Makerere University is Uganda's oldest and largest university, established in 1922 as a technical school. It has approximately 40,000 students, of which 5-10% are postgraduates. The student population is roughly split between male and female students, and there are around 12,000 annual graduates. The university employs about 3,000 staff across its academic and administrative departments. It is organized into several colleges that were formed from merging former faculties, and offers bachelor's, master's and PhD programs.

Approximately 12,000 students graduate from Makerere University annually.

3.  The University employs about 3,000 staff (of whom, 60% are Academic
Staff, 11% Administrative Staff and 29% Support staff). See illustration on

4.  In 2009, the university adopted a system that saw to the merging of former
faculties into colleges. They include; College of Agricultural and
Environmental Sciences (CAES); College of Business and Management
Sciences (COBAMS); College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology
(CEDAT); College of Health Sciences; College of Humanities and Social
Sciences (CHUSS); and College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and
Biosecurity (COVAB).
 The school of Law which was a department of social Sciences broke off to
become an independent entity. All these colleges are shown in the video.

elections th at determine the students’ leaders annually.
 A number of prominent politicians in Uganda have gone through the
political circles at the Ivory Tower.
