Are social and emotional learning programs effective tools to improve student...Fundació Jaume Bofill
In the education sector, there is now the conviction that, alongside the “classic” cognitive skills related to curriculum areas such as mathematics and language, there are other vital skills which are of great importance for the personal development and social opportunities of children and youth in the 21st century: namely, on the one hand, the so-called social and emotional skills, and on the other, metacognitive and regulation skills.
Several definitions have been given for both these skills. For example, aspects of awareness and self-management, social awareness and interpersonal skills, or the ability to make responsible decisions would come under the category of social and emotional skills. Regarding metacognitive skills and self-regulation, it is customary to refer to learning to learn strategies and motivational elements, autonomy, planning and critical thinking.
The principles are organized into these areas of psychological functioning:. Cognition and learning; Motivation; Social and emotional dimensions;. Context and learning; .& Assessment.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

25. Significant Learning
Social learning theories and Cognitive
the main idea of cognitivism is the mind is an information processor and learners process information by activating prior knowledge, or schema,
in order to make connections for new learning. Cognitivism is essentially how we absorb information, solve problems, and ultimately learn.
Constructivism Learning Theory
the key to a successful constructivist approach to teaching is an interactive relationship between the learner, the task, and the teacher who will
largely act as a facilitator of learning without depriving the students of experiencing learning and discovering knowledge on their own.
Education works best when it concentrates on thinking and understanding, rather than on rote memorization. Constructivism concentrates on
learning how to think and understand
Behaviorism and Connectionism
It’s crucial to keep in mind that behaviorism will be applied to beginner learners’ learning while they study fact-based knowledge. According to
the behaviorist learning theory, all behaviors are learned through conditioning processes. Behaviorists defined learning as an observable change
in behavior All behaviors are learned through interaction with the environment through a process called conditioning. Thus, behavior is amply a
response to environmental stimuli
Philippine Professional Standards for Teacher and Career Stage of Filipino Professional Teachers
To sum up the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) are important in the teaching-learning process. It captures the quality
requirements for teachers in K-12 programs and focuses on the skills and strategies that facilitate the teaching and learning process. The
Philippine Professional Standard for Teaching is a public declaration of what teachers must know, value and be able to do intheir profession The
Philippine professional standards for teachers define the seven domains of teaching practices, emphasizing the ability of teachers to assist
students of various abilities and backgrounds in a learner-centered learning environment There are four career with as well Beginning.

26. Significant Learning
Theories of intelligence
Theories of intelligence range from having one general intelligence (g), to certain primary mental abilities, and to multiple category-specific
intelligences. Following the creation of the Binet-Simon scale in the early 1900s, intelligence tests, now referred to as intelligence quotient (IQ)
tests, are the most widely-known and used measure for determining an individual’s intelligence.
Dual Coding Theory
Dual coding suggests that human cognition is divided into two processing systems: visual and verbal. The visual system deals with graphical
information processing and the verbal system deals with linguistic processing. These two systems are separate and are activated by different
information.
Multi-Store Model of Memory
Multi-Store Memory Model. It explains that there are three unitary memory stores which are sensory, long term and short- term memory which
information is transferred between these stores in a linear sequence also the memory stores, each store is unitary structure and has its own
characteristics on encoding. Capacity, and duration. Also, we also learned the strength and weakness of it that help us to become more aware
and knowledgeable enough in this topic.
Lateralization of brain function
In this discussion We used to believe that the left and right sides of the brain worked equally well, but we now understand that this is not the
case. The left and right sides of the brain function differently in terms of information processing and controlling behavioral patterns, from the
tiny brains of insects to the variously sized brains of vertebrates, including humans.
27. Significant Learning
Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve
Ebbinghaus forgetting curve describes the decrease in ability of the bram to retain memory over time. The theory is that humans start losing
the memory of learned knowledge over time, in a matter of days or weeks, unless the learned knowledge is consciously reviewed time and
again.
Spaced retrieval (SR)
an evidence-based memory technique that uses procedural memory to help people recall information over progressively longer intervals of
time. Spaced retrieval can help people with cognitive deficits learn to retam important information by cementing the information in the
procedural memory system. Possible treatment targets include the use of compensatory strategies for swallowing, safe transfer techniques, the
names of caregivers, and the use of memory aid Achievement of these goals can promote independence and reduce anxiety. As well as improve
interactions between the client and clinician or caregiver.
Metacognition.
Metacognition refers to “thinking about thinking”. It is the process of thinking about one’s own thinking and learning. It is your ability to control
your thinking processes through various strategies, such as planning. Monitoring, and evaluating. Metacognition is the knowledge you have of
your own cognitive processes. It is your ability to control your thinking processes through various strategies, such as organizing, monitoring, and
adapting.
28. Significant Learning
Motivation: Definition and Types
Motivation is the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. The two main types of motivation are frequently
described as being either extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic motivation arises from outside of the individual and often involves external rewards
such as trophies, money, social recognition, or praise. Intrinsic motivation is internal and arises from within the individual, such as doing a
complicated crossword puzzle purely for the gratification of solving a problem
Academic motivation
defined by a student’s desire (as reflected in approach, persistence, and level of interest) regarding academic subjects when the student’s
competence is judged against a standard of performance or excellence (McClelland, et al., 1953)
Academic motivation is a broad term incorporating many concepts studied by scholars to include self-efficacy, determination. Resilience, etc. All
of these terms incorporate characteristics related to motivation. While connections was drawn between academic motivation andsome of
these terms, for the purpose of this study, the definition of Academic Motivation will encompass these terms.
ARCS MODEL OF MOTIVATION
ARCS 13 an instructional model developed by John Keller, and focuses on motivation. It is important to motivate the learners, and ensure the
continuity of the motivation during the instruction. This model is particularly important for e-learning, since motivating learners in an online
course more difficult than in face-to-face courses. There are four components of ARCS model, and stands for Attention, Relevance, Confidence,
and Satisfaction.
29. Significant Learning
Emotional Responses of Learners
Emotions and learning are inseparable. Emotions can both enhance and interfere with learning depending on which ones are driving or
colouring the experience. Emotions can also be contagious, with strong positive or negative emotional states infecting others in the learning
environment.
Emotional intelligence (EI)
is the ability to perceive, interpret, demonstrate, control, evaluate, and use emotions to communicate with and relate to others effectively and
constructively. Some experts suggest that emotional intelligence is more important than IQ for success in life. An ability to identify and describe
what people. Are feeling. An awareness of personal strengths and limitations. Self-confidence and self-acceptance. The ability to let go of
mistakes. An ability to accept and embrace change. A strong sense of curiosity, particularly about other people. Feelings of empathy and
concern for others.
30. Significant Learning
Learning Styles
is widely used to describe how learners gather, sift through, interpret, organize, come to conclusions about, and “store” information for further
use. As spelled out in VARK (one of the most popular learning styles inventories), these styles are often categorized by sensory approaches:
visual, aural, verbal [reading/writing], and kinesthetic.
Students with Diverse Abilities and Backgrounds
It is important to remind ourselves why diversity and cultural awareness is 30 crucial in the classroom and the benefits it can have on students
now and in the long-term. Teaching diversity exposes students to various cultural and social groups, preparing students to become better
citizens in their communities.
Learners’ Participation
Class participation is an important aspect of student learning. When students speak up in class, they learn to express their ideas in a way that
others can understand. When they ask questions, they learn how to obtain information to enhance their own understanding of a topic. Class
participation also is a valuable learning tool for teachers. Through students’ questions, you learn what they don’t understand. And can adjust
your instruction accordingly.
As a teacher, you will have greater success spurring a student to speak up if you can figure out why he is reluctant to participate. Whatever the
reason for his reticence, your role is not to force him to speak: doing so will more likely make him clam up open up. Your role is to provide a
supportive, encouraging chimate that helps him feel more comfortable, more than confident, and less fearful of speaking up
