5. Each one of us is a gift, it is a gift, a unique gift —with his limits—, yet a gift, a precious
and sacred gift of God, for the Christian community and for the human community.
So, just as we are, we enrich the community and let ourselves be enriched as a whole.
6. Attending to the "here and now", as you are already doing, paying attention to detail
with a practical sense; these beautiful virtues are typical of the Portuguese people.
7. We are all fragile and needy, but the compassionate gaze of the Gospel leads us to see what is lacking
in those who need it most. And to serve the poor, the favorites of God, who became poor for us
(cf. 2 Cor 8,9), the excluded, the marginalized, the discarded, the little ones, the defenseless.
8. They are the treasure of the Church, they are God's favorites.
And, among them, let us remember that we should not make
distinctions. For a Christian, in fact, there are no preferences
for the needy that knocks on our door, whether they are
nationals or foreigners, belonging to one group or another,
young or old, nice or unfriendly.
9. everything that is hoarded for oneself will be lost, while what is given
for love will never be wasted, but will be our treasure in Heaven.
10. Saint John of God
founder of the Hospitaller
Brothers – Fatebenefratelli –
said –whoever follows Jesus
does not lose peace
nor will he lament
16. Jesus walked to the Cross, died on the Cross,
so that our souls can smile. Amen.
17.
18. Saturday, August 5, 2023 - the Rosary with sick
young people in the Chapel of the Apparitions
of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima
19. the Virgin who hurries, every time
there is a problem, every time we
invoke her, she doesn't take long,
she comes, she hurries…
She hurries to be close to us,
she hurries because
she is a Mother.
20. Mother, what are you pointing at me? What is there in my life that worries you?
What is there in my life that moves you? What is there in my life that interests you?
21.
22. Private meeting with members of the Society
of Jesus at the College de San Juan de Brito
24. Mary goes because she
loves, and "he who loves
flies, runs and rejoices"
(Imitation of Christ, III, 5).
25. joy is missionary, joy is
not for oneself, it is for
bringing something.
26. The Alpines, who like to climb mountains, have a very nice
little song that goes like this: "In the art of ascending —the
mountain—, what matters is not not falling, but not staying fallen."
27. I don't know if some like soccer. I like it.
Behind a goal, what is there? Lots of training.
Behind a success, what is there? Lots of training.
28. Walk and, if you fall, get up; walk with a goal; train every day in life. In life, nothing is free.
Everything is paid. There is only one thing free: the love of Jesus. So, with this free gift that
we have —the love of Jesus— and with the desire to walk, let us walk in hope, let us look
at our roots and go forward, without fear. Do not be afraid.
29. Sunday, August 6, 2023 - Holy Mass for World Youth Day in Parque Tejo
30. Shine - we need some light, a flash of light that gives hope to face so
many darknesses that assail us in life, so many daily defeats, to face
them with the light of the resurrection of Jesus, because He is the
light that does not go out, it is the light that shines even at night.
31. We become luminous, we shine, when,
welcoming Jesus, we learn to love like Him.
32. Listen - Grab the Gospel and read what Jesus says and what he says
in your heart. Because He has words of eternal life for us; He reveals
that God is Father, is love. He teaches us the way of love, listen to Jesus
33. He tells you today, here in Lisbon,
on this World Youth Day: -
"Don't be afraid".
34. ÁNGELUS - I owe it to you, Lisbon, that you will remain in the memory of these young people
as "house of fraternity" and "city of dreams". I also express my gratitude to Cardinal Farrell —
who has been rejuvenated in these Days— and to those who have prepared these Days,
as well as to all those who have accompanied them with prayers.
35. Thanks – to John Paul II,
who gave life to the World Youth Days.
36. You are a sign of peace to the world, a testament to how diverse
nationalities, languages and histories can unite rather than divide.
You are hope for a different world. Thank you. Keep going!
37. I would like to invite you. I bring young people from all over the world
together for 2025, in Rome, to celebrate together the Jubilee of Youth!
38. And the next World Youth Day will take place in Asia:
it will be in South Korea, in Seoul! And so, in 2027, from
the western border of Europe it will move to the Far East:
this is a beautiful sign of the universality of the Church!
40. Thanks to the Patriarch of Lisbon for his words, to Bishop Aguiar and to all of you
for having worked so hard and so well, making these unforgettable days possible.
41. They ran quite a lot in these months. I could only see the end, these days. Watching as
they responded to a thousand needs, sometimes with faces marked by fatigue, other
times a little overwhelmed by the urgencies of the moment, but I always noticed one
thing, that their eyes were luminous, luminous with the joy of service. Thank you!
42. Renewing the personal encounter with Jesus every day is the center of the Christian life.
And you have to renew it every day to keep it fresh, not only in your head but in your heart.
43. Things are useless to bring order to our lives, distractions are useless,
money is useless. It is necessary to dilate the heart
44. May the service you have done to this World Youth Day
be the first of many waves of good; and each time
they will be carried higher, closer to God,
47. I prayed, I prayed, I prayed,
to Our Lady and I prayed for
peace. I did not advertise;
but I did pray.
48. On any of these telephones, paying something and with a password, you have access to the sexual abuse
of minors. This enters our homes and child sexual abuse is filmed live. Where is it filmed? Who are responsible?
This is one of the most serious plagues, along with all the rest, but I want to underline this because, out there,
it does not occur to us that things are so radical. When you use a child to put on a show of abuse, it draws
attention. Abuse is like "eating" the victim, right? Or worse, hurt her and leave her alive.
49. There are also other types of abuse that cry out to heaven: child labor abuse, child labor
abuse, and it is used; abuse of women, right? Still today, in many countries, the surgical
operation of girls is used as a method: they remove their clitoris, and that's today, and it's
done with a razor, and bye. Cruelty. And labor abuse, that is, within sexual abuse, which
is serious and all this, there is a culture of abuse that humanity has to review and convert.
50. an immigrant who, came from Guinea to Spain; - it took him
three years because he was captured, tortured, enslaved.
The plight of the immigrants in those North African lagers is awful.
51. The bishops of the Mediterranean will have a meeting, also with some politicians,
to seriously reflect on the drama of immigrants. The Mediterranean is a cemetery,
but it is not the biggest cemetery. The largest cemetery is North Africa
52. Homosexuals, re-married
and sacraments
Each one finds God in his own
way, within the Church; and the
Church is mother, and guides each
one in her own way. - … each one,
in prayer, in internal dialogue,in
pastoral dialogue with pastoral
agents, looks for the way
to follow.
53. the sick and healthy, old and young, ugly and handsome, good and
bad! There is a kind of perspective that does not understand this
insertion of the Church as a mother and thinks of it as a kind of
"company", that to enter it is necessary to do this, to do it this way and no other.
54. Another thing is the ministry in the Church, which is the way to carry the flock forward, and
one of the important things in it, in the ministry, is to accompany people, step by step, on their
path of maturation. - Each one of us has this experience: that the mother Church has
accompanied us and accompanies us on our own path of maturation.
55. young people are religious, they seek a faith that is not embittered,
not artificial, not legalistic; seek an encounter with Jesus Christ
56. we started talking
about suicide.
At the end he told
me: "Thank you,
because last year
I was undecided
whether to commit
suicide or not."
So many anguished,
depressed young
people, and not only
psychologically,
