Plot is the series of related events that make up a story. Most plots contain four main elements: an introduction where characters and conflict are established, complications that arise as characters deal with the conflict, a climax where the outcome is decided, and a resolution where the conflict is resolved. Conflict, which can be external between characters/forces or internal within a character's mind, is the driving force of the plot and makes the story interesting. External conflict involves struggles with outside forces like other people or nature, while internal conflict takes place within a character's own mind as they struggle with desires, needs, or emotions.
