3. What We Do
Here at the Dewey School
• We give students the freedom to be creative
• We provide an environment where children
determine what they learn and how they learn
based of the interests they express.
• We ensure the holistic development of every
child.
• (Sadker & Zittleman, 2010) We are organized
around the concerns, curiosity and real-world
experiences of the students
4. Our “Y”
• We create an environment which enables the
development of students with respect for
diversity. Each individual is recognized for his or
her own abilities, interests, ideas, needs, and
cultural identity. We also serve to enhance the
development of critical, socially engaged
intelligence, which enables individuals to
understand and participate effectively in the
affairs of their community in a collaborative effort
to achieve a common good.
6. Student –Centered
• Students are seated in a
circle/open circle/groups
• Teacher is at the same level as
students/ roves classroom to
interact with students
• Each Classroom has interactive
displays/corners based on the

real-world (Labs)

orientation, and learning ability. We ensure our students respect
each other and engage in projects and behaviors which will
enhance each other.
• Our school is our community, it is each person’s home away from
home; therefore every one is encouraged to act in a loving caring
way towards each other.

the interests, concerns and real-world
experience of our students, therefore all
students receive equal attention and are
taught using the strategies which appeals to
their unique needs. Our students feel as if
they are acknowledged because their interests
play such a huge role in what they do at
school.
12. Dewey High School-A Progressive
Institution
We:
• Ensure that children enjoy the freedom to develop
naturally.
• Make Interest the motive for all work
• Ensure our teachers are guides, not task masters
• Follow pupil development using scientific methods
• Pay great attention to all that affects the child’s
physical development
• We cooperate with the home to meet the needs of the
child
• We are leaders in the educational movement.
