PgMP Certification – Eligibility Requirements

- Strategic objective(s) for which the program is undertaken: 2-3 lines
- Program vision, the mission (the trigger, why it was undertaken): 2-3 lines
- Planned benefits and their details: 4-6 lines
- List Components along with mission (why and what it does) of the component: Bulleted points, 1-line description of
components. Restrict to 4-6 important components if you have more
- The value of the delivered benefits: Current status (Initiated, in planning, progressing, completed - concluding statement)

2. Do not use any organisational/domain specific words, names and other abbreviations. You can use designations

Writing Experience Summary..
Answers to these questions demonstrate your work as a program manager
- Read carefully the instructions in PgMP handbook page 11 and “PgMP application completion guidelines” by Harish
- Read through program manager role definition as in the PgMP handbook page and ECO
- Draft using word processor / spreadsheet, review and then finally transfer to the online form
- It is like answering to an interview question for an experienced program manager
- Set the context: For the program you have selected to answer, provide how you have set-up and describe the process, who all involved in
planning (yourself, team, PMO, Sponsor,,,) 4-6 lines
- How it was implemented and who all were involved… meetings, tracking action items, 6-8 lines
- Narrate briefly one or two specific instances which demonstrated your management skills in the domain. These points can refer to the
benefits derived from the program: 6-8 lines
- As much as possible provide quantifiable targets and results of the progress.
- Program manager takes decisions based on the information and directs the work as per the plan towards realising the benefits.
- Program manager also need ensure projects are strategically aligned to program objectives.
1. It is similar to you explaining about the program to a third person, who do not know about your work
2. Do not use any organisational specific words, names and other abbreviations.
3. Use simple sentences and address in first person. Eg: I have decided to implement..
4. Arrange the information in groups (bulleted points) and paragraphs

Important Points
Think like a Program Manager
Below points should stand-out from your answer
Who: Who all you get them involved into the context ( org designations)
How: How you carried out this work – tools and techniques, what artefacts created
What: Quantify the result as much as possible: Absolute or % figures are also ok
Challenges: Describe 2-3 challenges ( issue/risk/change impact to the program
objectives) that shows your experience
Focus is onto HOW (methods, tools and techniques, who all you have
involved..) you managed program than the results
Do not respond with “textbook” definitions of program management
terms. Instead, provide specific examples from your personal experience as a
program manager

Feedback from PMI : Example
Below is some of the feedback received from the Panel Review
Committee:
• Responses did not provide specific examples demonstrating
candidate's role as a program manager.
• Responses reflected candidate's role as a project manager
overseeing multiple work streams within one project or multiple
related projects.
• Responses focused on the use of tools and techniques rather than
on the rationale and the strategic approach.
• Responses did not thoroughly explain HOW (the method or
approach used) they performed the program management
functions in one or more of the experience summary questions.
Responses were tactical in nature and/or limited to "textbook"
explanation of topics.
