A plot consists of exposition to introduce characters and setting, rising action as the main character faces conflicts, a climax that reveals the outcome of the main conflict, and a resolution that shows how characters deal with the outcome. It tells a chain of related events with one causing another in a story.

happens in a story. One event causes another
to occur, which causes another to occur and
so on.

3. EXPOSITION
It is the part of the story in which we are
introduced to the characters , setting and the
basic story conflict. In some stories, the
exposition occurs over several pages or even
chapters; in some, the exposition is very short –
perhaps confined to a paragraph or two.

4. RISING ACTION
It is the part of the story in which the main
character faces a series of conflicts on his or
her journal towards reaching the goal.

5. CLIMAX
• It is the point at which we learn the outcome
of the story’s main conflict. Very often, the
climax is also the emotional high point of the
story.

6. RESOLUTION
It is the closing part of the story in which we
learn how the characters have dealt with the
outcome of the conflict.
