* Pollution is the introduction of harmful
materials into the environment.
* Materials that spoil our environment
are called pollutants.

5. Air Pollution
It refers to any physical, chemical or biological change
in the air.
The mixture of smoke and fog in air is called ‘smog’.
6. Water Pollution
It occurs when harmful substances contaminate a
stream, river, lake, ocean or other body of water,
degrading water quality.
Water pollution have a harmful effect on both living and
non-living organisms.
7. Noise Pollution
Unwanted and loud sounds are known as noise.
Lot of noise in environment which cause disturbance to human ear
called noise pollution.
8. Land Pollution
The degradation of the earth’s land surfaces, both above and below
ground level.
Soil pollution also due to seepage of harmful chemicals present in
pesticides, and by dumping waste and garbage in fertile places.

Air pollution leads to breathing problem, respiratory diseases,
global warming.
Aquatic plants and animals are affected by water pollutants and
excessive water pollution.
Noise pollution can lead to nervous system disorder, high blood
pressure, stress and sleep disturbance.
Land pollution leads to infertile soil and does not support growth of
plants, and the land becomes unusable.

Walk to nearby places instead of using
bike or car.
Use public transport instead of private
vehicles.
Practice the use of 3R’s: i.e. Reduce
Recycle Reuse.
Regular checks for leaks in your home and
car air conditioning system.
Plant more and more tress and give
proper care to them.
