As an organization, their mission is “to advance excellence in oncology nursing and quality cancer care” with a vision “to lead the transformation of cancer care” (Oncology Nursing Society, 2017). Innovation, excellence and advocacy is what guides ONS to improve the quality of life and outcomes for patients with cancer and their families as well as improving the nursing profession (Oncology Nursing Society, 2017). They not only engage in providing education and training for nurses but also engage in international outreach and partnering with other organizations that share common goals to enhance quality of care for people with cancer. ONS sends members to the Nurse in Washington Internship program annually giving attendees a better understanding of political, legislative and regulatory issues facing nurses ending with a visit to Capitol Hill to influence policy for nurses and the patients they serve (Saria et al., 2014). Cancer care is complex and continuously changing. As a member of the health care team, I feel the values of excellence, innovation and advocacy are reflected in their mission and vision statements. I also feel their mission and vision statements also mirrors the organization I work for. As a health care provider, Aurora Health Care, helps people to live well, providing the best care possible during and after a patient’s hospitalization. They support and encourage their medical/oncology nurses to become oncology and chemotherapy certified. They provide annual mandatory cancer education and offer monthly oncology seminars for all health care providers. The also encourage and support local, state and national seminars as well for their nurses. As a health care provider, they are devoted to providing the most current up to date treatment and promote safety through the encouragement and participation of evidence based initiatives and quality improvement projects.

Progressive developments in science and technology in the 20th century contributed to advances in healthcare and medicine that have helped many lives. Healthcare professionals are confronted with ethical dilemmas and moral questions as the context in which healthcare is provided keeps on changing. Healthcare specialists are required to be dedicated to excellence within their professional practice of promoting community, organizational, family, and individual health. Healthcare code of ethics provides a platform for shared professional values (Wocial & Tarzian, 2015). It is the responsibility of healthcare specialists to reach the best possible standards of conduct and to encourage these ethical practices to those with whom they work together. Healthcare professionals are facing challenges as the context in which healthcare is provided keeps on changing.
The Three Mountains Regional Hospital code of ethics will clarify the roles and responsibilities within the healthcare profession. The code of ethics will also guide the healthcare professionals on addressing common ethical questions. With 15,000 admissions annually, the Three Mountains Regional Hospital requires a code of ethics that will guide the healthcare professionals in the hospital in dealing with such a capacity. Healthcare professionals from the hospital will be defined by their purpose but not their job description (Turner & Epstein, 2015). The proposed code of ethics will inform individual decision-making when faced with ethical situations within a given relationship or role at the Three Mountains Regional Hospital.
Ethics are an essential part of healthcare, and they should provide value in practical situations. The proposed code of ethics will provide a structure and shape to the Three Mountains Regional Hospital’s environment and summarize the healthcare organization’s ethical position. The code of ethics will describe the ethical attitude shared by healthcare workers at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, and it will be valuable and influential on the success of the healthcare organization. The mission of the code of ethics is to guide the hospital is leading the way to a healthier community through the provision of quality care.

Agency Reflection
I visited Touchstone Mental health which is an organization that helps people suffering from mental illness. The organization helps clients recover from mental illness as well as imparting them with the basic skills necessary as the clients get incorporated back to the society ("Professional Development | Touchstone Counseling Services Inc."). The organization employs professional clinical sociologists who help in providing care to its clients. The main source of funding is through donations from well wishers.
As an organization dealing with mental illness, touchstone mental health offers significant opportunities for the mental health workers to improve their knowledge as well as skills. It does this through providing classes, structured intern training programs and helping families undergoing transition from divorce ("Professional Development | Touchstone Counseling Services Inc."). Therefore, the organization was a good place and gave me an opportunity to develop as a social work student and professional.

For the Agency Visit paper, I visited Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “Saint Luke’s Health System is a faith-based, not-for-profit, aligned health system committed to the highest levels of excellence in providing health care and health-related services in a caring environment. [It is] dedicated to enhancing the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the diverse communities [it serves]” (Saint Luke’s Health System, 2015a). This hospital branch “offers extensive inpatient and outpatient services,” as any hospital usually does, but also includes 3-D mammography services, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), minimally invasive surgery and the da Vinci surgical robot, and is a Level III Trauma Center (Saint Luke’s Health System, 2015b). While the hospital is capable of serving all ages, the surrounding community is primarily of retirement age. Nearby is the John Knox Village for senior living. Michelle Wales, the social worker I interviewed, pointed out that the patients, generally, are entitled and have “suburban” issues, although the number of uninsured is increasing (personal communication, January 29, 2017).

Gloria is employed at Jones University, through Higher Learning Systems in Connecticut as a data entry specialist. She originally worked for Higher Learning Systems in Canada; but, she transferred with her husband to the United States through his military career. Gloria has been employed with Higher Learning Systems for 6 years. She worked 5 years in Canada and has been in Connecticut for one year. She was on medical leave for 6 months due to her pregnancy with her first child. She had complications and was absent from work for 3 months before the birth of her child.
There are 12 data entry specialists at Jones University in Connecticut. When Gloria took leave unexpectedly, the other 11 specialists had to split up her work duties. After the birth of Gloria’s child, her co-workers were upset that she decided to take off 12 weeks after the birth, despite the fact she was out 12 weeks before the delivery. When Gloria returned to work, she took frequent breaks, more than the policy allowed, to pump and securely store breast milk for her infant. Since these breaks interfered with her workload, the 11 employees were required to carry a percent of Gloria’s workload until she decided to stop pumping and storing breast milk at work. Employees were extremely frustrated at Gloria and felt as though the university was giving her special treatment.
Gloria felt the frustration immediately when returning to work, despite the fact that the university had indicated that it supported mothers on parental leave and mothers who needed extra time to pump breast milk after maternity leave. She felt disrespected by her co-workers due to her cultural beliefs about the importance of breast feeding. The discomfort she felt affected her work, and she began to fall further behind in her daily responsibilities. Soon, she dreaded going to work, cried often, and felt unappreciated by her supervisor. She also felt her supervisor did not approve of her decision to take 12 weeks off after her infant was born and she didn’t approve of her frequent breaks. Gloria often overheard other employees making jokes about her. Gloria has worked for the company for 6 years and does not want to quit. She decides to visit Human Resources for assistance. Human Resources works with Gloria and her supervisor to create a plan of work to assist with the areas of concern.

As a health care provider, Aurora Health Care, helps people to live well, providing the best care possible during and after a patient’s hospitalization. They support and encourage their medical/oncology nurses to become oncology and chemotherapy certified. They provide annual mandatory cancer education and offer monthly oncology seminars for all health care providers. The also encourage and support local, state and national seminars as well for their nurses. Progressive developments in science and technology in the 20th century contributed to advances in healthcare and medicine that have helped many lives. Healthcare professionals are confronted with ethical dilemmas and moral questions as the context in which healthcare is provided keeps on changing. Healthcare specialists are required to be dedicated to excellence within their professional practice of promoting community, organizational, family, and individual health. Healthcare code of ethics provides a platform for shared professional values (Wocial & Tarzian, 2015). It is the responsibility of healthcare specialists to reach the best possible standards of conduct and to encourage these ethical practices to those with whom they work together. Healthcare professionals are facing challenges as the context in which healthcare is provided keeps on changing.
The Three Mountains Regional Hospital code of ethics will clarify the roles and responsibilities within the healthcare profession. The code of ethics will also guide the healthcare professionals on addressing common ethical questions. With 15,000 admissions annually, the Three Mountains Regional Hospital requires a code of ethics that will guide the healthcare professionals in the hospital in dealing with such a capacity. Healthcare professionals from the hospital will be defined by their purpose but not their job description (Turner & Epstein, 2015). The proposed code of ethics will inform individual decision-making when faced with ethical situations within a given relationship or role at the Three Mountains Regional Hospital.
Ethics are an essential part of healthcare, and they should provide value in practical situations. The proposed code of ethics will provide a structure and shape to the Three Mountains Regional Hospital’s environment and summarize the healthcare organization’s ethical position. The code of ethics will describe the ethical attitude shared by healthcare workers at Three Mountains Regional Hospital, and it will be valuable and influential on the success of the healthcare organization. The mission of the code of ethics is to guide the hospital is leading the way to a healthier community through the provision of quality care.

Agency Reflection
I visited Touchstone Mental health which is an organization that helps people suffering from mental illness. The organization helps clients recover from mental illness as well as imparting them with the basic skills necessary as the clients get incorporated back to the society ("Professional Development | Touchstone Counseling Services Inc."). The organization employs professional clinical sociologists who help in providing care to its clients. The main source of funding is through donations from well wishers.
As an organization dealing with mental illness, touchstone mental health offers significant opportunities for the mental health workers to improve their knowledge as well as skills. It does this through providing classes, structured intern training programs and helping families undergoing transition from divorce ("Professional Development | Touchstone Counseling Services Inc."). Therefore, the organization was a good place and gave me an opportunity to develop as a social work student and professional.

For the Agency Visit paper, I visited Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “Saint Luke’s Health System is a faith-based, not-for-profit, aligned health system committed to the highest levels of excellence in providing health care and health-related services in a caring environment. [It is] dedicated to enhancing the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the diverse communities [it serves]” (Saint Luke’s Health System, 2015a). This hospital branch “offers extensive inpatient and outpatient services,” as any hospital usually does, but also includes 3-D mammography services, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), minimally invasive surgery and the da Vinci surgical robot, and is a Level III Trauma Center (Saint Luke’s Health System, 2015b). While the hospital is capable of serving all ages, the surrounding community is primarily of retirement age. Nearby is the John Knox Village for senior living. Michelle Wales, the social worker I interviewed, pointed out that the patients, generally, are entitled and have “suburban” issues, although the number of uninsured is increasing (personal communication, January 29, 2017).

When Gloria returned to work, she took frequent breaks, more than the policy allowed, to pump and securely store breast milk for her infant. Since these breaks interfered with her workload, the 11 employees were required to carry a percent of Gloria’s workload until she decided to stop pumping and storing breast milk at work. Employees were extremely frustrated at Gloria and felt as though the university was giving her special treatment.
Gloria felt the frustration immediately when returning to work, despite the fact that the university had indicated that it supported mothers on parental leave and mothers who needed extra time to pump breast milk after maternity leave. She felt disrespected by her co-workers due to her cultural beliefs about the importance of breast feeding. The discomfort she felt affected her work, and she began to fall further behind in her daily responsibilities. Soon, she dreaded going to work, cried often, and felt unappreciated by her supervisor. She also felt her supervisor did not approve of her decision to take 12 weeks off after her infant was born and she didn’t approve of her frequent breaks. Gloria often overheard other employees making jokes about her. Gloria has worked for the company for 6 years and does not want to quit. She decides to visit Human Resources for assistance. Human Resources works with Gloria and her supervisor to create a plan of work to assist with the areas of concern.
