The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has decided to establish Remembrance and Reconciliation Day on 8 May to honor those who died in wars. Remembrance Day is currently marked on 11 November to commemorate the end of World War I at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, with ceremonies at war memorials and churches. The red poppy has become a symbol of Remembrance Day due to a World War I poem, and artificial poppies are traditionally worn and sold by the Royal British Legion to support war veterans. In 2014, over 800,000 ceramic poppies were installed in the moat of the Tower of London, one for each British and colonial fatality in
