GILDA OLVIDADO
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
 Gilda Olvidado (born on 9 August 1957 in Cebu City, Cebu)
 a Filipino movie and television writer, and melodrama novelist. Her novels have
been turned into live-action movies by VIVA Films, and also been remade for
television through Sine Novela.
 Family
 Olvidado's parents are Gregorio Tan and Guarda Olvidado. She lived and received early
education in Maranding, Lanao del Norte, Northern Mindanao. Olvidado is the wife of Ruben
Marcelino, a former editor-in-chief of Atlas Publications, with whom she had two children.
 Education
 She was a student of Chemistry at Adamson University. For two years, she took units of
Journalism at the Manuel L. Quezon University.
 Influences
 Olvidado had been influenced by Carlo J. Caparas, particularly in the field of writing
for Philippine comics.
NOTABLE WORKS
 Olvidado's first serial in Philippine comics was Cha Lee's Angels, a
comedy. Her second serial was Kapag Puso ang Nagsasakdal, a
drama.
 Olvidado decided to focus on writing drama in Philippine comics
after the satisfactory acceptance of Kapag Puso ang Nagsasakdal by
readers.
 Olvidado authored other Philippine comics novels such
as Sinasamba Kita (1982), Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin? (1984), Kung
Mahawi Man Ang Ulap (1984), Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba
Kita? (1985), Huwag Mo Kaming Isumpa (1986), Pinulot Ka Lang sa
Lupa (1987), Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig(1987), Huwag Mong
Itanong Kung Bakit (1988), Magkano ang Iyong Dangal (1988),
and Babangon Ako at Dudurgin Kita (1989)
NICOMEDES MÁRQUEZ JOAQUÍN
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
 Márquez Joaquín (May 4, 1917 – April 29, 2004)
was a Filipino writer, historian and journalist, best
known for his short stories andnovels in
the English language. He also wrote using the pen
name Quijano de Manila. Joaquin was conferred
tNicomedes he rank and title of National Artist of
the Philippines for Literature.
 He is considered one of the most important Filipino
writers in English, and the third most important
overall, after José Rizal and Claro M. Recto.
NOTABLE WORKS
 Joaquín deeply admired José Rizal, the national hero of
the Philippines. Joaquín paid tribute to him in books
such as The Storyteller's New Medium - Rizal in
Saga, The Complete Poems and Plays of Jose Rizal,
and A Question of Heroes: Essays in Criticism on Ten
Key Figures of Philippine History. He translated the
hero's valedictory poem, in the original Spanish Mi
Ultimo Adios, as "Land That I Love, Farewell!"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
 Born in 1894 in Lucena City, Quezon. Marquez - Benítez authored the first
Filipino modern English language short story, Dead Stars, published in the
Philippine Herald in 1925. Born into the prominent Marquez family of
Quezon province, she was among the first generation of Filipino people trained
in the American education system which used English as the medium of
instruction. She graduated high school in Tayabas High School now, Quezon
National High School and college from the University of the Philippines
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912. "Marquez"Benitez. She was a
member of the first freshman class of the University of the Philippines,
graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912.
NOTABLE WORKS
 Philippine short story.Though she only had one more
published short story after “Dead Stars” entitled "A Night In
The Hills", she made her mark in Philippine literature
because her work is considered the first modern
 In 1919 she founded "Woman's Home Journal", the first
women's magazine in the country.
 "Filipino Love Stories", reportedly the first anthology of
Philippine stories in English by Filipinos, was compiled in
1928 by Marquez-Benitez from the works of her students.

  • 7. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Gilda Olvidado (born on 9 August 1957 in Cebu City, Cebu)  a Filipino movie and television writer, and melodrama novelist. Her novels have been turned into live-action movies by VIVA Films, and also been remade for television through Sine Novela.  Family  Olvidado's parents are Gregorio Tan and Guarda Olvidado. She lived and received early education in Maranding, Lanao del Norte, Northern Mindanao. Olvidado is the wife of Ruben Marcelino, a former editor-in-chief of Atlas Publications, with whom she had two children.  Education  She was a student of Chemistry at Adamson University. For two years, she took units of Journalism at the Manuel L. Quezon University.  Influences  Olvidado had been influenced by Carlo J. Caparas, particularly in the field of writing for Philippine comics.
  • 8. NOTABLE WORKS  Olvidado's first serial in Philippine comics was Cha Lee's Angels, a comedy. Her second serial was Kapag Puso ang Nagsasakdal, a drama.  Olvidado decided to focus on writing drama in Philippine comics after the satisfactory acceptance of Kapag Puso ang Nagsasakdal by readers.  Olvidado authored other Philippine comics novels such as Sinasamba Kita (1982), Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin? (1984), Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap (1984), Ina, Kasusuklaman Ba Kita? (1985), Huwag Mo Kaming Isumpa (1986), Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa (1987), Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig(1987), Huwag Mong Itanong Kung Bakit (1988), Magkano ang Iyong Dangal (1988), and Babangon Ako at Dudurgin Kita (1989)
  • 10. ABOUT THE AUTHOR  Márquez Joaquín (May 4, 1917 – April 29, 2004) was a Filipino writer, historian and journalist, best known for his short stories andnovels in the English language. He also wrote using the pen name Quijano de Manila. Joaquin was conferred tNicomedes he rank and title of National Artist of the Philippines for Literature.  He is considered one of the most important Filipino writers in English, and the third most important overall, after José Rizal and Claro M. Recto.

Joaquín paid tribute to him in books such as The Storyteller's New Medium - Rizal in Saga, The Complete Poems and Plays of Jose Rizal, and A Question of Heroes: Essays in Criticism on Ten Key Figures of Philippine History. NOTABLE WORKS  Ang Manok Kong Bulik ("My White Rooster", 1911) - a poem about a country man's misfortune in cockfighting  Barong Tagalog (1921) - poem written after the Filipino national costume  Ang Pagbabalik ("Homecoming", 1924)  Ang Pamana ("The Legacy", 1925)  Isang Punongkahoy ("A Tree", 1932)  Some of his poems were set into music; among these are:  Bayan Ko ("My Country", 1929) - music by Constancio de Guzman  Pakiusap ("A Request") - music by Francisco Santiago
  • 16. ABOUT THE AUTHOR  Born in 1894 in Lucena City, Quezon. Marquez - Benítez authored the first Filipino modern English language short story, Dead Stars, published in the Philippine Herald in 1925. Born into the prominent Marquez family of Quezon province, she was among the first generation of Filipino people trained in the American education system which used English as the medium of instruction. She graduated high school in Tayabas High School now, Quezon National High School and college from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912. "Marquez"Benitez. She was a member of the first freshman class of the University of the Philippines, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1912.

NOTABLE WORKS  Philippine short story.Though she only had one more published short story after “Dead Stars” entitled "A Night In The Hills", she made her mark in Philippine literature because her work is considered the first modern  In 1919 she founded "Woman's Home Journal", the first women's magazine in the country.  "Filipino Love Stories", reportedly the first anthology of Philippine stories in English by Filipinos, was compiled in 1928 by Marquez-Benitez from the works of her students.
