Popular Culture Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of Popular Culture can be both intriguing and challenging.
Popular culture encompasses a vast and ever-evolving array of phenomena, ranging from music,
fashion, and film to social media trends and internet memes. The difficulty lies in navigating this
expansive landscape and selecting a specific angle or theme that not only captures the essence of
popular culture but also provides a fresh perspective for the reader.
One challenge is the sheer diversity of topics within popular culture. Deciding whether to delve
into the impact of social media on societal norms, explore the influence of popular music on
identity, or analyze the symbiotic relationship between celebrity culture and consumerism
requires careful consideration. Balancing breadth and depth is crucial, as attempting to cover too
much ground may result in a superficial analysis, while focusing too narrowly may limit the
essay's relevance and appeal.
Moreover, staying current is a perpetual challenge when tackling popular culture. Trends and
phenomena shift rapidly, and what is considered "popular" can transform in the blink of an eye.
This dynamic nature demands not only a keen understanding of current cultural dynamics but
also an ability to contextualize these trends within a broader historical and sociocultural
framework.
Researching such a topic can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. The wealth of information
available, coupled with the need to distinguish between significant trends and fleeting fads,
requires a discerning eye. Credible sources and up-to-date references are essential to provide a
solid foundation for the essay's arguments.
The key to a successful essay on popular culture lies in striking a balance between analysis and
engagement. It's not just about presenting facts and trends but also about interpreting their
significance and implications. Additionally, the essay should be accessible to a wide audience, as
popular culture inherently appeals to diverse demographics.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on popular culture may pose challenges, the process is
ultimately rewarding. It allows the writer to explore the nuances of contemporary society,
analyze cultural phenomena, and contribute to ongoing conversations about the ever-evolving
landscape of popular culture.

Rituals That Help Society Cope With Death Essay
Rituals that Help Society Cope with Death
Throughout time, people have used various mechanisms to help with the process of
bereavement. These processes are defined as death rituals , and different cultures,
societies and religions have their own specific way of experiencing these death
rituals. In ways that are similar or different from one another, death rituals help with
the process of coping with the loss of a dear family member, a beloved member of a
religious organization, or a recognized member of society. Death rituals are practiced
by every culture and religion, and the main focus of these procedures is to help
family members relieve emotional pain caused by the tragic, unexpected or expected
loss of a loved one.
One of the main purposes of this paper is to define death rituals and why it is so
important for people to perform them. It is also important to understand that not
mater the differences in background, religion, social status or heath, everyone is
prone to participating in the rituals. According to Reeve, (2011) the definition of
death related rituals are a ceremony, directly involving at least one person and the
symbols of the loss and, usually, directly and indirectly involving others. The ritual
involves heightened meaning and emotion and is often experienced as spiritual. It is
focused around a specific situation or event and involves out of the ordinary activities.
As part of this definition of death ritual, it is important to understand that every

Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy Essay
Cervical spondylotic myelopathy is the common cause of acquired spastic paresis
in adults. The patient may present with the subtle findings in their gait or balance
that may have been present over years or with quadriparesis that developed over
the time of a few hours. The most unique feature may be the condition with its
subtle and varied presentation, so that its diagnosis requires a high index of
suspicion. Furthermore, they usually present with neck stiffness because of the
presence of advanced form of spondylosis. Patients may also experience brachialgia
which is stabbing pain in preaxial or postaxial border of the arms, forearm, wrist and
finger as well.
The clinical features alters, depending on the anatomic portion of the cord which is
mainly involved. The patients most typically present with insidious onset of
clumsiness or slowness in the hands and lower extremity. They may also complain

followed by C4 5, C3 4 and C6 7 levels. The C6 7 disc level accounts for 5% of
patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy. This discrepancy in frequency can be
explained by the fact that cervical enlargement of the spinal cord is located at C4 5
and C5 6 disc levels. Retrolisthesis of cervical spine seen on extension, which is a
principal component of dynamic stenosis, occationally occurs at C6 7 disc because
of its anterior tilt. furthermore there is highest loading of C5 6 and C4 5 levels by

King Henry Viii Essay
King Henry VIII Henry VIII (born 1491, ruled 1509 1547). The second son of
Henry VII and Elizabeth of York was one of England s strongest and least popular
monarchs. He was born at Greenwich on June 28, 1491. The first English ruler to
be educated under the influence of the Renaissance, he was a gifted scholar,
linguist, composer, and musician. As a youth he was gay and handsome, skilled in
all manner of athletic games, but in later life he became coarse and fat. When his
elder brother, Arthur, died (1502), he became heir apparent. He succeeded his father
on the throne in 1509, and soon thereafter he married Arthur s young widow,
Catherine of Aragon. During the first 20 years of his reign he left the shaping of

In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the
monks, but the Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although
Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused to allow any changes to
be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had opposed the teachings of
Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title Defender
of the Faith a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from
Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the
government of Rome and the Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was
married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, who became Elizabeth I.
Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later he married a
third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having given
birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German
princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very
beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly
divorced this wife and beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the minister who had arranged
the marriage. Henry s fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for
misconduct. In 1543 he married his sixth wife, the tactful and pious Catherine Parr.
Catherine, who survived Henry, lived to marry her fourth husband. During Henry s

History Of The Sarbanes-Oxley Act
Corporate America with Sarbanes Oxley Act
Many benefits came out of the creation of Sarbanes Oxley in 2002, one being less
fraud occurring within companies. Companies like Enron were a main reason for the
creation of the Act. Enron was reporting huge numbers in profits, but on the flip side
the company was going further and further into debt. Between 1996 and 2000, Enron
reported an increase in sales from $13.3 billion to $100.8 billion. (Ackman, D. (2002,
January 15) .What Enron did was covering up the losses they had with putting them
up profits. This caused major fraud to be committed within the company. To report a
large sum in profits should be cause for some questions to be asked. But before

...the law has reshaped attitudes toward corporate governance (Peregrine.M. 2012,
July 25). This was said ten years after Sarbanes Oxley was first enforced into
Corporate America. The Act changed everything we know to this day about the
regulations within Corporate America. Some still try and say that the Act has
done nothing and other differ and say it was a success and still is. Shareholders
now have more trust within companies and the ethical behavior a company shows
(Peregrine.M. 2012, July 25). Without the creation of Sarbanes Oxley can it be
said that shareholders with the company would still feel the same? Sarbanes Oxley
seized the center of corporate direction from the corner office and returned it to the
boardroom, where it belonged. Moreover, the law encouraged the identification of
best practices to guide boardroom conduct. It has helped to shape the focus of
state courts and regulators on the proper application of other fiduciary duty laws. It
has raised the public consciousness of corporate governance (Peregrine.M. 2012,
July 25). All this is saying is that companies are improving operations as to how
decisions are being made. This is for the better because it calls for some sort of
accountably for major decisions. Also shareholders can feel a since of trust within the

Taken By Pierre Morel
The movie Taken, directed by Pierre Morel, illustrates how young girls are often
targeted and fall victim to sex trafficking. Kim, a seventeen year old female, goes
to Paris with her friend Amanda with the intention of spending a nice vacation
together (Besson, 2009). Despite the fact that Kim s father, Bryan, does not feel
comfortable with the idea of the girls vacation, Kim disregards his concerns and
proceeds to go anyway. Unfortunately, on the first day of the vacation, Kim and
Amanda are kidnapped by a group of Albanian sex traffickers. Kim s father, a
retired CIA agent, quickly finds a way to rescue his daughter by using his
professional skills. In the process of trying to find Kim, the retired CIA agent is
also faced with the shocking realities of the sex trafficking market. This movie
illustrates how young girls are especially vulnerable to kidnapping and sex
trafficking and how important a parent or loved one s resilience is to help these
victims.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even after learning his daughter had been kidnapped by Albanian sex traffickers,
Bryan never ceased in his pursuit to find his daughter. Bryan portrays a father who
will do whatever it takes to protect and keep his only daughter safe. As soon as Kim
notified him about her friend Amanda being taken and that there was a great
possibility that the same thing would happen to her, Bryan immediately stepped
into action. He became proactive by covering any loose ends, asking her
questions, and recording previous phone conversations with the traffickers. This
was a key strategy he used to pick up any clues as to where Kim was to ensure her
safety. Unlike Bryan, Kim s mother, Lenore, was less proactive and vulnerable. She
did not show resilience after being told that her daughter was taken. Instead, she
cried and relied on Bryan to find Kim and bring her
Alexander Hamilton Was The First U.s. Secretary Of The...
Alexander Hamilton was the first U.S. secretary of the Treasury. He was involved
in developing the Federalists, the nation s first political party. He was born on Jan.
11, 1755 on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies. Hamilton was the
illegitimate son of a Scottish merchant named James Hamilton, and the daughter of
a French Huguenot physician, Rachel Fawcett Lavien. Hamilton began working
when he was 12 years old as a clerk in a trading firm located in St. Croix. His father
had business failures which resulted in a bankruptcy and his mother had passed
away. When he was 15 years old he was left in charge of the business. He left this
job in 1772 to attend school at the encouragement of his employers. With the help of
his employers he went to school at an academy in New Jersey, and after that he
enrolled in King s College in New York City. He left college without graduating in
1776.
The American Revolution of 1776 offered Hamilton the opportunity to become
captain of a company of artillery. He became a lieutenant colonel in the Continental
Army and an aide de camp to George Washington, a commanding general. Hamilton
made no military decisions, but he was sent on important military missions and he
drafted letters to Army officers, Congress and the states. He also drafted reports on
reorganizing and reforming the army. Hamilton still found time to read and to
express his ideas about the economic policy in newspaper articles and he wrote
letters to public figures of

The Giver Personal Response Essay
Can you imagine not having any emotions or not being able to express your feelings
to one another? In Lois Lowry s book, The Giver, Jonas and his utopian community
don t have any memories or emotions. When Jonas was chosen to be the receiver, at
the ceremony of twelves, he receives all the memories that none of the community
will understand. The Giver transfers memories to Jonas like color, love, and pain.
Throughout receiving memories, Jonas starts to question the people that don t have
these things, and this is where the theme Life without emotions is not a life worth
living comes into play. Throughout the this novel, the most common topic is being

After Jonas receives a memory of Christmas and love, he figured that his parents
would love him just like in the memory. Another line from the novel is, Do you
love me? ... Then father gave a little chuckle. Jonas. You, of all people. Precision of
language, please! ... Do you understand why it is inappropriate to use a word like
love ? ( ) Mother asked. Jonas was in awe because he would ve expected a
meaningful answer. This line matters because if the community did have emotion
they would answer something like, Yes! Of course I do. I love you to the moon and
back. In this utopian community, there are birth mothers instead of traditional parents
who fall in love. If this idealistic community had emotion, there would be no
birthmothers. Since Jonas has feelings, he thought that love was the best feeling in
the whole world. Throughout the this whole novel it was clear that the community
had no feelings or emotion. So, the theme Life without emotions is not a life worth
living really shines through The Giver. At the end of the novel, the Giver and Jonas
made plan. The plan was that Jonas had to leave the community and everyone will
receive all the memories that Jonas has. What do think everyone would do if
suddenly the people in your community started to have no emotions? Would they be
lost like Jonas s community if they didn t have the
Las Vegas Is A City Of The Strip Essay
Las Vegas is a city that is widely known for its casinos, gambling, alcohol, wild
parties, and live entertainment (which usually just entails strippers). It is known
as being most adult s fantasy playground come alive, and because of this it has
been dubbed as Sin City. Because of its nickname, and the way it is constantly
being portrayed in the media it s easy to see why non locals can find it difficult to
imagine there being any type of ordinary life occurring outside of the infamous
Strip that isn t at all entwined with the glitz and glamour that one correlates with
Las Vegas. Sin City locals, on the other hand, can most definitely vouch for there
being life outside of the Strip, but also for there being no life outside of it. So
much emphasis and attention is placed on the Strip that many locals feel that their
life outside of it isn t as commemorative, and because of this they see no point in
taking the time to enjoy their life here in Sin City. In order for locals to enjoy their
life in Vegas ad be able to get the most out of it they must first accept that the fact
that they live in a tourist town, set aside their own insider views for a moment to
be able to look at the city through the eyes of a tourist, and learn to appreciate the
life that there is outside and inside of the Strip. The first step that needs to be taken
to appreciate your life here in Las Vegas is to accept that fact that you live in Las
Vegas. By this I mean that you have to accept the fact that
Kant s The Metaphysic Of Morals
A very influential philosopher Immanuel Kant says, To be kind where one can is
duty (Pure Practical Reason in the Moral Law, 127). Kant makes the argument that
without good intentions, even if the action itself is morally good, the action has
no intrinsic worth. Although he makes a very strong argument, this isn t accepted
by everyone. In the excerpt Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, Kant
presents a profound argument that how right an action is, is determined by
intention of the principle that is being acted on. He believes that the outcome of
an action is irrelevant because it is out of our control, it doesn t matter if what we
genuinely intended is accomplished. But, we can control the will behind the action.
He explains, The good will is not good because of what it effects or accomplishes
or because of its adequacy to achieve some proposed end; it is good only because
of its willing, i.e. it is good of itself (124). Kant uses an example of two shopkeepers
that treat their customers in the same way, but are in fact motivated very differently.
The first shopkeeper gives the correct change to the customer, but for selfish
purposes. He is scared of getting caught for trying to cheat an inexperienced customer
like a child. Plus, obtaining a good reputation of being an honest shopkeeper
improves his business. The second shopkeeper gives honest change to the customer
simply because he is an honest man, and it is morally right. Even though both
shopkeepers did the
Summary Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell uses a particular structure in his book Outliers; each chapter
consists of a backstory, an example, an analysis, and other stories. In Chapter 2 The
10,000 Hour Rule, he opens with the backstory of Bill Joy, a computer programmer
who co founded Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley. Starting off with a successful
person is one of Gladwell s tactics; he draws you in with a poster child for success.
Also, throughout the books he uses engaging pop culture references: the university s
enormous mainframe computers stood in the middle of a vast white room, looking,
as one faculty member remembers, like one of the last scenes in the movie 2001: A
Space Odyssey. (34) This approach helps tremendously with visualization, while
simultaneously creating a correlation to the book and author. The second section,
Gladwell answers the question of innate talent; making it clear that circumstances
aren t everything. There are many factors that go into success; examining talent and
preparation, but later explaining... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of providing a myriad of examples is to show evidence that this
happens with many people, not just one isolated incident. This section is dedicated
to the opportunities contributing to his successful business; Gates started to
develop a passion for programing in the 8th grade. In the 60 s computers were rare,
so the chances of learning code at a young age was very limited. This gives him the
upper hand, which is discussed in section six bringing all the examples together.
Concluding the chapter, he analyzes everything that was said and brings up birth
years of some of the most accomplished people in the world. Addressing how some
have the upper hand, when it comes to time. Retouching on the previous chapter

The Great Repeal Bill
The first issue is the UK Government s ability to convert all EU law to UK law as
well as Scotland s power to block the Great Repeal Bill. The problem which exists
with the proposed bill is that some parts of EU law relate directly to issues which
have been devolved to Scotland, for example; agriculture, fishing in Scottish waters
and environmental law. If the Bill were to convert EU laws on devolved matters into
UK law then the UK Government would be legislating on areas out with its reserved
functions. According to the Sewel convention the legislative consent of the Scottish
Parliamentis required when Westminster legislation concerns devolved matters. As a

Firstly, it is essential to identify the relevant provision contained within the 2016
Scotland Act which states that The Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government
are a permanent part of the United Kingdom s constitutional arrangements which can
only be abolished if this is what is decided by the Scottish people in a Referendum.
Therefore, legal constitutionalists would argue that the Scotland Act is entrenched
within the UK Constitution and cannot be abolished. Furthermore, political
constitutionalists would argue that that there are large political constraints which
prohibit the repeal of the Scotland Act, and therefore, the abolishment of the Scottish
Parliament. The principles of accountability and democracy would serve to prevent
Westminster deciding to repeal the Act. Since its establishment in 1999, it is clear
that the Scottish Parliament is an institution which is desired by the people of
Scotland. Therefore, abolishment is possible but unlikely. However, legally speaking,
the UK Parliament is completely sovereign. The basic principle of the British
Constitution has been summed up by AV Dicey, who stated that parliament
Why Did France Really Need Three Revolutions Of The

The French have an illustrious history of Revolutions. Ever since the revolution of
1789, it seems as if the French cannot maintain one system of government. They are
often caught between the interests of the people and liberalism, while fighting
against the self interests of the elite. Often the revolutions would run countercurrent
to the previous one. The revolutions of the 20th century were no different. Karl Marx
had said that each revolution is merely a re imagining of the original revolution of
1789. That does not seem to be evident in the revolutions of the 20th century. Why
did the French ultimately need three revolutions merely to return to their liberalist
ideology? The answer seems to stem from French political reality after the... Show

This had been burgeoning since the Popular Front of the 1930 s to the treatment of

University students scared for their future. The shift of power to the radical left
was beginning again. Idealistic fervor had returned to counter the morbid realism of
Vichy with slogans such as Be realistic, demand the impossible. Communists and
union leaders allied against the strike, unprepared to give into their demands of
higher wages. De Gaulle even considered using the military to put down the

like Petain, had outlived his usefulness. His philosophy, would at least survive, as
the French desired Gaullism without De Gaulle. Then again, Petain s rhetoric of ant

of the National Front. The movement of 1968 would ultimately not achieve

Cultural Competence in Healthcare

Introduction The members of the largest ethnic group being granted legal permanent
residence in the United States are from Mexico. According the 2010 census 16.3% of
the population of the United States is Latino (Spector, 2013). The Latino population
will increase to 30 % of the total population by the year 2050 based on current
projections (Juckett, 2013). There are several barriers to health care faced by many in
the Latino population. They include: language barriers, lack of health insurance,
mistrust, not have a legal status and a different culture of health care (Juckett, 2013,
p. 48). Juckett also points out that most medications that require a prescription in the
US are obtained without prescriptions in immigrants home countries (2013).
It is estimated that 20% of the U. S. population use herbal medicine. The prevalence
of herbal medicine use by some ethnic and cultural groups in the US may be even
higher; one meta analysis found that 4% to 40% (mean 30%) of Latinos living in
the United States regularly used herbal medicine (Kiefer, Tellez Giron, Bradbury,
2014, p. 64). The growing number of Latinos in the US and their reliance on herbal
remedies is something that healthcare providers are going to have to address to be
able to provide culturally competent care to this population.

Causes of The Stono Revolt
The morning of Sunday, September 9, 1939 went down in history because of the
events that began. It was a day that marked the beginning of the largest slave
rebellion in British North America. What was the name of this rebellion? It was
the Stono Revolt. According to (......) twenty slaves (the exact number is
unknown) attacked the Hutchenson s near the Stono River, beheaded the
storekeeper, seized weapons, and started matching towards Florida. This owes to
the reality that freedom had been promised by Spanish at St. Augustine. More
slaves joined the rebellion and killed almost twenty five whites before a British
militia quashed the rebellion. Historians like Hofer (2010) and Rodriguez (2007)
have different explanations for the causes of this revolt. This paper analyzes two
reasons for the Stono revolt by explaining how they are different, evaluating,
describing, and interpreting the reasons. To begin with, Hofer (2010) argues that
the main reason for the Stono was a promise from the Spanish King. The author
asserts that the King of Spain had promised freedom and protection to all fugitive
slaves. Consequently, slaves belonging to Captain Davies escaped to Augustine
where they were received as promised. Other slaves belonging to Captain
Macpherson ran away with an advantage of having knowledge of the terrain to
Augustine. They too, were received with honor and praise. In fact, Shuler (2009)
asserts that one of them was given a velvet coat. The news of warm reception of
slaves (at

Apart from using the matte shot technique, the smart using of frames is the other
one. Melies set a big frame which can contain different background images. Gondry
used windows on walls, car window and even hand(Fig 4) to contain the object for
the theme and background. From figure2 and figure3, it is obvious to see the
similarity, in camera technique using between two films.

Inflation
Inflation, Types, Causes, Impacts and Remedies
Inflation
In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services
in an economy over a period of time. When the general price level rises, each unit of
currency buys fewer goods and services. Consequently, inflation also reflects an
erosion in the purchasing power of money a loss of real value in the internal medium
of exchange and unit of account in the economy A chief measure of price inflationis
the inflation rate, the annualized percentage change in a general price index
(normally the Consumer Price Index) over time.
Types of Inflation 1. Moderate inflation

Business Planning and Investment
More generally, inflation can disrupt business planning. Budgeting becomes difficult
because of the uncertainty created by rising inflation of both prices and costs and this
may reduce planned capital investment spending. Lower investment then has a
detrimental effect on the economy s long run growth potential
Competitiveness and Unemployment
Inflation is a possible cause of higher unemployment in the medium term if one
country experiences a much higher rate of inflation than another, leading to a loss of
international competitiveness and a subsequent worsening of their trade
performance. If inflation in the UK is persistently above our major trading partners,
British exporters may struggle to maintain their share in overseas markets and import
penetration into the UK domestic market will grow. Both trends could lead to a
worsening balance of payments. The UK government believes that monetary stability
(i.e. low inflation) is a precondition for sustained economic expansion. As the chart
below demonstrates, the UK has made progress in reducing the volatility of its
inflation rate in the last decade. The era of high and volatile inflation may have come
to an end.
Arbitrary Re Distributions of Income
Inflation tends to hurt those employees in jobs with poor bargaining positions in the
labour market for example people in low paid jobs with little or no trade union

The Baroque Style Within Gospel Music Essay
The Baroque Style within Gospel Music Growing up in a Christian family, a
minister as a father, a musician as a mother, Gospel music was the prominent source
of musical entertainment in my childhood. As my peers listened to and could tell
you about current hip hop, rap, and r b music, I could do the same with Gospel. It
wasn t until high school, when I started my pursuit of music, that I started learning
the classical style and developing an appreciation for it. However, in my endeavor, I
came to the realization that most gospel music, mainly around 1990s 2000s, were
similar in theory to some of the classical songs I was studying at the time. Whether it
be the structure of the chords, the chord progressions, the harmonies, the
counterpoint, there are undoubtedly a myriad of similar techniques within both
styles of music. As I progress in the field of music, I learn that the specific period of
classical music that would have the most similar traits as Gospel music would be the
Baroqueperiod. The Baroque period is estimated to encompass music from the span
of 1600 1750. Many of its known composers of the era include Bach, Handel,
Monteverdi, Purcell and many more. It was in the baroque period where music
finally found a key; where we stray away from the church modes and get a sense of
tonicization, in terms of chord progressions and structure. We start thinking of music
horizontally and vertically now, where before it was only vertically. In addition,
musicians start

What is the future value of $1,560 in 13 year assuming an interest rate of 9percent

For this problem, it simply needs to find the FV of a lump sum using the equation:
FV= PV (1+r) t
It is important to note that the compounding occurs semi annually. To account for
this, it will divide the interest rate by two (the number of compounding periods in a
year), and multiply the number of periods by two. Doing so, it may get:
FV= PV {[1+ (k/m)] nm} = $1560 {[1+ (0.09/2)] 13x2} =$4899.46

Bond prices are included market interest rate, coupon rate, and term to maturity.
(i) The market interest rate is a compound varies always. On the other hand, the
coupon for the bond remains fixing until maturity. Therefore, any change in market
interest rate does not affect the coupon, but it affects the price of the bond. When the
market interests go up, bonds go down and vice versa.
(ii) When the coupon rate is lower. The bond will have a higher price volatility
compared to a bond which has a higher coupon. This is primarily because when

There was enormous resistance from forces in the South throughout these years, these

had it been passed unchanged, would have abolished racial discrimination and

even questioned if the Fourteenth Amendment had any illegal or binding force in

Zora Identity
In Zora Neale Hurston s essay How It Feels To Be Colored Me , her racial identity
varies based on her location. Towards the beginning of her life when Zora was in
her own community she could be a lighthearted, carefree spirit. However, when she
was forced to leave her community, Zora s identity became linked to her race. In
this essay I will demonstrate how Zora s blackness is both a sanctuary and
completely worthless. In the all black community of Eatonville, Zora felt like
members of her town saw her for who she was. There were no racial barriers in the
community because of everyone s shared culture, and history. Growing up in her
small community, she came to love it and she felt a strong tie to her hometown.
She illustrates this by saying, But I was their Zora nevertheless. I belonged to
them, to the nearby hotels, to the county everybody s Zora (Hurston 42). Zora
argues that because everyone was of the same color, the community could see past
racial labels. A black Zora could not exist in Eatonville, and it was not an indicator
of who she was because describing Zora as black in Eatonville does not do her
identity justice. Zora could be Zora, because she felt no race, because she was so
comfortable in her skin she could be a part of a community of people. In
Eatonville, she did not see people because of racial labels, she had no knowledge
of the stereotypes associated with black people. Because of her ignorance, Zora
looked deep into people s character as a young girl. Zora could not understand why
the dynamic in her community changed when white people rode through her town.
In Eatonville, she often would disobey her elders by waving and greeting as white
visitors rode through her town. She says herself that During this period, white
people differed from colored to me only in that they rode through town and never
lived there (Hurston 42). She grew up black among black people, and because of
her sheltered childhood she remained ignorant to the idea that blacks were subjected
to poorer treatment than whites just because they were black. So as she grew up, she
lived with a carefree spirit that stayed with her throughout her adolescence. Zora
couldn t wrap her head around why when white people came

Once the processes are categorized, then they can be prioritized. This is where the
whole leadership team gets involved, to include the stakeholders. Then these
prioritized categories can be made into a hierarchical structure with substance and
value. This Pareto analysis chart is rather easy to produce in Microsoft Excel,
which is a good thing because I am fairly competent with the process using MS
Excel. We simply put in a table the consumption values during the determined period
of study and then turn it into a chart and you have a visual of the consumption
periods. We can then find the highest consumption periods and compare them to any
changes or patterns differences from the lower periods. Then these values can be re
charted in another analysis chart to visually compare the major causes of energy
consumption. In conclusion, the Pareto analysis will allow us to identify the major
energy consumption issues or the major energy conservation savings factors and
allow us to prioritize them in a hierarchical manner. Then the decision making
process can begin to work to reduce the overall costs and save energy at the same
time.

Antecedents Of Environmental Pollution
An environmental pollutant: Smog
Smog is fundamentally gotten from the converging of two words; smoke and
haze. Smog is likewise used to portray the sort of mist which has smoke or sediment
in it. Smog is a yellowish or blackish haze framed principally by a blend of poisons in
the climate which comprises of fine particles and ground level ozone. Smog which
happens principally on account of air contamination, can likewise be characterized as
a blend of different gasses with tidy and water vapor. Smog additionally alludes to
foggy air that makes breathing troublesome.
The environmental contaminations or gasses that shape smog are discharged
noticeable all around when powers are copied. Whenever daylight and its warmth
respond with these gasses and fine particles in the environment, smog is framed. It
is simply caused via air contamination. Ground level ozone and fine particles are
discharged noticeable all around because of complex photochemical responses
between unpredictable natural mixes (VOC), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen
oxides (NOx). These VOC, SO2 and NOx are called antecedents. The fundamental
wellsprings of these antecedents are toxins discharged straightforwardly into the air
by gas and diesel run vehicles, modern plants and exercises, and warming because of
human exercises.
Smog is regularly caused by overwhelming movement, high temperatures, daylight
and quiet winds. These are few of the variables behind expanding level of air
contamination in climate. Amid

Legalizing Marijuana Essay
Legalizing Marijuana
Drugs are a major influential force in our country today. The problem has gotten so
out of hand that many options are being considered to control it or even solve it.
Ending the drug war seems to be a bit impossible. The war on drugs seems to be
accomplishing a lot but this is not true. Different options need to be considered.
Legalization is an option that hasn t gotten a chance but should be given one.
Although many people feel that legalizing marijuana would increase the amount of
use, marijuana should be legalized because it will reduce the great amounts of money
spent on enforcement and it will increase our country s revenue. There are also many
benefits that can be uncovered to help people if legalization of ... Show more content

One can only imagine what this figure would be like today. Too much money is
wasted on a cause that seems to be no end to. In 1989, a Republican county
executive of Mercer County N.J. estimated that it would cost him as much as 1
billion dollars to build the jail space needed to house all the hard core drug users in
Trenton alone (Long 128). All of this money could be used on better things.
By lifting the ban on marijuana use and treating it like other drugs such as tobacco
and alcohol, the nation would gain immediate and long term benefits. This change
in the law would greatly improve the quality of life for many people. Victims of
glaucoma and those needing antinausea treatment, for example, would find
marijuana easily available. Also, the cloud of suspicion would disappear, and
doctors could get on with investigating marijuana s medical uses without fear of
controversy. In the essay, Drugs , Vidal states, Nevertheless many drugs are bad for
certain people to take and they should be told why in a sensible way (321 322). It
might become possible to discuss the dangers of marijuana use without getting caught
up in a policy debate..
Meanwhile, the black market would disappear overnight. Some arrangement would
be made to license the production of marijuana cigarettes. Thousands of dealers
would be put out of business, and a secret part of the economy would come
Montclair State University Application Essay
Montclair State University, home of the Red Hawks has always been a college that
has interested me. As a kid, I often would visit the beautiful campus to watch
baseball games at the Yogi Berra Stadium located inside. I have always been a fan of
schools with big campuses. The campus is not the only thing that caught my interest,
after doing some research I found out that Montclair State has a one of the best
business programs in the area. The best part is I only about fifth teen minutes away.
Transitioning from high schoolto collegewill not be an easy task, but I am confident
in my ability to make the change. Growing up I had a lot of responsibilities. Going to
schooland playing baseball, I had to learn how to schedule and organize my time at
a young age. In addition to that, I had a younger sister who I often had to take care
of whenever my parents left us alone. I remember getting my first job when I was
sixteen. I worked as part time custodian over the summer at an elementary school.
Now I am currently employed at Shop Rite and I am able to balance my academic

teams. I was able to adjust to the different coaches and their different playing
styles. Playing travel baseball helped me to overcome my fear of traveling away
from home. Competing in tournaments hosted in different states like New York,
North Carolina, and Virginia provided me the opportunity to experience what
college life would belike. I traveled to the competitions with the team and was
expected to be responsible for many of the tasks that my parents often took care of
for me; such as laundry and
Social Commentary On Domestic Violence
For this Social Commentary Paper, the prompt is to choose two songs from different
genres that are centered on the same social issue. After much thought, domestic
violence was chosen. According to the Department of Justice, domestic violence is
the abusive behavior from an individual within a relationship, resulting in physical
or emotional harm to their partner. This includes, but is not limited to, hitting,
shoving, name calling, or undermining an individual s sense of self worth. First,
Carrie Underwood s Blown Away (May 1, 2012), from the album of the same name,
is sad and dramatic with its deep meaningful lyrics (ITunes). In short, it is about a
young girl who lives with her abusive alcoholic father. Without going into much
detail, she hopes her father and the memories of him will vanish. Secondly, Green
Day s Pulling Teeth (Jan. 28, 1994), from the album titled Dookie, is about an abusive
relationship where the woman beats up the man. Although scared of the abuse, the
man continues to stay in the relationship as the woman says multiple times that she
loves him. Both songs mentioned above have a very deep relationship between the
music that is being played and the lyrics that are being sung. This connection will be
discussed in much more detail in Section D.
B.Issue Discussion
Domestic violence is a serious concern and should be addressed immediately. This
problem is far more common than we think as it affects thousands of people a day,
including children,
Opposition to Prescribed Burns Essay
Opposition to Prescribed Burns
Forest fires kill many animals and usually destroy a large amount of land.
Prescribed burns seem like they would be the best idea, but are they? Their claim
to fame is to clear out land in order to decrease the burning space for when an actual
forest fire occurs. Yet this may seem like a brilliant idea, but one must look at the
negative aspects of controlled burnings. People might have a change of heart when
they realize the damages and effects of such an interesting act. Keep in mind that not
only is your health involved but even such things as the inconvenience of dealing
with a smoky town. It is important to understand that prescribed burns cause severe
health problems especially to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like the firefighters in 911 (figure 1); many people would say that a firefighter
s health is very important. Life is a precious thing and before we sit around and let
controlled burnings take control, we should protect the lives of those who protect us.
Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1 (Firefighters at a 911 memorial)
Although health is a major issue, you must keep in mind that visibility is very
important, especially if you have to drive through the thick smoke on a major
highway. Loss of sight during a burn usually occurs during high peak exposures
(Reinhardt 35). It is hard for firefighters to concentrate on their work because the
smoke decreases their visibility so much (Reinhardt 34). Besides the danger of not
being able to see while driving and a firefighter not being able to see what he is
doing, it is also a negative to not be able to enjoy the beautiful nature around us
when we are outside. The smoke may not last long, but it is hard to go on with day
to day lives dealing with breathing let alone looking through the smoke each day.
Smoke could irritate eyes for a long period of time and might possibly lead to long
term damage (Reinhardt 34).
The last, but yet most important aspect one must look at is the fact that your long
term health could be affected by smoke damage from the burns. The top five
components of potential health hazards are: acrolein, benzene, carbon monoxide,
The Importance Of Land Conflict In The South China Sea
The South China Sea is the main time link between the Pacific and Indian oceans,
giving it enormous trade and military value (Rappler). There is a current conflict
over a territory occurring in the South China Sea. There are multiple countries
trying to militarize and attain the area. This is causing a lot of tension similar to
Alsace Lorraine and the Balkan region leading up to World War One. The
geographical resources that are in the sea make it very desirable. Land disputes
during World War One in the Balkans
and Alsace Lorraine, and those disputes that
are forming in the South China Sea could have been prevented with negotiation and
de militarization. Land disputes in the Balkans and Alsace Lorraine were a leading
cause to World War One. A big cause of European tension prior to World War 1 was
the continued instability and conflict in the Balkans. This land was a cluster of
nations including Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Bosnia (Alpha History).
The Balkans had few natural resources, making it less of an large economic prize
but more of a geographical prize. The Balkans were right in the middle of three key
empires: Ottoman Empire, Russia, and Austria Hungary. It had multiple water
sources and water ways which caused it to be strategically vital. This caused a lot of
European tension leading up to World War One. More tension caused by land was
between France and Germany called Alsace Lorraine, was a monumental piece of
land that created conflicts and

Soap (XML) vs REST (JSON) within the area of Web Services
Figure 1.
Introduction:
Web Services describe an area of computing which define the method of
communication used by machines to interact with each other over the internet. A web
service is a method for applications that are written in contrasting languages to be
able to transfer data between one another without any problems. Two kinds of Web
Services are SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (Representational
State Transfer).
SOAP characterizes a communication protocol for XML based message exchange.
SOAP utilizes transport protocols such as HTTP and SMTP. SOAP provides
simplified communication methods through firewalls and proxies. It is both language
and platform independent. SOAP uses SOAP messages in order to transmit messages.
The SOAP message is a standard XML document which contains the following
elements: An envelope element (required), a header
The World Bank Group s Partnership Strategy For India
The World Bank has provided large amounts of financial assistance to India for
economic development. The different areas it has impacted include: the development
of infrastructure such as electric power, transport, communication, irrigation projects,
and the steel industry. For a long period, India was the single largest borrower from
the World Bank. At present India is the third largest borrower of funds from the
World Bank (Mukherjee, 2015).
At current the World Bank and India are working towards a new five year plan for
the country. The World Bank Groups Partnership Strategy for India (2013 2017)
will help India lay the foundations for achieving faster, sustainable, and more
inclusive growth as outlined in the government s 12th five year plan. The World
Bank Group will support India with an integrated package of financing, advisory
services, and knowledge (India Overview, 2016).
A fundamental difference in this five year plan from the rest is that this plan
provides a new strategy in shifting support toward low income and special category
states, where many of India s poor and disadvantaged live. This project is also the
World Bank s first country strategy to set specific goals for reducing poverty and
increasing prosperity for the poorest people. This strategy lays out a development
plan that would allow India to improve its inclusiveness of the economic growth to
that achieved by its best performing states. In turn this change would cut poverty to

African American In Motion Pictures
How did African Americans enter film? When did they? African Americans had a
hard time entering film. Who are some successful black actors today in Hollywood?
According to the sources I ve read, American Americans had a very complex time in
the history in the American motion industry. In the early 20 s, things like the Civil
War were still being discussed. Society wanted African Americanto stay in their
place, so they were given roles such as criminals, servants, and other negative roles.
Society wanted to keep the social order. Most roles that were played by African
Americans were played in an all black casted film. In movies like this, Blacks were
given more positive and diverse roles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

princesses with different cultures and ethics. Mainly, we used to see more Caucasian
princesses . Now, we see Hawaiian, African American, and other ethics on animation

Not only do we see diverse of race on animation film, we hear the diversity. We hear

7 Habits Of Highly Effective People By Stephen R. Covey
In the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey he explains
how the world is entirely based on our own perception. In order to change a
situation, we must change ourselves, and in order to change ourselves we have to
change our perception. These days, individuals look for quick solutions. They see
successful people, companies, and organizations that have achieved success and
wonder how they can get a hold of their techniques. The problem is these shortcuts
that we all look for, hoping to save time and energy and still received the desired
result, isn t... The way we see the problem is the problem (pg. ) As individual we
have to allow ourselves to experience a change in how we think. Covey explains
how we must altar our attitude and behavior in order to achieve true change
through the seven habits. Habit 1: Principles of Personal Vision Throughout this
habit we are reminded what it means to be responsible for ourselves. We learn to
take initiative, choosing our attitude, and always doing the right thing even when
no one is looking. We know as individual that we can easily give up on a situation
or relationship if it is too hard or not going the way you want, but Covey reminds
us that we choose the script for our lives. Do not give up but use self awareness to
be proactive and take reasonability for our choices. What distinguishes us as humans
is our ability to examine our own character, to decide how to view ourselves and our
situations, and control
Charles Darwin Social Influence
One of the most influential thinkers in science, Charles Darwin was a man with an
immense devotion to pursuing the relationship between himself and the world around
him.
In his article on the legacy of Darwin, Burghardt (2009) praised not only Darwin s
genuine interest in culture, human psychology, and all aspects of natural history, but
also his behavioral observations and interpretations of the animals and peoples of the
areas he visited (p.103). His inclination to find reason through observational and
exploratory research cemented his contributions to the knowledge of human
development. Darwin s theories are still at the forefront of psychological research,
lecture, and debate, and are the basis for many different areas of study within ... Show

Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather,
compared instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of
similar species (p.207). He concluded that natural selection could play a role in the
gradual development of instincts, and theorized that variations of competing
behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon. In, The Organism and
its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of
instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel
animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s
approach to instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human
behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an
instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by
experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of
man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has
a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or
instinctive. The constant shift of environmental factors influences humans and
nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts. This comparative approach has
opened the doors to new ideas about behavior in humans
Who Is The Protagonist In The Book Kindred
The Book Kindred by Octavia Butler is about an African American Named Dana
who began to travel through time for no apparent reason. She travels in the past
time to save her Forerunner Rufus with the help of Kevin joining along with her
through this conflict. In these times slavery still existed by which Dana and Kevin
goes through obstacles of White slave owners trying to catch and kill Dana for

Kevin started to curse a lot and started to feel frustrated when he was alone. Kevin
then shakes his head and mutters Christ,,.If i m not home yet, maybe I don t have

he gets confused if he even had a home to start with. Therefore traveling to the past
life shows that your memory of the present life will start to fade away as you stay
in the past life longer. Also, in the beginning after they got back to the present time
Dana started to observe him when Kevin was alone as she shook her head, [she]
tried to put the comparison out of [her] mind. He sounded as though he was he is
looking for something, and after five years didn t know where to find it (Butler
190). It appears that what Kevin was looking for was his home that he could not
remember he had in the past since he didn t know where to find it . This is showing
Kevin is losing memory of his present as he is more attached to the past and turning
out he was trying to recognize his home and get familiar with it as he was trying to
find it but Ostensibly, he was still
Seeing the Liberation of the Peon by Diego Rivera Essay
Brianna Green Professor Tim Cruise Introduction to Art 15 April 2014 Seeing The
Liberation of Peon by Diego Rivera The Liberation of Peon, by artist Diego Rivera is
portrayed through a Fresco media with dimensions of 73 x 94 Вј . It was painted in
1931 and is on display in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Looking at this artwork
brings a mood of sadness. Five men, four horses, burning villages, and sandy hills
occupy the scene. The focal point of the painting appears to be a slave being cut
down and freed form a wooden post. The directions of the staring men s eyes all
point me to the direction of the slave being freed. Looking at this artwork I feel that

It is suggested through the use of curved lines and light. 4. Space Perspective is
demonstrated in many ways. This artwork takes up almost the whole canvas. The
horses on the edge look like they were maybe even squeezed in. All of the
characters in this artwork look to be congregated to the middle of the painting,
besides the villages in the distance. Linear perspective is used in the placement of
the villages in the background and in all the men and horses, which are grouped in
the middle of the screen. Looking at the features in the painting I notice the use of
overlapping and vertical placement, which both imply depth. The horses overlap
each other as well as the gentlemen and other elements of the painting. The brown
horse s head overlaps the black one hiding its mouth. The villages and hills in the
background appear to be very far away (diminishing size); they look smaller and
distant from the rest of the main aspects of the painting. 5. Time and Motion The
element of time is somewhat apparent in which the painting depicts events that
happened during the daytime because of the lighting and brightness used in the
painting. The red and black colors incorporated in the smoke and fire from the
villages implement a sense of time, because although there is smoke and fire the
buildings are still in solid form, not destroyed, symbolizing that the fire may not have
been burning for very long. When dealing with the element of motion I automatically
begin to think
Summary Of The Changing Face Of War By Van Creveld
Van Creveld has authored a number of major works, including Supplying War:
Logistics from Wallenstein to Patton, which established his reputation for meticulous
scholarship and perceptive insights. In Command in War, the author detailed the
evolving nature of command and remains a classic, along with Technology and War.
Like its predecessor, The Transformation of War is about that technological advances
that rarely conveys a significant advantage in war, and that dependence on technology
introduces more friction and vulnerability than it solves. This book is critical to
political students, whom are looking to advance in strategic studies.
In The Changing Face of War book, the author s purpose is clear and explicitly stated.

Popular Culture Essay.pdf

  • 1. Popular Culture Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of Popular Culture can be both intriguing and challenging. Popular culture encompasses a vast and ever-evolving array of phenomena, ranging from music, fashion, and film to social media trends and internet memes. The difficulty lies in navigating this expansive landscape and selecting a specific angle or theme that not only captures the essence of popular culture but also provides a fresh perspective for the reader. One challenge is the sheer diversity of topics within popular culture. Deciding whether to delve into the impact of social media on societal norms, explore the influence of popular music on identity, or analyze the symbiotic relationship between celebrity culture and consumerism requires careful consideration. Balancing breadth and depth is crucial, as attempting to cover too much ground may result in a superficial analysis, while focusing too narrowly may limit the essay's relevance and appeal. Moreover, staying current is a perpetual challenge when tackling popular culture. Trends and phenomena shift rapidly, and what is considered "popular" can transform in the blink of an eye. This dynamic nature demands not only a keen understanding of current cultural dynamics but also an ability to contextualize these trends within a broader historical and sociocultural framework. Researching such a topic can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. The wealth of information available, coupled with the need to distinguish between significant trends and fleeting fads, requires a discerning eye. Credible sources and up-to-date references are essential to provide a solid foundation for the essay's arguments. The key to a successful essay on popular culture lies in striking a balance between analysis and engagement. It's not just about presenting facts and trends but also about interpreting their significance and implications. Additionally, the essay should be accessible to a wide audience, as popular culture inherently appeals to diverse demographics. In conclusion, while writing an essay on popular culture may pose challenges, the process is ultimately rewarding. It allows the writer to explore the nuances of contemporary society, analyze cultural phenomena, and contribute to ongoing conversations about the ever-evolving landscape of popular culture. It is also important to understand that not mater the differences in background, religion, social status or heath, everyone is prone to participating in the rituals. The ritual involves heightened meaning and emotion and is often experienced as spiritual. It is focused around a specific situation or event and involves out of the ordinary activities. In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title Defender of the Faith a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and the Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wife and beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the minister who had arranged the marriage. Henry s fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for misconduct. In 1543 he married his sixth wife, the tactful and pious Catherine Parr. Catherine, who survived Henry, lived to marry her fourth husband. During Henry s reign

This was said ten years after Sarbanes Oxley was first enforced into Corporate America. The Act changed everything we know to this day about the regulations within Corporate America. Some still try and say that the Act has done nothing and other differ and say it was a success and still is. Shareholders now have more trust within companies and the ethical behavior a company shows (Peregrine.M. 2012, July 25). Without the creation of Sarbanes Oxley can it be said that shareholders with the company would still feel the same? Sarbanes Oxley seized the center of corporate direction from the corner office and returned it to the boardroom, where it belonged. Moreover, the law encouraged the identification of best practices to guide boardroom conduct. It has helped to shape the focus of state courts and regulators on the proper application of other fiduciary duty laws. It has raised the public consciousness of corporate governance (Peregrine.M. 2012, July 25). All this is saying is that companies are improving operations as to how decisions are being made. This is for the better because it calls for some sort of accountably for major decisions. Also shareholders can feel a since of trust within the

In Lois Lowry s book, The Giver, Jonas and his utopian community don t have any memories or emotions. When Jonas was chosen to be the receiver, at the ceremony of twelves, he receives all the memories that none of the community will understand. The Giver transfers memories to Jonas like color, love, and pain. Throughout receiving memories, Jonas starts to question the people that don t have these things, and this is where the theme Life without emotions is not a life worth living comes into play. I love you to the moon and back. In this utopian community, there are birth mothers instead of traditional parents who fall in love. If this idealistic community had emotion, there would be no birthmothers. Since Jonas has feelings, he thought that love was the best feeling in the whole world. Throughout the this whole novel it was clear that the community had no feelings or emotion. So, the theme Life without emotions is not a life worth living really shines through The Giver. At the end of the novel, the Giver and Jonas made plan. The plan was that Jonas had to leave the community and everyone will receive all the memories that Jonas has. What do think everyone would do if suddenly the people in your community started to have no emotions? Would they be lost like Jonas s community if they didn t have the

Las Vegas Is A City Of The Strip Essay Las Vegas is a city that is widely known for its casinos, gambling, alcohol, wild parties, and live entertainment (which usually just entails strippers). It is known as being most adult s fantasy playground come alive, and because of this it has been dubbed as Sin City. Because of its nickname, and the way it is constantly being portrayed in the media it s easy to see why non locals can find it difficult to imagine there being any type of ordinary life occurring outside of the infamous Strip that isn t at all entwined with the glitz and glamour that one correlates with Las Vegas. Sin City locals, on the other hand, can most definitely vouch for there being life outside of the Strip, but also for there being no life outside of it. So much emphasis and attention is placed on the Strip that many locals feel that their life outside of it isn t as commemorative, and because of this they see no point in taking the time to enjoy their life here in Sin City. In order for locals to enjoy their life in Vegas ad be able to get the most out of it they must first accept that the fact that they live in a tourist town, set aside their own insider views for a moment to be able to look at the city through the eyes of a tourist, and learn to appreciate the life that there is outside and inside of the Strip. • 15. Kant s The Metaphysic Of Morals A very influential philosopher Immanuel Kant says, To be kind where one can is duty (Pure Practical Reason in the Moral Law, 127). Kant makes the argument that without good intentions, even if the action itself is morally good, the action has no intrinsic worth. Although he makes a very strong argument, this isn t accepted by everyone. In the excerpt Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals, Kant presents a profound argument that how right an action is, is determined by intention of the principle that is being acted on. He believes that the outcome of an action is irrelevant because it is out of our control, it doesn t matter if what we genuinely intended is accomplished. But, we can control the will behind the action. He explains, The good will is not good because of what it effects or accomplishes or because of its adequacy to achieve some proposed end; it is good only because of its willing, i.e. it is good of itself (124). Kant uses an example of two shopkeepers that treat their customers in the same way, but are in fact motivated very differently. The first shopkeeper gives the correct change to the customer, but for selfish purposes. He is scared of getting caught for trying to cheat an inexperienced customer like a child. Plus, obtaining a good reputation of being an honest shopkeeper improves his business. The second shopkeeper gives honest change to the customer simply because he is an honest man, and it is morally right. Even though both shopkeepers did the

Starting off with a successful person is one of Gladwell s tactics; he draws you in with a poster child for success. Also, throughout the books he uses engaging pop culture references: the university s enormous mainframe computers stood in the middle of a vast white room, looking, as one faculty member remembers, like one of the last scenes in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. The problem which exists with the proposed bill is that some parts of EU law relate directly to issues which have been devolved to Scotland, for example; agriculture, fishing in Scottish waters and environmental law. Therefore, legal constitutionalists would argue that the Scotland Act is entrenched within the UK Constitution and cannot be abolished. Furthermore, political constitutionalists would argue that that there are large political constraints which prohibit the repeal of the Scotland Act, and therefore, the abolishment of the Scottish Parliament. The principles of accountability and democracy would serve to prevent Westminster deciding to repeal the Act. Since its establishment in 1999, it is clear that the Scottish Parliament is an institution which is desired by the people of Scotland. Therefore, abolishment is possible but unlikely. Ever since the revolution of 1789, it seems as if the French cannot maintain one system of government. They are often caught between the interests of the people and liberalism, while fighting against the self interests of the elite. Often the revolutions would run countercurrent to the previous one. The revolutions of the 20th century were no different. Karl Marx had said that each revolution is merely a re imagining of the original revolution of 1789. It was a day that marked the beginning of the largest slave rebellion in British North America. What was the name of this rebellion? It was the Stono Revolt. According to (......) twenty slaves (the exact number is unknown) attacked the Hutchenson s near the Stono River, beheaded the storekeeper, seized weapons, and started matching towards Florida. This owes to the reality that freedom had been promised by Spanish at St. Augustine. More slaves joined the rebellion and killed almost twenty five whites before a British militia quashed the rebellion. Historians like Hofer (2010) and Rodriguez (2007) have different explanations for the causes of this revolt. This paper analyzes two reasons for the Stono revolt by explaining how they are different, evaluating, describing, and interpreting the reasons. To begin with, Hofer (2010) argues that the main reason for the Stono was a promise from the Spanish King. The author asserts that the King of Spain had promised freedom and protection to all fugitive slaves. Consequently, slaves belonging to Captain Davies escaped to Augustine where they were received as promised. Other slaves belonging to Captain Macpherson ran away with an advantage of having knowledge of the terrain to Augustine. They too, were received with honor and praise. In fact, Shuler (2009) asserts that one of them was given a velvet coat. The news of warm reception of slaves (at

If inflation in the UK is persistently above our major trading partners, British exporters may struggle to maintain their share in overseas markets and import penetration into the UK domestic market will grow. Both trends could lead to a worsening balance of payments. The UK government believes that monetary stability (i.e. low inflation) is a precondition for sustained economic expansion. The Baroque Style Within Gospel Music Essay The Baroque Style within Gospel Music Growing up in a Christian family, a minister as a father, a musician as a mother, Gospel music was the prominent source of musical entertainment in my childhood. As my peers listened to and could tell you about current hip hop, rap, and r b music, I could do the same with Gospel. It wasn t until high school, when I started my pursuit of music, that I started learning the classical style and developing an appreciation for it. However, in my endeavor, I came to the realization that most gospel music, mainly around 1990s 2000s, were similar in theory to some of the classical songs I was studying at the time. Whether it be the structure of the chords, the chord progressions, the harmonies, the counterpoint, there are undoubtedly a myriad of similar techniques within both styles of music. As I progress in the field of music, I learn that the specific period of classical music that would have the most similar traits as Gospel music would be the Baroqueperiod. The Baroque period is estimated to encompass music from the span of 1600 1750. Many of its known composers of the era include Bach, Handel, Monteverdi, Purcell and many more. It was in the baroque period where music finally found a key; where we stray away from the church modes and get a sense of tonicization, in terms of chord progressions and structure. • 31. Zora Identity In Zora Neale Hurston s essay How It Feels To Be Colored Me , her racial identity varies based on her location. Towards the beginning of her life when Zora was in her own community she could be a lighthearted, carefree spirit. However, when she was forced to leave her community, Zora s identity became linked to her race. In this essay I will demonstrate how Zora s blackness is both a sanctuary and completely worthless. In the all black community of Eatonville, Zora felt like members of her town saw her for who she was. There were no racial barriers in the community because of everyone s shared culture, and history. Growing up in her small community, she came to love it and she felt a strong tie to her hometown. She illustrates this by saying, But I was their Zora nevertheless. I belonged to them, to the nearby hotels, to the county everybody s Zora (Hurston 42). Zora argues that because everyone was of the same color, the community could see past racial labels. A black Zora could not exist in Eatonville, and it was not an indicator of who she was because describing Zora as black in Eatonville does not do her identity justice. Zora could be Zora, because she felt no race, because she was so comfortable in her skin she could be a part of a community of people. In Eatonville, she did not see people because of racial labels, she had no knowledge of the stereotypes associated with black people. Because of her ignorance, Zora looked deep into people s character as a young girl. Zora could not understand why the dynamic in her community changed when white people rode through her town. In Eatonville, she often would disobey her elders by waving and greeting as white visitors rode through her town. She says herself that During this period, white people differed from colored to me only in that they rode through town and never lived there (Hurston 42). The choices are Cause and effect diagrams, control charts, Run charts, scatter diagrams, histograms, Pareto charts and flow charts. I am a huge fan of statistical analysis however; it is not one of the seven tools we have to work with. Therefore, I have chosen the Pareto Chart method to help with our quality control. Once the processes are categorized, then they can be prioritized. This is where the whole leadership team gets involved, to include the stakeholders. Then these prioritized categories can be made into a hierarchical structure with substance and value. This Pareto analysis chart is rather easy to produce in Microsoft Excel, which is a good thing because I am fairly competent with the process using MS Excel. We simply put in a table the consumption values during the determined period of study and then turn it into a chart and you have a visual of the consumption periods. We can then find the highest consumption periods and compare them to any changes or patterns differences from the lower periods. Then these values can be re charted in another analysis chart to visually compare the major causes of energy consumption. In conclusion, the Pareto analysis will allow us to identify the major energy consumption issues or the major energy conservation savings factors and allow us to prioritize them in a hierarchical manner. Then the decision making process can begin to work to reduce the overall costs and save energy at the same time. After much thought, domestic violence was chosen. According to the Department of Justice, domestic violence is the abusive behavior from an individual within a relationship, resulting in physical or emotional harm to their partner. This includes, but is not limited to, hitting, shoving, name calling, or undermining an individual s sense of self worth. First, Carrie Underwood s Blown Away (May 1, 2012), from the album of the same name, is sad and dramatic with its deep meaningful lyrics (ITunes). In short, it is about a young girl who lives with her abusive alcoholic father. Without going into much detail, she hopes her father and the memories of him will vanish. Secondly, Green Day s Pulling Teeth (Jan. 28, 1994), from the album titled Dookie, is about an abusive relationship where the woman beats up the man. Although scared of the abuse, the man continues to stay in the relationship as the woman says multiple times that she loves him. Both songs mentioned above have a very deep relationship between the music that is being played and the lyrics that are being sung. This connection will be discussed in much more detail in Section D. B.Issue Discussion Domestic violence is a serious concern and should be addressed immediately. This problem is far more common than we think as it affects thousands of people a day, including children,

Darwin (1860) never attempted to find a clear location of animal instinct but rather, compared instincts to malleable, habitual experiences carried across individuals of similar species (p.207). He concluded that natural selection could play a role in the gradual development of instincts, and theorized that variations of competing behaviors among different animals result of this phenomenon. In, The Organism and its Behavior, Krout (1933), relays Darwin s attitudes of instinct, who spoke of instincts as chains of reflexes but treated them as mental faculties , which impel animals to perform certain actions (p. 87). Today s ethologists take Darwin s approach to instinct, and emphasize the role of experience in shaping human behavior. Fear, a trait observed by Darwin in various species of birds, is certainly an instinctive quality, as may be seen in nestling birds, though it is strengthened by experience, and by the sight of fear of the same enemy in other animals. But fear of man is slowly acquired (Darwin, 1860). The natural world, according the Darwin, has a direct effect on the everchanging traits of an organism, whether habitual or instinctive. The constant shift of environmental factors influences humans and nonhumans to form habits, and potentially, instincts. This comparative approach has opened the doors to new ideas about behavior in humans
