Wellness Redefined: The Wonders of Alternative Medicines
Alternative Medicine - are practices claimed to have the healing effects of medicine
but are disproven or any harmful.
Proposed Resolution in promoting alternative medicines:
• There is a need for value re-orientation in the medical school-hospital as support
system to promote the viability of community medicine practice
• Medical academe should actively promote and advocate community medicine as a
career path among young doctors and medical students
• Integrate the concept of community-based medical practice into the medical
curriculum
• Form a community physicians’ organization to advance the discipline not only in
the academe and medical community
Republic Act. 1843: An Act Creating the Philippine Institute of Traditional and
Alternative Health Care to Accelerate the Development of Traditional and Alternative
Health Care in the Philippines.
Top 10 medicinal plants:
1. Akapulbo (Cassia alata) – known as “bayabas-
bayasan” and “ringworm bush”. This herbal
medicine is used to treat ringworms and skin
fungal infections.

Ampalaya (Allium sativum) – know as
“bittergourd”. It is most known as a treatment
of diabetes, for the non-insulin dependent
patients.

Tips for Common Health Problems:
• Athlete’s Foot - put a few drops of tea tree oil on the areas affected by
athlete's foot four times a day.
• Constipation - dip a q-tip into a bottle of mineral oil. Insert the oily q-tip very
gently on the rectum. Older folks can probably go to the entire length of the q-
tip just fine and may want to these two or three times. And lie about for 30
minutes.
• Lice - simply get a new jar of mayonnaise from your kitchen or grocery store.
Grab a handful and cover all your child's hair. Cover the hair with a plastic
shower cap to keep the mayonnaise intact in your child's hair. Leave the
