short-term acquisition. True engagement goes beyond things like email newsletters and involves a two-way value exchange where the organization and its members can benefit each other.
Building Communities from Patrick fullerPage Lizard
This document discusses modern media strategies for organizations and brands. It notes that while magazine revenues are declining, most people still pay for the experience. It also discusses how publishers are embracing marketing techniques like response and lead generation. Brands are developing their own media skills through content marketing, thought leadership, communities, and storytelling. Going forward, both publishers and brands will continue innovating in media as the lines between advertising and content continue to blur.
PPA Business Media Summit 2015: Next Level Engagement – Targeted ContentPage Lizard
In the digital world why should one size fit all…? Digital publishing has undergone something of a transformation over the past few years, with the focus shifting from ‘issue-based’ publishing where everything is released in a print-style bundle, to ‘continuous publishing’ where articles are released more frequently. Could digital publishing now be entering a third phase, where targeted content is king?
The document discusses article-based publishing and its importance. It presents on the topic from Sean Briggs of Creative Workflows and Page Lizard, a digital publishing solutions company. Article-based publishing involves delivering individual media stories across diverse digital destinations like social media and apps to monetize content. Current examples include Flipboard, LinkedIn Pulse, and publisher websites. Page Lizard offers strategic partnerships and technologies to help publishers automate converting content like PDFs into optimized articles that can be distributed through multiple digital channels.
This document summarizes Apple News, a new app that will aggregate news content from publishers. It will be pre-installed on iOS 9 devices in English-speaking countries. Publishers can create branded channels using Apple's CMS or by submitting RSS feeds. A new Apple News Format will allow for rich, adaptive layouts. Publishers can monetize content through iAd, earning 100% of sales if they sell directly or 70% if Apple handles ads. Several issues for publishers are discussed, such as loss of control over content and restrictions to certain territories and devices. Other news aggregation platforms like Facebook Instant Articles and Google Play Newsstand are also briefly mentioned.
The document discusses how membership organizations have moved from print to digital communications and the impact on member engagement. It surveys 20 organizations who have digitized magazines and other materials in the past 5 years. Key findings include that 66% saw a significant increase in digital engagement, 83% were able to reach younger audiences digitally, and digital-only members require less staff management. The document provides recommendations on analytics, events, social media and case studies on how different organizations engaged their digital memberships.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

5th Power Grid Model Meet-up
It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.
