physical fitness of the learners and have the ability to
easily enjoy everyday physical activities
• Learners are able to perform fun
activities such as swimming,
playing soccer, netball and

• To develop motor skills like strength, endurance,
flexibility, balance, coordination for good performance in

• Physical fitness is the ability of a person to do daily
activities with excellent performance, endurance, and
strength.

• Reduction of depression, stress and anxiety

7. COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS
• There are two components of physical fitness and they
are inter-related to each other
1. Health related fitness
2. Skill related fitness
8. 1. HEALTH RELATED FITNESS
Cardio- respiratory endurance- associated with maintaining
the endurance and the strength of the circulatory and
respiratory systems during a workout to avoid heavy
breathing. For example swimming, cycling and skipping
Muscular strength- strength of the
muscles to exert force till the point of
muscle contraction. Exercises include
weight lifting and pushups.
9. 1. HEALTH RELATED FITNESS CONT.
Muscular endurance- refers to the ability of a muscle to exert
force against weight for a given period of time. exercises
include pull ups and battle rope exercises.
Body composition- proportion of body mass to body fat
meaning the mass of the body should be equal to body fat.
Exercises include good physical workout and eating a
balanced diet
Flexibility- range of emotions around the body. Exercises
include yoga and gymnastics
10. 2. SKILL RELATED FITNESS
Agility- changing the direction and position of the body
while maintaining a rapid and constant motion
Balance- establishing a strong and good control over the
body while standing still or in motion
Coordination- achieving a perfect coordination between
all body parts and senses during an activity
11. 2. SKILL RELATED FITNESS CONT.
Speed- moving parts of the body or the whole body in a
swift manner along with
managing speed and time
Power- moving the body swiftly
while applying a good muscular
strength in an activity.
Reaction time- reacting or responding fast to sound,
voice, sight, feel, etc
