POSTURE
The position of body and the arrangement of body is
called posture.
The position in which a person stands and sits. Proper
posture is important to avoid back pain.
Posture is designed the way you hold your body when you
are sitting, standing or lying down.
Types of Posture
There are two types of posture:
1. Inactive posture
2. Active posture
 Static posture
 Dynamic Posture
Inactive Posture
 Attitude adopting for resting or sleeping.
 All essential muscular activities reduces to minimum.
 Used for training general relaxation.
Active Posture
 Integrated activity or action of many muscles is
required to maintain active posture.
 It may be either static or dynamic.
Static posture:
The body and its segments are aligned and
maintained in certain position.
(e.g Standing, lying and sitting).
Dynamic Posture
In dynamic posture the body and its segments are
constantly modified and adjusted to meet the
changing circumstances which arises as the result of
movement.
(e.g walking, running, jumping, throwing and lifting).
Patterns of Posture
Good/correct Posture:
Good posture involve keeping each part of our
body in alignment with its neighboring parts.
When we standing our posture is correct. If we
draw a straight line from our ear down through
shoulder, hip and knee.
When our posture is good each part of our body is
balanced and supported.
Development of good posture
 Develops quiet naturally.
 Provide essential mechanism for its maintenance.
 Adjustment are intact and healthy.
Factor responsible for good posture:
 Stable psychological background.
 Good hygienic condition.
Benefits of Good Posture
1. Good posture allow our muscles to work properly.
2. Decrease abnormal wear on joints.
3. It prevents back and muscle pain.
4. It contributes to an attractive appearance.
5. Good appearance.
6. Helps in developing physical fitness.

8. Good posture keeps good circulatory, respiratory and

Poor/faulty Posture
When our body parts are not in alignment this
position is called poor posture.
Carrying heavy objects on one side of body and
sitting without proper lower back support causes a
large curve in the lower back.
Effects of poor Posture
1. Bad posture can cause permanent change in spine.
2. It effects on muscles and joints.
3. These abnormalities can lead to back and neck
pain.
4. Headache and fatigue will be a major problem.
How can you feel to have a bad posture?
The mirror test is the good way to knowing about
posture of a full size.
Stand in front of a full size mirror and check to see
if just:
1. Your shoulder are level.
2. Your head is straight.
3. The space between your arms and side seems
equal.

6. Your ankles are straight.
If any of theses indicates are fail. It is
necessary to correct your posture as soon as
possible.
