3. Mise en Scene
◦ Costume- 'Free' Clothing , Allowed for free movement maybe for dancing
◦ Hair and Makeup – Persons regular hairstyle and Makeup
◦ Props – Related to Costume. Eg: Shopkeeper- Price Gun. If Musician potentially instrument
◦ Set Design/Location - Lots of Public Spaces and Views of the Sky or Nature in Shot
◦ Casting – People of lots of ages, backgrounds, Casual Dress. The music is for everyone

4. Lighting
◦ Higher Key than Low Key Lighting with very little to no shadows shown throughout. This
makes the people appear more to the screen as a main character and not a shadowed
background character
◦ Naturalistic Lighting In Open Spaces, Indoor Spaces have No Extra Lighting than what the
room already provides. In Pop this represents a sort of all welcome approach, where the
music is fit for anyone, anywhere.

5. Shot Types
◦ Height - Mid to high shots of people, Putting you on a equal level
with them, nothing above or below them too much, like a face-to-face
level
◦ Range – Mid to Long Range shots. Lots of dancing shown in long
shot, with some medium close-up focus on action shots, things such as
feet dancing, Musician singing.

6. Editing Techniques
◦ The Clips of People dancing, or something happening gets passed along quickly, from between 2-10 seconds. This creates a
sense of movement and togetherness, as if they were all dancing at the same time and not across multiple months of
filming
◦ There is some special affects used in the videos, and can be the focus of the video, or just a shot where something quickly
happens, Such as The KID Laroi floating, or Panic! At The Disco walking up a bulidng, telling the watcher, this is what it
can make you feel

7. Camera Angles & Movement
◦ Angles – Most shots are face on with the cast pointed straight at them and the scene behind them. Sometimes the cast
maybe spin or move their head away from camera, but the angle doesn't change. In Some instances, there are close-up
shots that are side on with the musician, sort of like a action shot.
◦ Moving – The camera in pop is always moving, even if it is a still shot, the camera will move like its handheld. The freely
held makes it feel inclusive, like you're in the moment with him/her. There is also some movement backwards when a
dancer comes towards the camera

8. Representation
◦ The Common Representation of all people in these music videos is quite
equal. People of all genders are race are seen together, dancing. Some
videos may not contain a cast, so representation is just the band/musician.

9. Narrative
◦ Most Videos can follow some narrative, some along this lines of – getting
people to dance, going somewhere. Then there is more complicated examples
such as getting up a building to meet the band, shown by Panic! At The Disco
.
