Habitat on the hill
Qingdao, Shandong province, China
Status: under construction
My task: project leader
GAD architecture
The project is located on a quiet hill 30 km east from busy city of Qingdao surrounded
by Laoshan mountains. The client- a couple with interest in ecological lifestyle asked for
a concept of half private/ half public space. They required a summer house for them-
selves with couple of guesthouses around. Moreover they asked for a small hostel (a
party house), tea house, space for orchards, vegetables plantations, sport fields etc...
All of the buildings are adjusted to the slope therefore create an extension of thehill,
additionally all of them face the south and provide a view of the distant sea.
5. The building on top of the hill might be used
either as a private house or a small guest house.
The whole groundfloor is a leisure area with a
wide glass facade allowing the view of the
complex and the mountains. The 3rd floor is
accessible directly from the hill resulting in a big
terrace connected with a garden on the slope.
The 2nd floor might serve as a separated
provate apartment or guest rooms. The middle
part is a representative wooden staircase
connecting 3 storeys.

9. Master Diploma Project
Centre Of The East
Wroclaw, Poland
The aesthetic of Chinese cities is the one typical of places that experienced a
rapid capital inflow. The most desirable kind of architecture is the one that reflects
wealth of a client. It must be splendorous, shiny, preferably monumental and refer
either to traditional Chinese architecture or broadly- understood "European archi-
tecture" as Europe equals "high culture" in China.
In a collective imaginary of Chinese society western architecture is a hybrid of
different styles. A singular building is a set of elements ranging from these copied
from ancient Rome to neoclassicism, mixed up together and given in absurd,
childish forms with usage of tacky materials. In my diploma project and thesis I
wanted to evaluate this phenomenon. Just as in China the collective imaginary of
the West is simplified and deformed similarly in Europe the view of the East derives
rather from superificial image of Asia.
What I propose for my diploma project is sort of a play between what is IMAGI-
NARY and what is perceived as REAL. Is it possible to achieve something genuine
once it is uprooted? Is there such a big gap between what is fake and what is
authentic. When comes the moment that fake becomes genuine?
I designed a multifunctional complex: Center of the East however fulfilling the
western imaginary of the Eastern world. The complex is located in the city of Wro-
claw (Poland), surrounded by typical late XIX-century architecture.
11. - 12 -
Residential complex from the 60s.
“The unwanted heritage”
My goal was to combine the
imaginary of the East in our
collective cousciousness
together with architecture
that would be a respond to
local needs and expecta-
tions. The external facade
(from the side of a main
street) corresponds with the
neighbourhood, meets
requirements of local urban
law and fits the typical
western facade character of
a street. The situation chang-
es in the internal part orga-
nized around the courtyard.
Here I wanted to achieve an
effect of a building- land-
scape (the East wing divided
into pavilions) recflected in
the opposite- western part of
the buildings and connected
by a garden- courtyard. The
effect I wanted to achieve
was a sort of a play between
the genuine, fake and the
dialectics of these two.

The development of the project
The idea of the project was to create a
mix- use complex: a new public space
in which people working and living in
the complex and local residents will
socialise. The groundfloor serves as a
commercial space, the skyscraper- an
office building and a tower on the
back of the complex is a residential
building (mixed social housing and
expensive apartments). The whole
complex is open to an inner open
space/ garden which serves both as a
public small park and an outdoor
space for the residents and office
employees. Moreover the office tower
creates a landmark on one of the main
streets going from the city centre
towards the scenic mountain park.

Tourist Center
Qingdao, Shandong province, China
my task: project leader
status: under construction
The tourist centre is a multifunctional complex situated on one of the beaches of
Qingdao and offers facilities like: beach bar, cafe, restaurant, hovercraft rental point,
hovercraft club, medical center, shops, tourist information and private bungalows for
rent. The project contributes both to the netizens as it creates an attractive and
unique meeting spot and to tourists coming from all over China to visit Qingdao with
its famous breweries and a beer festival.
The ground level of the complex (bar, restaurant) has a direct access to the beach
and is partly hidden in the hill so as to reduce the effect of a massive structure cover-
ing the view of the sea. The building is accessible both from the beach and from the
side of one of the main streets of the city. The structure is entirely made by prefabri-
cated containers in some part covered with wooden panels which easthetically refers
to naval character of the nearby ports.

Space of art
Bologna, Italy
student project
The aim of the project was to create a new
public space in the former industrial park. The
typology of the factory encouraged me to
create a plaza, a new center in the suburbian
former industrial district of Bologna.
A new space of culture is a cultural center
perfectly adjusted for short- term visitors and
those who prefer to stay longer (artists who
need apartments with workshop spaces,
children attending art camps, clients of art
hotel etc.). Public and private spaces are
thought to combine with each other in order
to provoke interactions of artists and visitors.
25. Diagrams show the simplistic
section through the main exhibi-
tion hall . The space is divided into
3 categories:
- public:
main hall and suspended bridge,
- private:
the suspended art hotel,
- public/ private:
workshops, office spaces.
The composition of 3 elements
create a nave- type space with
view axis connecting them which
allows all kind of visitors to inter-
act. The effect is intensified by the
glazed floor which lets the light
enter the exhibition hall and
creates a visual connection with
the art hotel and a vast terrace.

Social residential housing
Nyon, Switzerland
concept project
team member, C+C04 sturio
A project in Nyon is an eco- friendly complex of 6 residential buildings
situated on the hill at the edge of the forest. Each of the buildings is a
double- tower structure attached to a core- staircase. The buildings give
the impression of being tossed on the site in order to create an interesting
ladscape with lots of paths going up and down the slope and provide
them with southern exposure. Exept for residential functions the complex
offers a scout community building, cafe and shops.

“The unwanted heritage” implementation
Wroclaw, Poland
Bachelor dimploma project
"The unwanted heritage" is a residential, modernistic com-
plex in the centre of Wroclaw, Poland.
Bult in the 60s it is one of the most underrated and original
architectural implementations from that time in the city.
However nowadays the complex is empty, neglected and
demanding renovation. My project is an attempt to give this
place a second chance. The idea was to expedite the
communication for pedestrians as the main axis of the
complex overlaps with one of the busiest roads in the city
connecting a big university campus with one of the main
squares. There are two existing levels of walkways (on the 0
and 1st level) which are almost completely separated from
each other. Additionally there is a medium size square in the
middle of upper walkway originally surrounded by some
shops, now empty. I used part of this square to design a
3-storey structure which main functions are: connecting the
two levels of pedestrian roads, exhibition space, cafe, small
gallery of modernism in Poland and tourist info.
