Course Reflection
Some points to highlight:
In Introduction to Translation Studies class, I have learnt about many topic, such as
basic concepts and term of translation, Roman Jakobson: three categories of translation,
word-for-word translation, sense-for-sense translation, two translators of the Bible: St.
Jerome and Martin Luther, Schleimacher’s type of translators, Matthew Arnold, semantic
voids, types of dictionary, lexicography, realia, typology of realia, translation strategy,
collocations, typology of collocations, lexical collocations, polysemi, Catford, kinds of
translation shift, Nida, language relativity, the Sapir-Worf hypothesis, and the last is space.
I think the situation of Translation class is very enjoyable and controlled. We know
when we are serious, and laugh. Even, in Translation class Mr. Riski delivered the material
by funny ways. It makes me easy to understand all of the materials. Also, I never fell
depressed or burden with the task that Mr. Riski gives to me. Honestly, it makes me more
diligent, so the result is those give many information and new knowledge for me. But,
sometimes I fell confused because the materials that had delivered in Translation class
contain many theories. I suggest that the material should be condensed.
I expect to get A score, because I always attend to translation class, do all of the task,
and the best thing that I get from attending translation class is I get many new knowledge.
That is way I never missed the class. If I missed the class once, I will lose one important
thing I don’t know before. Honestly, I really enjoy attend to translation class and respect with
translation study.
