Pre-primary education Pre-primary education is optional for children from age of till they enter compulsory education and is provided both in state-run and private nursery schools Compulsory Education Education is compulsory from 6 to 15 years of age. Pupils who have reached the limit age of compulsory education and have not successfully completed the 9 th grade may continue their education in different modalities of youngters and adults education. Teaching in the first cycle is global and aims to develop basic competencies to this level of education. Pupils are taught by one generalist teacher, being usually supported by other teachers in specialized areas. Teaching in the second cycle and third cycle are organized into subjects and multi-disciplinary areas. Its main objectives are to develop pupils’ knowledged and competencies required to enter active life or further education. Students are taught by subject specialist teachers. Upper-secondary education To enter upper-secondary education, students must have successfully completed 9 years of compulsory education. Upper-secondary education is structured according to different paths either for further study or to enter in working life as we say ‘’ different bridges from school to professions’’. The upper-secondary education curriculum last for 3 academic years and comprises: Scientific –humanistic courses Vocational courses Specialized artistic courses Technological courses In order to conclude any secondary course, students have to be submitted to an internal assessment. Post-secondary education Specialized technological courses provide post-secondary, non-higher education and among other objectives aim at promoting a training path that combine qualification and professional skills and competences with the possibility of proceeding higher education.
