Grasses have a soft stem.
Thy are thin, bendy and usually short.

4. Busses are taller than grasses.
Bushes have a lot of woody stems with low branches.
The blackberry bush has lots of long branches

5. Trees have a thick, woody stem called a trunk.

6. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in autumn.
Oak trees are decidious.

7. Evergreen trees produce leavesallyear round.

How plants make their own food

9. Plants need water, minerals, light and energy from the Sun
and carbon dioxide to make their own food.

10. Plants make food in their leaves.

11. The roots absorb water and minerals from the soil.

12. The water and minerals travel up the stem to the
leaves.

13. The leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air through
small holes.

with water, minerals and sunlight to make food.
During the process of
photosynthesis, plants release
oxygen into the air.
