OBJECTIVE
Classifies algebraic
expressions which are
polynomials according to
degree and number of
terms.
POLYNOMIALS
Algebraic Expression
is an expression made of
numbers, variables and
grouping and operation
symbols.
TERMS
- the parts of an algebraic
expression separated by a plus
or a minus sign.
POLYNOMIAL
- is a special kind of algebraic
expression where each term is
a constant, a variable, or a
product of constants and
variables and have exponents
that are non-negative integers.
THE DEGREE OF A POLYNOMIAL
- is determined by the
highest exponent of any of
its variables or the sum of
the exponents of the
variables in each term.
KINDS OF POLYNOMIALS
1. MONOMIAL
- a polynomial consisting of
only one term.
Example: 2x, 4xy, 3x³y²
2. BINOMIAL
- a polynomial consisting of
two terms.
Example: x + 3y, 2x – 4yz,
2x² + 1
3. TRINOMIAL
- a polynomial consisting of
three terms.
Example: 3x² - 2x + 1
4. MULTINOMIAL
- a polynomial consisting
of four or more terms.
Example: 4x³ + 3x² - 2x + 1
CONSTANT POLYNOMIAL
- a polynomial that
does not have a variable.
