Search in WordPress - how it works and howto customize itOtto Kekäläinen
WordPress search customization is a topic we at Seravo get asked about on a frequent basis. There are many different ways to customize the search, and customers understandably want to learn the best practices. The search can be customized quite easily with small changes on PHP code level, and by utilizing MariaDB database’s built-in search functionality. You can also choose a more robust way to do this, and build a new ElasticSearch server just for your case.

Presentation given in WP Meetup in October 2019.
Includes fresh new tips from summer/fall 2019!
A Must read for all WordPress site owners and developers.
Yahoo has developed the de facto standard for building fast front-ends for websites. The bad news: you have to follow 34 rules to get there. The good news: I'll take a subset of those rules, explain them, and show how you can implement those rules in an automated fashion to minimize impact on developers and designers for your high-traffic website.
The presentation focuses on providing information how to setup hosting servers to use Nginx/Varnish for caching Drupal websites. It features the SiteGround SuperCacher and gives valuable information about how reverse proxies work and how to make a Drupal 7/8 website cache-able by Nginx and Varnish.
A presentation on how to debug your Drupal code. Drupal is a very powerful system and the same time it is also a very complex system. Only somebody really good at Drupal and PHP would be able to master debugging Drupal. Here is a presentation on how to equip yourself to debugging Drupal.

Advanced Eclipse Workshop (held at IPC2010 -spring edition-)Bastian Feder
Diagnosing WordPress: What to do when things go wrongWordCamp Sydney
Everyone hates seeing the White Screen of Death, especially if it’s discovered by the client calling to tell you their site is down. Even more frustrating can be intermittent error and/or slow response times, as these can be much harder to diagnose.
Aimed at newer WordPress developers and advanced users, this talk will start with the basic diagnostics tools available and go all the way through to advanced debugging. Attendees should be able to leave this talk with an informed diagnostic approach to errors, rather than just panic.

Debugging PHP with xDebug inside of Eclipse PDT 2.1Bastian Feder
Integrated development plattforms (IDEs) like Eclipse or Netbeans do get more popular these days.
One cause might be the beautiful benefits a developer gains from using an IDE like a type history or a code completion.
This talk shall enable the attendee to get knowleadge about the possibilites of Eclipse PDT to use xDebug as internal debugger
It shows howto install xDebug and give a deep introduction about how to enable Eclipse PDT version 2 to communicate with xDebug.
Another topic of this talk would be the different debugging mechanism Eclipse PDT provides and how they work.
A presentation given by Roy Ganor and myself at local Microsoft PHP developer day in Microsoft Israel, covering some general Zend info, Zend Framework, some Zend Studio and a bit about Windows Azure. The talk also included a lot of live demo and code review

There are cases where bugs are discovered only after the product is shipped and used by the end-users. The main reason for these bugs that appear only in the production environment is the use of real user scenarios with real user data. Production debugging is about solving customer-facing issues that aren't easily reproducible in the development or testing environments. When it comes to a cloud-hosted application, production debugging becomes even harder. The code is running on multiple hosts, a business flow can span many services. A remote debugging session with the cloud is dangerous and may introduce side effects to the currently running software, such as performance degradation, interruption of service, and data correctness issues.
In this lecture, we will see how we can remote debug our cloud staging environment, and how we can use Visual Studio Snapshot debugger to set Snapshots and Log points in our production environment.
To get even more insights, the audience will see a revolutionary tool and approach for a collaborative production debugging – OzCode Debugging as a Service (DaaS), where the DevOps and the Dev team can solve production problems together!
You will learn:
1. The difficulties of debugging a modern cloud-hosted application
2. Methods and tools for capturing the state and debugging cloud-hosted services
Introducing some strategies in Database Planning for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company. With helping of Microservices architecture, we can design a low-price and safe storage engine for SaaS platform.
Let's dive deeper into the world of ODC! Ricardo Alves (OutSystems) will join us to tell all about the new Data Fabric. After that, Sezen de Bruijn (OutSystems) will get into the details on how to best design a sturdy architecture within ODC.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
