Seth Green discovered American shad fish in 1871 and brought 10,000 of them to the Sacramento River in California. The shad population greatly increased showing they were well-adapted to the new environment. Green received many awards for his pioneering work in fish breeding and management. He is credited with inventing the modern fishing reel and trout fishing rig that bears his name. Pisciculture is the large-scale breeding and rearing of fish under controlled conditions, also known as aquaculture, which is practiced in various water environments. The document then lists and categorizes different types of fish species and their feeding behaviors.
