This pitch presentation proposes an opening sequence for a psychological thriller film about a teenage girl who witnesses her mother's murder. This traumatic event causes her to become a killer seeking revenge. The opening sequence will use conventions like low lighting, quick cuts, and tense music to show flashbacks of the murder through a montage. This will build tension without revealing details and introduce the main character, a flawed protagonist who transforms into an antagonist. The visual style will differentiate the past and present through lighting and costuming to portray the emotional impact of the murder. The target audience is teenage girls who will find the main character relatable. The unusual plot of a female teen as the psychotic antagonist is positioned as the selling point.

2. Final film idea
■ The main basis of the story is a young girl who witnessed her
mother's murder which causes so much damage and trauma
to her that she becomes a killer herself and seeks revenge on
those who wronged her throughout her life. The story will
show the progression of her becoming a psychopath.
■ We chose this plot because we can include an array of thriller
conventions and we can include a variety of camera angles to
build the plot without giving away the storyline.
3. Genre/Key conventions
■ As the genre of the opening sequence is a thriller, the conventions we shall
include in our opening sequence are; Low lighting, quick cuts, tense music and a
montage of shots. We decided on these conventions because we found they
were used throughout the different opening sequence we analysed for research
but were also the most effective.
■ The montage of shots will help build the subtle hints towards the storyline
without giving away to much information about what is going to happen. This
helps build a basic narrative whilst introducing the audience to the main
characters involved and giving a brief background on them, making the
audience feel involved with the story and the characters themselves.
4. Opening sequence conventions
■ In our opening sequence we will try to focus on both narrative and
character. We will include the conventions we chose by having a
montage of flashbacks which reveal how her mother died which will
cross cut to low lighting to reveal that it’s no longer a flashback and to
represent the trauma caused to her daughter and how the event has
effected her.The music will always play a huge part in giving the right
tone to the sequence so having slow piano music will start the sequence
in a calm tone before it turns into a more eerie tone as the tension
increases.
5. Characters
■ The plot will revolve around a young teenage girl, aged 16, she will be
shown in a destressing place as she has witnessed a heart-breaking
event which will change her forever but you will see the simple signs
that she is no longer the same person she was before. Her character is a
conventional flawed protagonist who begins to become an antagonist,
a flawed protagonist is also what our target audience would most likely
want to see. She will be represented as misunderstood teenager who
becomes addicted to wanting to see people feel the same pain she did
when seeing her mother being killed.
6. Visual style
■ The mise-en-scene will include a lot of dark clothing to signify that they are at a
funereal but during in the flashbacks they will be shown in brighter clothes to
represent that it was a happier time. The lighting will also help represents the moods
of each scene having low lighting for the scenes at the funereal but having a cheerier
lighting to show how her life was different when her mother was still alive.
■ we will included cross cutting to differentiate from the past and present to show the
change of tone and mood.Which will reveal the darker undertones of the plot and how
her sense of living has changed. We have chosen to use these visual styles because we
think it is best suited to the plot of the story and would make the story easier to
understand.
7. Target audience
■ Our final idea has been influenced by our target audience as the main
character is a young teenage girl of the same age who will be somewhat
relatable for the young audience. When analysing the data we collected
from our InitialTarget Audience Survey we discovered that the majority
wanted a flawed protagonist and psychological thriller.
8. Selling point
■ Our selling point will be having a young teenage female becoming a
psychotic killer as it’s an unusual plot as many young females are seen
as the victim instead of the dominate flawed protagonist, which makes
it differ from others. Making the character a teen instead of an adult
makes it easier to sell to a younger audience as some of the plot points
may be seen as relatable. (e.g. the death of a loved one)
