3. The Ujani Dam Which is constructed On the Bhima River Basin near Ujani
Village, Solapur in Maharashtra .The construction of this dam is began in
1969 and successfully opening in June 1980. The construction cost of the
dam is 8329.6 Cr is Provided by Govt. Of Maharashtra. The Total Length
serviceable is 2534 m , Height is 56.38 m and width of dam is 6.7 m . The
dam consist of 41 spillway gates and capacity of 15717 cubic meter per
second and the total capacity of dam 110 TMC. The total catchment which
named as Yashwant Sagar is covered by Ujani dam is 14850 Sq. km. This
is composite of Earth fill and concrete Gravity Dam.
After construction of the Ujani Dam the velocity of Water in Bhima River
has reduced to greater extent. Which has lead to Severe problem of the
Silting in the basin of Ujani reservoir which is problematic such as
reduction in depth of basin and reducing the capacity of reservior.

Ujani Reservoir

5. To Collect data from water resource
department (WRD) and Hydrological
department.
To Identify reduced capacity of reservoir.
Analysis of Siltation using SWAT (Soil and
water assessment tool) .
Forecasting the quantity of siltation in next 4
decades.

7. When Ujani dam was constructed capacity of dam was 110
TMC. But now from various reports and research we have
came to know that due to silting the capacity of dam is
reduced by 12 TMC.
Which is nearly 20 percent. This is very severe condition and
no dam in Maharashtra has faced such huge problem.

8. Due to construction of Ujani Dam across the Bhima River the
velocity of water get reduced due to that siltation takes place
to greater extent. Which has lead to Severe problem of the
Silting in the basin of Ujani reservoir which is problematic
such as reduction in depth of basin and reducing the capacity
of reservoir. Hence to reduce silting, assessment of quantity of
silting and providing a solution is necessary. Ujani reservoir
has an higher flat terrain and thus have a siltation as an main
issue in the reservoir

16. Over the past 20 years, the Soil and Water
Assessment Tool (SWAT) has become widely used
across the globe.
SWAT model application has three large
hydrological and environmental research areas:
runoff simulation, non-point source pollution, and
hydrological impacts under changing
environments.

20. Latest Survey Done By an Government Agency MERI States
an Siltation of 106.39 Million Tons (301.288Mm^3) Till 2018.
Every year 0.5Mm^3 Silt is increasing in Ujani Reservoir.
Silting in Ujani Reservoir Till Nov 2023 is 109.6 Million Tons
(310.35Mm^3).
