INTRODUCTION
 The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks.
 Consists of millions of private,public,acadamic,business and government
networks.
 Carries an extensive range of information resources and services.
 Users can share resources and communicate with each other.
 Also called Distributed System.
 Uses Standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP).
 Electronic , wireless and optical networking technologies.

HISTORY
1. The history of the Internet begins with the development of electronic computers in the 1950s. Initial
concepts of packet networking,originated in several computer science laboratories in the United
States, Great Britain, and France.
2. Development of Victorian Internet.
3. 1968 - DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) contracts with BBN (Bolt,
Beranek & Newman) to create ARPAnet.
4. ARPANET was the 1st WAN and had only four sites in 1969.
5. 1970 - First five nodes: UCLA
