Judaism originated from the story of Abraham, who made a covenant with God to worship only one God. God changed Abraham's name and promised to make him the father of a great nation. Abraham and his wife Sarah journeyed to Canaan, where God later tested Abraham's faith by commanding him to sacrifice his son Isaac. The shofar, a ram's horn, is an important Jewish symbol that is blown during holidays to symbolize the ram Abraham sacrificed in place of Isaac. Synagogues are places of Jewish worship that face toward the Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism which was originally part of a synagogue in Jerusalem.
