wakes up and realises that he has been kidnapped.
Synopsis
3. Genre
The genre of our film is a psychological thriller this is
because the psychological aspect of the film will be
the idea of the protagonist (James) becoming paranoid
that he is being followed by a group of psychotic
killers. We chose this genre hybrid as it is an interesting
subject and one that some modern audiences can
relate to.
Furthermore from this, some psychological thrillers
have been very successful such as: the machinist,
silence of the lambs, black swan, the exorcist and
many more.
4. Characters
James (Protagonist)

mother

•villain like
5. Target Audience
The primary target audience for our film would be prominently for the
younger audience. This may consist of the age between 17 - 30 year olds. This is
because the protagonist of the film will be 17/18 and the audience may be able
to relate to them more easily.
On the other hand, our secondary audience may be towards an older age, for
those who may be interested in psychological thrillers or have similar themes
such as: the ring and Premonition
6. Promotional Campaign
In our promotional campaign for our film, we will use
social media as one of our platforms to reach our
audience as well as the idea of a ‘fake blog’ where
the protagonist will be filling the audience in with his
experiences of being followed by a group of
psychotic killers.
Also, as part of the marketing campaign, we will
ensure that their is an early screening of the film
that is targeted towards journalists and film critics
before it is released to the rest of the public. As well
as the trailer, we will use posters to promote our
psychological thriller and the use of separate
promotional videos that will of the countdown of
the release of the trailer and the film.
7. Unique Selling Point
In our psychological thriller it is mainly the story line and
the plot twists that drives the marketing of our film. The
enigma and the secrecy surrounding our genre of
psychological thriller will leave the audience questioning
actions of the characters.
8. Generic Conventions Of Our Film
● Setting - The setting of the film will be typical of various
psychological thriller settings such as an isolated alleyways, quiet
town, graveyards and we will use Castlefield house to use as the
Protagonist’s house.
● Themes - The themes within the film will be devastation, guilt,
empathy, consequence and mystery. Within a psychological thriller
there can be various themes as these themes can tie together to
merge into a bigger theme that helps towards creating the
conventions of a psychological thriller.
● Iconography - The typical iconography of a psychological thriller
are known to be, shadows, confined spaces, psychiatric, low key
lighting. We will ensure that each of these key features is included
in my trailer as these iconic elements are what grasp the audience's
attention and letting them know the genre of the film.
