2. Overview
The very basic structure of Britain’s Next Top
Photographer is one of a standard reality TV show – 2
presenters, a group of contestants competing weekly –
judges decide who goes home that week. Every week, the
contestants get a theme, e.g. a beach theme and have 24
hours to take, edit etc their photo and present it to the
judges who decide which one is the best, and which is the
worst. This idea was inspired by shows such as The Great
British Bake Off and America’s Next Top Model. It is
primarily a reality show, with competition being at the
heart of it, but it does have aspects of lifestyle, as
photography is a hugely popular hobby, the same way
baking is in The Great British Bake Off.
3. Intended Audience
My target audience for this show is male and
female aged 16 to about 35. The young contestants
(17 – 20) reflect this. Social demographic groups of
C2DE is also part of my primary audience. This fits
in with E4s usual audience of predominantly female
18 to 24 year olds (airing programmes such as
Misfits). Secondary audiences could include
younger siblings and relatives of the primary
audience, as well as parents and children. Even
social demographic groups of ABC1.
