2. Divergent Boundaries
Divergent Boundaries are the boundaries
between two plates that are diverging, or
moving away from each other.
3. What Forms at Divergent Plate
Boundaries?
Ridges: Mountain chain that forms along the floor of the
ocean. (E.g. Mid-Atlantic Ridge)
Volcanoes: an opening in the Earth's crust through which
molten lava, ash, and gases are ejected.
4. Iceland has a divergent plate boundary
running through its middle
5. Convergent Boundaries
Convergent Boundaries are the boundaries
between two plates that are converging, or
moving towards each other.
There are three types of convergent
boundaries:
1. An ocean floor plate collides with a less dense
continental plate.
2. An ocean floor plate collides with another
ocean floor plate.
3. A continental plate collides with another
continental plate.
6. What Forms at Convergent Plate
Boundaries?
Mountain Ranges: when two continental plates collide
pushing the continental crust up to form mountains.
Subduction Zones: The region where oceanic plates sink
down into the asthenosphere.
Volcanoes: an opening in the Earth's crust through which
molten lava, ash, and gases are ejected.
