Platelet rich plasma (PRP) involves injecting a patient's own concentrated platelets and growth factors into injured areas to stimulate healing. PRP is used to treat tendon injuries, muscle strains, ligament sprains, joint injuries like arthritis or meniscus tears, and bone regeneration. It has also been used for wound healing after surgery, cardiac care, skin repair, cosmetic procedures, and dental applications. Case studies show PRP helped regenerate bone prior to dental implant placement in 89% of patients and reduced pain and accelerated recovery for a patient who received a PRP injection for a ruptured Achilles tendon.

2. What is Platelet Rich Plasma? Treatment done to stimulate healing which involves injection of one's own growth factors into injured areas. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a new treatment used for some common orthopedic conditions, including sports injuries. PRP is a concentration of platelet cells taken from your blood, and these platelets have growth factors that may help in the healing process of chronic injuries. Growth factors are chemicals that signal the body to initiate a healing response. By injecting PRP into areas of an injury, the hope is to stimulate and optimize your body’s ability to heal the chronic conditions.

Kassolis Dental Implant Study of bone regeneration using Autogenous graft in the Aveolar Ridge Study was comprised of 36 patients needing Aveolar bone regeneration prior to implant placemement. Reports suggest that platelet-rich plasma (PRP), presumably high in levels of peptide growth factors, may enhance the formation of new bone when used in combination with autogenous graft material 89% of these patients were considered clinically successful demonstrating complete bone coverage of the implant, no mobility, and a normal radiographic appearance.

7. Achilles Tendon: Case Studyby: Dr. Steve Sampson, D.O. 71-year-old male physician who ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing badminton. A musculoskeletal ultrasound was performed identifying major tearing with a few posterior fibers intact of the Achilles tendon. The patient received a platelet rich plasma injection graft under ultrasound guidance approximately 5 weeks following his injury. Initially he experienced some mild ankle swelling after activity, however 3.5 months after treatment he is 99% pain free with no limitations and is exercising without limitations.
