Active Dentistry Research Paper
Smile Again with Restorative Dentistry in Eagle County Has age, constant use, or poor oral
hygiene taken its toll on your smile? Have the beautiful smile you once did with some help from
Dr. Maloley and the staff of Vail Valley Dental Care. Inlays and Onlays If you experience tooth
decay to a severe enough degree that dental fillings are not feasible, yet there is enough healthy
tooth left that a dental crown is not necessary, your tooth can be restored with the use of inlays and
onlays. Inlays and onlays are similar to dental crowns, except that these restorations do not cover
the whole tooth; rather, they restore only a portion of your natural crown. As their names indicate,
an inlay restores the interior of your tooth, while an onlay restores the exterior and cusps. Veneers...

Bad Girl Thesis
Back in 1994, popular culture was rabidly obsessed with figure skating thanks to Tonya Harding
(Margot Robbie), the bad girl who was accused of coordinating an attack on her skating rival,
Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya s skuzzy husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), had hired a friend to
intimidate Kerrigan, and the end result was a broken knee and the world famous outcry of,
Why?! I, Tonya takes a look at the players of this media circus and lets them tell their own stories
in their own words. I,Tonya feels brazenly like a Scorsese movie populated with kooky Coen

She s definitely unrepentant in the movie while at the same time asking you to view her with an
empathy that was lacking during the parade of 1990s tabloids. She s an abuse survivor who had

appreciate her, but you will understand her better. Robbie is outstanding, Janney is highly
memorable and perfectly cast, and the direction provides plenty of jolts, from electric camerawork
to the energetic propulsion through its diverging viewpoints. The dark comedy works, the serious
drama works, and the domestic violence is not trivialized with so many ironic winks. I, Tonya is
an unflinching expose that forces you to question the validity of everything. It s a movie that dares

Technology and its Impact on the Music Industry
Introduction
The creation of musical works has always been culminated by several different processes and
usually involves many people. The process takes a lot of time delaying the release of music.
Advancement in technology has played a significant role in the music production by lowering the
length of time it takes to produce recorded material. Artists usually sign a contract with a recording
company that markets their music products. The internet and low cost recording technologies have
created a do it yourself music movement. New artists have gained worldwide recognition without
landing a recording contract with a major record label.
Digital files
Digitalization, data compression, and the internet have affected the music industry significantly.
These technologies have shifted the recording industries from hard copy recordings to digital
music distribution. This has made it easier for consumers to enter the music market through
copying. Consumers have access to copying technology that allows them to obtain music without
paying the record label. The situations clipped high in 1999 when Napster, a file sharing service
was launched. The service facilitated music file sharing on a wider scale. The consumers just
download the music and transfer it to a digital music device. This has negatively affected the trade
value of music sales, for instance in

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Teaching Note Background Krispy Kreme (KKD) has achieved
spectacular growth in the last few years using an area developer model to expand geographically.
This case examines the factors that have driven its growth and their sustainability in the coming

Analysis Of The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner is a novel that is considered to be a fictional memoir throughout the life of the
main character, Amir. Starting in 1975 Afghanistan, the sentiments between the Hazaras and the
Pashtuns were very negative and violent. Afghanistan as a country was experiencing a lot of
hardships as the two main races and religions that resided in the country began to fight, eventually
leading to the war that is still going on today. As a nation, Afghanistanhas a long and interesting
history. The Kite Runner itself is written by an Afghan man, Khaled Hosseini, who himself lived in
Afghanistan throughout these years. Growing up in Kabul, Hosseini grew up in an area later to be
considered as more fortunate and more wealthy than those who lived elsewhere in the country.
Khaled s father worked as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, and his mother
worked as a persian language teacher at a high school for girls. Later on, after his father got a
job in Paris, France. Hosseini s family moved to France and were unable to return to Afghanistan
due to the saur revolution, the initial segment leading to the Afghan civil war. The Kite Runner
was written in California as Hosseini was studying in medical school, in order to become a doctor.
The book itself is fictional, however much of the occurences in the novel are influenced based upon
real life scenarios and situations that occur during parts of the war. Specifically, this is portrayed via

Compare And Contrast Aztec And Inca Empires
The Aztec and Inca Empires had similarities and differences that contributed to their individual
successes. Each Empire had different origins yet the both grew and became powerful Empires.
The Aztecs, also known as the Mexica, originated in the valley in Mexico and began as nomadic
people, moving from place to place until their powerful neighbors drove them away. Around 1325
A.D. they came upon a valley in Mexicoand settled around the surrounding lakes. The Aztecs built
the capital, Tenochtitlan, on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, and started to rapidly
expand. The Incas also expanded, originating in 1350 A.D. at the city of Cuzco which is located in
modern day Peru. When the Inca conquest was over, the Empire spread almost 3,000... Show more

The Aztec government never consolidated complete leadership over the Empire and instead relied
on a tribute system for payment. The Inca government, however, enforced strict control with harsh
punishments. The Incas also had a labor system, called Mita, that required all taxpayers to work
for a certain period in each year. Each of these systems played major roles in the longevity of the
Empires. Because the Aztecs enforced little control on its
conquered peoples, many of them joined Cortez to fight against the Aztecs, which lead to the
Aztecs decline. The Incan Empire lasted significantly longer due to the control the government had
on the people. The complexity and strict rules of the
Empire made it harder for Pizarro to conquer them.
Unlike the governments of the two Empires, the religions were extremely similar. Both Empires
were polytheistic and worshipped their sun gods above all others. Human sacrifices were
common in both civilizations to appease their various gods and goddesses. Some of these deities
included nature gods and goddesses that were believed to play a role in determining the year s
harvest.
Because both kings of these Empires were considered divine, religion was used to unify and gain
control of the people within the

Anthony Storr s A Very Short Introduction Essay
Anthony Storrs A Very Short Introduction is a book written about none other than Sigmund Freud.
Born into the Jewish religion of which he had no interest in taking part of, Freud was an
exceptional man who was very advanced, aware of his surroundings and stubborn.
This man was a psychologist, doctor of medical and the Albert Einstein of psychoanalysis if I
should say. Freud had a lot of theory s which everyone along with myself didn t quite agree with
them all.
Born on the 6th day of may in 1856, a man by the name of Sigmund Freud was not only smart;
unique in his ways as a boy. He wouldn t even sit at the dinner table with his family for supper, that
had to be done separately from them because during eating times, he ... Show more content on

During the years of 1885 1886 Freud s train of thought changed; he realized that in order for him
to understand hysteria, he would have to study psychology and not neurology. He believed that
the main characteristic of the neurotic person was a lack of normal sex, that s ironic for him to
say because not one time threw out this book did I hear him speak on his own sex life, which
would lead me to think he didn t have children if he hadn t spoken of them.
Freud beliefs of young men between the age of four five in the phallic stage being sexually
interested in their mother and aggression towards the father is by far bizarre and disturbing to me.
It seems that everything that had to do with neurology in somewhat way lead back to some form
of sex or sexuality. In 1892 Freud stopped doing hypnotist practices and changed to free association
in order to increase his understanding of neurosis theory.
This man believed every symbol in ones dream had to do with something of sex, umbrellas were the
symbols of the penis, purse s were the symbols of the vagina. Truly don t understand how he came
to that consumption but never the less he was unique in his own way of thought. In one instance
Freud became upset when he realized that his patents were emotionally attached to him during their
sessions, his first though was that it was an erotic attachment. Even though Freud

President Obama Hated On Friday Essay
President Obama hated on Friday what he called a Republican (series of actions to reach a goal) to
deny voting rights to millions of Americans as he stepped up efforts to motivate and excite his
political base heading into a competitive midterm campaign season.
Appearing at the once a year convention of the Rev. Al Sharptons National Action Network in
Manhattan, Mr. Obama (charged with a crime) Republicans of trying to rig the elections by making
it harder for older people, women, minorities and the make extremely poored to cast ballots in
swing states that could decide/figure out control of the Senate.
The right to vote is threatened today in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act
became law nearly fifty years ago, Mr. Obama said in a hotel large room (for dancing) filled with
cheering supporters, most of them African American. Across the country, Republicans have led
efforts to pass laws making it harder, not easier, for people to vote.
Speaking a day after a (meeting to discuss things/meeting together) in Texas remembering (with
honor) the 50th (yearly recognition or celebration) of the Civil Rights Act, Mr. Obama linked the
issue to the movement that helped pave the way for him to become the nation s first black president.
America did not stand up and did not march and did not sacrifice to gain the right to vote for
themselves and for others only to see it denied to their kids and their (children of children), he said.

Transformational Leadership Enhances Employee Motivation
Introduction
It is far too common in potentially successful businesses, that high ranking executives feel the need
to assert power over their peers. Dictatorship within a business setting often leads to a higher rate of
employee turnover, and has the ability to impede on organizational productivity. Throughout this
paper, I will note several studies that have proven that transformational leadership boosts employee
motivation. Unlike transactional leadership, the transformational leader promotes a basis of mutual
respect among all coworkers, regardless of rank. True leadership means being open to organizational
change in order to foster positivity. By consistently making an effort to improve employee morale, a
true leader quietly nurtures motivation, shifting the hardest working employees in to the best fit
positions, offering praise and encouragement along the way.
The Transformational Leader
Authoritative figures in organizations large and small have inadvertently been faced with the
decision to choose a leadership style. One method, which proves beneficial to most companies, is
transformational leadership. This leadership style implicates a close, positive relationship between
the leader and the follower. In these types of professional relationships, it is important to note that
the leader sincerely cares for the subordinate s best interest (Men, 2010.) It has been proven that the
transformational leader prevails by consistently inspiring and motivating peers, fostering

Connection Themes In Fury And The Water Diviner
Connection EssayThe significant connection idea between my four texts is the theme of solders
fighting for their country. Soldiers back then were all fighting for their countries, they were all
wanting there country to win and did anything to make sure there country had the lead. The texts
that we picked was Fury directed by David Ayer, The Water Diviner directed by Russell Crowe,
The Prologue by Michel King and Hongi Hika: Badass of the week by Ben Thompson and the
movie I selected was The Dead Lands by Toa Fraser. The soldiers had to risk their lives to protect
their land and make sure that there country had the upper hand. In fury the American solders got
put into tanks and was put forward to fight the Germans. In the movie Fury directed by David
Ayer. There is a long shot of Norman when he is told to kill a German that is sitting right in front
of him with no intentions and no understanding of what is going on, of course he is very reluctant
to kill him. Standing right behind him is Wardaddy he is very angary and wants Norman to kill the
German very urgently and after a while of anger and pushing Norman, Wardaddy eventually holds
the gun with Norman and shoots the German. After Norman shot the German he was very shocked
and distraught, Wardaddy had a talk to Norman about why he had to such a thing. Norman learnt

Use Of Isolation In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
It is during long periods of isolation that the true character of an individual is revealed. In his text,
The Painted Door , Sinclair Ross reiterates this message through his protagonist, Ann. Her
isolations are depicted in numerous forms, as a physical isolation from other neighbours, a mental
isolation, and an isolation within her marriage. Ross has successfully illustrated the concept of
isolation having a detrimental impact on the human spirit. The setting represents the physical
aspect of isolation in the story. .... the long white miles of prairie landscape seemed a region
strangely alien to life. [ ] the distant farmsteads she could see served only to intensify a sense of
isolation. (Ross 1) This is the tangible form that isolation... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the various forms of isolation that have made their marriage the focus of outside forces. In the
distance, sky and prairie now were merged into one another linelessly. All round her it was
gathering; already in its press and whimpering there strummed a boding of eventual fury. (Ross 5)
This is where the physical isolation and the mental isolation merge to form the storm or the Steven
that would bring about the end of their marriage. The isolation of communication has cost them

Causes Of The Treaty Of Versailles In Germany
In 1919, after World War I, a representative from England (Lloyd George), Italy (Orlando), France
(Clemenceau) and the US (Woodrow Wilson) came together, agreeing that Germany was at fault
for the cost of the damage that world war one had caused and drafted the Treaty of Versailles. The
main terms of the Treaty were:
That the starting of World War One was Germanys fault
The amount of 6,600 million pounds was to be paid by Germany for the damage the war caused
Germany s army was restructured to a small army with only six naval ships.
Germany had land taken from them and give to other countries.
Germany itself was in hardship due to World War One. Although they were forced to accept the
blame, the country was very poor, jobs were hard to find, food and basic goods were too costly.
The people of Germany were unhappy and thus put their trust in the power of a man who promised
to defend them against the Treaty of Versailles. This man was Adolf Hitler. In 1993 Adolf Hitler
became the Chancellor of Germany. Hitler s actions:
Built up an army, increasing it s weapons size, warships and the air force. He also introduced
compulsory military service. All of this was done in attempted secrecy to the other countries.
The rise of communism was real to the European nations. France and Britain, although aware of the
actions of Hitler, thought Germany may help prevent this rise of communism in the West.
In 1936, Hitler made alliances with Italy and Japan.

Teens In YA Literature
YA Literature has been around since the 19th century. During that time books for
children and teens were about the right morals and their religion. It was thought that children s
and teens should not be exposed to fictional stories. Then later down the years, YA Literature
developed into something else in the 1960s. According to Ashley Strickland, a reporter for CNN,
the term young adult was coined by Young Adult Library Services Association during the
1960s to represent the 12 18 age range . YA Literature is targeted at teens around this age.
Also, in regards to this article, these books were single problem novels and teens were

books about fiction or more like paranormal and dystopian stories? Well Teens are caught
between two worlds, childhood and adulthood, and in YA, they can navigate those two worlds
and sometimes dualities of other worlds (Strickland). They can imagine what could ve

The Relationship Between Bilingual Education And...
Bilingual education involves the practice of teaching non English speaking learners in their native
language, while they are learning English. The academic content is taught in both the native
language and a secondary language. Program models for bilingual education determine the varying
allotted time for each language. It is often a complex array of school programs with different goals
and objectives for varying student populations (Bybee Henderson, 2014).
Multiculturalism, on the other hand, is the diversity of cultures; racial and religious, that exist in
society and the acceptance of customary behaviors, ways of thinking and ways of communicating
(Burdick Will Gomez, 2006). Multiculturalism is often contrasted with the concept of assimilation
and has been described as a melting pot . This paper will examine the history and current political
trends of both bilingual education and multiculturalism. The distinct aspects of, and the
relationship between bilingual education and multiculturalism will be discussed and conclude with
modern day trends.
Bilingual education in the United States public school system has a long standing social and
political history that has been plagued by debates about its goals and effectiveness. The policies
have typically been informed by theory aimed at identifying the best methods to provide
English instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs), and research on bilingual education
program effectiveness. However, perceptions about

very prosperous city of Galveston in 1900. Throughout the book you are told the events leading up

the devastation of this horrific storm. This story begins with the introduction of Mr. Isaac Cline, a
well educated Tennessee native, who served as the Chief Meteorologist in Galveston, Texas
during the late 1800 s. Isaac and his Wife Cora May, as well as their four kids, lived in their
newly built storm proof home alongside the Galveston Coast. Isaac took an interest in how
weather affected people s health, and did so alongside his ever eager brother, Joseph. During Isaac

weather today. Galveston, being a bountiful city, had the money to put into public works that would

Sleary And Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism, a philosophy that values the happiness of the general population above the
happiness of an individual, ironically caused more than its fair share of sorrow. Thriving in the
Industrial Revolution s environment of corrupt businessmen, lethargic politicians, and draconian
educators, utilitarianism seeks only quantifiable results, abandoning emotion and imagination in
favor of facts. With its opening exclamation of Facts, facts, facts! Charles Dickens immediately
makes it clear that Hard Times intends to critique the flawed obsessions of utilitarianism. Most
notably, he introduces the Gradgrinds of Coketown, an unmistakable product of a society gone
dreadfully wrong. Look no further than Mr. Gradgrind, Dicken s personification... Show more

Gradgrind, in order to provide better context for the ideological conflict between Sleary s Circus
and utilitarianism. While Dickens conspicuously decorates the circus people with fairytale imagery,
he only seems to arrange these imaginative descriptions around Gradgrind in a situation where it
would highlight his differences. A prime example of this situation is when Gradgrind reminisces the
method he taught his children, annunciating that the first object of which they had remembrance
was a large blackboard with a dry Ogre chalking ghastly white figure on it. Not that they knew, by
name or by nature, anything about an Ogre. Fact forbid! Though not spoken in reference to Sleary s
circus, Dickens elaborates on the relationship between the circus people and the Gradgrinds. On one
hand, the circus people readily embrace imagination, it being part of their nature. On the other hand,
when Gradgrind even contemplates an ogre, he is greatly disconcerted. Furthermore, Gradgrind s
thought process further delineates the mindset of those infatuated with the facts, facts, facts,
philosophy. As evident from Dicken s abundant use of fairytale imagery, Sleary s circus symbolizes
both imagination and childhood, neither of which appeal to straitlaced ideals of

The Mexican Culture And The Day Of The Dead
The experimentation and research that delves into the mind, social interactions, and the history of
social cultures can all relate to why peoples and groups partake in certain social cultural practices.
Psychology relates to the study of the human mind. It also studies the brain s functions and uses
said functions to explain behavior. Sociologypertains to societies throughout time, being defined
as the study of development, structure, and functioning of human societies. Anthropology is
defined as the study of human societies and cultures and their development. These three fields
of study work to explain behavior and its causes. As popular cultural practices and followings
come and go, it is best to use reliable scientific means to attempt to explain the seemingly
ridiculous behaviors of those who partake in particular pop culture habits. While some social
interactions are silly, such as the obsession with celebrities, some may end up being useful for
society. One such useful practice is the celebration of the Day of the Dead. The Mexican culture
relating to the Day of the Dead celebrations prove to be useful interactions and practices. In
Mexican culture, the Day of the Dead is a lively celebration often observed from November 1st
until November 2nd. What is often misunderstood as a gruesome exaggeration of deathis, in reality,
a wondrous celebration of lives, though passed. From the outside, onlookers view this celebration

Isolation In Passengers

mostly from the critics. But for me, I enjoyed this film a lot more than I expected. I walked out of
the theater with a smile on my face. First of all, the acting is really good in this film. Chris Pratt
kills his role and leads the movie. He gave a good performance and a good balance of humor and
the emotion of isolation. Jennifer Lawrence s character was fine. Her acting was good. She gave
a lot of emotional expressions as well as her back story. But I would have liked to see her character
more of her potential. Michael Sheen s character was also pretty good. He is an android in this

The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood...
The Heroic Significance of Christ in The Dream of the Rood
Incorporating traditional Anglo Saxon beliefs of heroism with the image of Christ on the cross
allows the poet of The Dream of the Rood to effectively communicate the benefits of Christianity
to pagan warriors. By comparing characteristics, duties, and treatment of heroes in Beowulf and
the Battle of Maldon to the depiction of Christ in The Dream of the Rood, it becomes evident that
the image of Christ is altered to mirror that of heroic warriors. Through this melding of heroic
beliefs and Christianity, the poet of Rood is able to show how Christ can become the ultimate ring
giver or Lord.

The Christ depicted in this passage willingly accepts his battle on the cross and because of this
act the poet then goes on to describe Christ as a warrior , strong, and stouthearted. Christ is not
portrayed as a meek and humble man resigned to his task as savior and lord. Within this portion of
the text, he becomes a bold warrior climbing the cross as if going into battle. At the end of the
poem, the narrator looks to Christ and the cross for protection.
Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and
weaponry. Beowulf fulfills this duty by stating Behold this treasure #8230; that I have been
allowed to leave my people #8230; (Beowulf 91) to Wiglaf after defeating the dragon. The
warriors in The Battle of Maldon describe their Lord and hero as a treasure giver, and also a ring
giver. The warriors in both of these texts reflect on all that their lords or heroes provide for them.
It is through this gratification for material wealth that kinsmen feel so indebted to fighting for
their lord. Wiglaf illustrates this concept when he remembers the bountiful gifts bestowed upon
him (Beowulf 88) and finds that he could not hold back (Beowulf 88) from his lord s side. Christ
also fulfills this duty of a hero by bestowing many wonderful gifts and treasures upon any man who
will follow Him faithfully. The treasures described in the poem

Essay On The Eagles
One of the greatest bands has been put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and they are

Differences Between Informal Logic, And Theoretical...
Introduction
Philosophy is commonly divide to theoretical and practical.Theoretical philosophy is sometimes
confused with analytic philosophy, but the second is a philosophical movement, embracing certain
ideas and methods but dealing with all philosophical subject matters, while theoretical philosophy is
a way of sorting philosophical questions into two different categories in the context of a
curriculum. The topics included in theoretical philosophy are metaphysics/ontology, philosophy of
language, epistemology, philosophy of mind, and logic.
Through studies in theoretical philosophy, it provides an introduction to human reasoning and the
knowledge relating to it, and its different fields support each other. The studies will gain systematic

Natural language here means a language that is spoken, written or signed by humans for general
purpose communication, as distinguished from formal languages (such as computer programming
languages) or constructed languages (such as Esperanto).
It focuses on the reasoning and argument one finds in personal exchange, advertising, political
debate, legal argument, and the social commentary that characterizes newspapers, television, the
Internet and other forms of mass media
Symbolic Logic
Symbolic Logic is the study of symbolic abstractions that capture the formal features of logical
inference. It explains and deals with the relations of symbols to each other, often using complex
mathematical calculus, in an attempt to solve difficult problems traditional formal logic is not able
to address.Symbolic logic is often divided into two sub branches:
Predicate Logic
Predicate Logic allows sentences to be analysed into subject and argument in several different
ways. Predicate Logic is also able to give an account of quantifiers general enough to express all
arguments occurring in natural language, thus allowing the solution of the problem of multiple
generality that had perplexed medieval

The Stability of an interconnected power systemSmall...
The stability of an interconnected power system is the ability of the system to return to its normal
or stable condition after having been subjected to some form of disturbance. With the
interconnected systems continually increasing in size and extending over whole geographical
regions, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain synchronism between various parts
of the power system. This paper work presents an advanced adaptive Particle swarm optimization
technique to optimize the SVC controller parameters for enhancement of the steady state stability
overcoming the premature convergence stagnation problems as in basic PSO algorithm Particle
swarm optimizationwith shrinkage factor inertia weight approach (PSO SFIWA). In this paper
SMIB system along with PID damped SVC controller is considered for study. The generator
speed deviation is used as an auxiliary signal to SVC, to generate the desired damping. This
controller improves the dynamic performance of power system by reducing the steady state error.
The controller parameters are optimized using basic PSO, PSO SFIWA Advanced Adaptive PSO.
Computational results show that Advanced Adaptive based SVC controller is able to find better
quality solution as compare to conventional PSO PSO SFIWA Techniques.

The Seven Wonders of Ancient World Essay
There are seven most remarkable structures of ancient times and I m going to write about four
out of the seven. The statue of Zeus, which was created in 432 B.C., by Phidius, the lighthouse
Of Alexandria that was created by Sostratus in 290 B.C. and took 20 years to complete. The
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus that was first created in 800 B.C. by Croesus and the Mausoleum
at Halicarnassus that was built around 353 and 350 B.C. These are only four out of the seven
wonders I will be writing about who commissioned and created each one of them. How they were
built, where they were located, when was it constructed, why they were considered one of the seven

The Lighthouse of Alexandria was located in Alexandria, Egypt the Pharos was actually located
on the tiny limestone island that sat in front of the harbor, it was built on the island of Pharos, to
help guide trade ships into the harbor at Alexandria (Woods). The Lighthouse was constructed in
290 BC and took 20 years to complete, it also was the first lighthouse as well as the tallest
building in the world at the time, except for the Great Pyramid and that is also why it was
considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Lighthouse stood and used until 2
earthquakes, in 1303 and 1323, reduced it to rubble. In 1994, underwater archaeologists located
some of the remains of the lighthouse in the Alexandrian Harbor, and more have recently been
located using remote imaging. Some remains of the Pharos were also used in the construction of
Fort Qaitbey in the 15th century (Curlee), which stands on the very same spot today. Cherisiphron

Convergence and International Corporate Governance
Find and summarise (in no more than 1000 words) some of the work that has been done by
Katherine Pistor and others on Convergence, Divergence and В‘Path Dependency of legal systems
as it relates to International Corporate Governance. In recent years the issue of corporate
governance has become a keenly debated topic in international finance. In developed countries,
some of the biggest corporate collapses in history have brought about a change in focus. No longer
are governments and lawmakers trying to deregulate and reduce the controls and disclosure
requirements of corporations. The deregulation boom has ended, as regulation comes back into the

Thus the rules which have helped these corporations to prosper will be perpetuated. This in turn
makes the interest group stronger and allows for continued divergence. Bebchuk and Roe accept
that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of
the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance
systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level.
Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue
in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the
complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was
that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal
solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in
many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a
long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell
us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of
divergence is undeniable. The importance of path dependency in determining the corporate

An Evaluation Of A Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Essay
During my rotation in the operating room at Community medical center, I observed the
preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for a patient who underwent a laparoscopic
hysterectomy. I believe that an appropriate preoperative plan of care for this patient would have
included a full physical exam and an interview for patient history, a pelvic exam to look over and
understand the nature of the patient s complications, bloodtesting including a CBC and WBC to
note any signs of infection or contraindications for the procedure, and a urine test to rule out any
urinary tract infections or pregnancy. It would be important to interview the patient and ask
questions to determine how the patient is feeling about their procedure and to better assist with
any anxiety or pain they may be dealing with preoperatively. It is important to consult with the
patient well before the procedure to ensure that she knows to refrain from smoking for at least 8
weeks before the procedure because this reduces the risks of complications such as infections,
issues with blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow, and respirations when under anesthesia, and
promoting overall health and risks associated with smoking after the procedure. (ASAHQ) It is also
important to educate the patient to consume no food or drinks after midnight the night before the
scheduled procedure. (Health Communities) During my rotation I observed that the patient did
indeed have labs drawn and a urine test run. Her lab

The Boston Massacre was an encounter on March 5, 1770, that was five years before the
American Revolution between British troops and a group of citizens of Boston that were then in
the Massachusetts Bay Colony. British troops were quartered in the city to discourage
demonstrations. As a result of constant harassment by the citizens, a squad of British soldiers that
had been struck by snow and ice balls with rocks inside thrown during a demonstration, fired into
the crowd, killing five men. The eight soldiers and their commanding officer were tried for murder
and were defended by John Adams, later president of the United States, and Josiah Quincy. Two of
the soldiers were declared guilty of manslaughter, and the others, including the officer, were
acquitted. The incident was skillfully exploited by the American patriot Samuel Adamsto create anti

Our Town
Our Town by Thornton Wilder continues to be a timeless theatrical work performed pervasively
throughout the world. This play remains a modern classic due to Wilder s ingenuity in capturing
the quintessential expression of the life cycle. Wilder segmented his play into three acts; each act
broadly encompassing a different phase in a person s life. The play presents the audience with
situations parallel to the ones almost everyone faces during their lifetime. This, in conjunction
with breaking the fourth wall, allows for the audience to feel a part of the performance. The title
of the play itself lends to this feeling, for it is not my town or your town, but it s Our Town. This
play emphasizes the idea that in the grand scheme of things, all... Show more content on

A second option is to try out different formats and arenas to hold a Cirque Lite show in North
American markets in order to appeal to a new audience that may not be willing to pay high ticket
prices. But, this will dilute the brand and the associations already built in the loyal customers
minds. A third option is to appeal is to a broader audience in all current markets using Cirque s
multimedia division to launch television specials that can serve as commercials for Cirque s value
proposition. The TV specials will allow broader audiences to see the value of the experience and
will give Cirque employees a break from constant touring. However, Cirque cannot bring the brand
to a broader audience without customer research into discount preferences and types of
entertainment they seek out. So, Cirque will need to conduct research to help it understand how
best structure its pricing and strengthen its value proposition to create meaningful experiences for
audiences that set Cirque further apart from competitors and complementors. The TV special
strategy will also serve well in the future when going to new markets to attract an audience.
Therefore, Cirque should pursue this option to build its brand presence in current and new market
and to attract a broader audience.

Both friends and authorities believe the darkest influence of all was his 26 year old brother,
Tamerlan, who is said to have been both a father figure for him and the driving force behind the
attack.
Unlike his quiet younger sibling, who became a US citizen on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11
attack on the World Trade Center, Tamerlan was fiery and theatrical.
He was a flashy, eccentric fellow, said Eddie Bishop, a boxing trainer who moved in the same
amateur fighting circles as Tamerlan. Mr Bishop recalled an occasion in 2009 when he came into
the ring in cowboy hat, boots and leather trousers. I saw him as someone who had a lot of ability
but lacked the stillness and confidence of a fighter s heart, he said.
Over time, Tamerlan swapped his gaudy outfits for a growing religious fervor and once casual
references to his Muslim faith evolved into prayer mats in the gym and constant talk of Islam.

Analyse and Compare the Significance and Effectiveness of...
It is a common view that the opening and ending of a novel is considered the most memorable
and pertinent. Therefore, both authors, Ishiguro and Atwood, utilise openings and endings in
their novels significantly. The opening of a novel plays a major part in establishing the tone of
what is to come, with the ending leaving a lasting, final impression on the reader. The security of
the first person narration in Never Let Me Go encourages the reader to engage with Kathy H in
order to destroy our relationship at the end. This disillusionment serves to anger the reader and
fuel our sense of disappointment. Never Let Me Go ends in uncertainty as Kathy drives away still

Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the
beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly
nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about
what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym
guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening
being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve
a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in
what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency
centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is
confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The
first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium
represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by
the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt
skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a
means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the
setting achieve

The Effects of Scientific Racism on Black Women Essay
The Effects of Scientific Racism on Black Women
Scientific racism has been used to oppress, enslave and to justify torture. In my essay I will
explore how scientific racism has been used to detriment the health of women of colour.
Throughout history women of colour have been experimented upon, sexualized and
reproductively abused with scientific racism as justification or the underlying premise for the
thought behind this abuse. I will explore this idea using examples throughout various periods of
history, as well I will show the contemporary effects. First, I will look at the enslavement of
Africans in the New World. During this period women of African descent were raped and abused.
They were deemed as sexual beings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These science based eugenic influences break through the lines of science in to the world of
politics, promulgating anti humanistic views of poor women of colour in the form of legislation
fraught with bigotry and baseless generalizations. This political view flows through the judicial
system, as courts apply eugenic philosophies in determining who should be sterilized and for what
reasons.
Black feminists have investigated how rape as a specific form of sexual violence is embedded in a
system of interlocking race, gender, and class oppression (Davis 1978, 1981, 1989; Hall 1983).
Reproductive rights issues such as access to information on sexuality and birth control, the
struggles for abortion rights, and patterns of forced sterilization have also garnered attention
Examining the links between sexuality and power in a system of interlocking race, gender, and class
oppression should reveal how important controlling Black women s sexuality has been to the
effective operation of domination overall. The words of Angela Davis, Audre Lorde, Barbara
Smith, and Alice Walker provide a promising foundation for a comprehensive Black feminist
analysis.

Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table
Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table In this report, we have critically
evaluated an article published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies entitled Disaster
Response Leadership: Perception of American Red Cross Workers (Wheeler, Weeks Montgomery,
2013). This article was chosen because it is directly related to the topic of module 2: Leadershipand
Leadership Theories.
Research Evaluation Table
Research Topic
Leadership is an important aspect of management sciences. Over the past century, many theories
have been developed to provide managers with the tools required to effectively lead their
subordinates. From a simplistic theory cataloguing individual traits and characteristics, leadership
has become a complex science shaped by many forces (ex: behavioural sciences, organizational
culture, strategic management trends etc.) (Avolio, Walumba and Weber, 2009).
Problem or Management Dilemma
Recent traumatic events have put forward a new field of study within leadership theory: crisis
leadership. Like Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.79) points out: many leaders have been
criticised how they have responded to a crisis situation, but little is known about how leaders must
adapt their leadership style within crisis management. In order to understand this problem, Wheeler,
Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.80) highlights that the study of various crisis organizations could
provide the conceptual framework to better understand how one can

A Brief History of the Berlin Wall Essay
The Berlin Wall
Walls are one of man s oldest defenses; physical barriers that are erected to keep people out, or,
in some cases, to keep them in. Walls are physical fortifications that create tension and distain
among people on both sides. This is what the Berlin Wall, or der Mauer in German, was; a
physical barrier created in Berlin, Germany during the Cold War. It was created by the East
Germans in an attempt to stop East German citizens from immigrating to Western Germany.
However, the Berlin wall was a crude attempt to separate the political and social variances in
Germany during the Cold War, because, while it created a physical barrier, it still was unable
separate people in an ethic manor.
Notably, before the walls creation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physically it was a 13ft high wall topped with barbed wire which extended 27 miles through the
center of the city (Raichelle). This large barrier came equipped with guards, and only had a
small gate termed Checkpoint Charlie, which was reserved for military and diplomatic use between
the two sides (Tucker). The wall was the tall divider of people; of families and friends, as it was
created to keep people from leaving.
After its construction, The Wall separated the two sides, but also created more issues than it
solved. For instance, between 1961 and 1989, the East German guards shoot to kill order against
refugees resulted in about 250 300 deaths ( Berlin Wall ). Those killed were most likely the
artisans who desired to leave in the first place, or the people who were separated from their
families in the initial construction of the Wall. Seeing as it also stretched through the center of
the city, anyone caught on the wrong side was trapped there. They were stuck, forced to spend
their days separated. If they attempted to leave, they could become part of the 200 people who
were shot dead while attempting to scale the wall (Raichelle). However, despite this, thousands of
East Germans still managed to escape across the barrier ( Cold War ). They left East Germanyfor
the West; as the West had different ideals that allowed these citizens to have more freedoms.

Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivor
As war broke out in Europe during 1939, no one could either imagine or believe the terror that
Adolf Hitler would soon bring to the lives of Jewish people. Drawing from his paranoia and a
drive for a world Nazi power, Hitler singled out the Jews as the cause for problems in Germany
and began to carry out his plan for the destruction of a part of humanity. Hitler not only persecuted
the Jews of Germany, but he also targeted the Jews in Poland and other parts of Europe, such as

Moesh solemnly told Elie of what really went on in Galicia; after exiting the trains, the Jews
were forced to dig massive graves and then wait in line to be murdered. Even children were tossed

and presumed dead.
During the following days and nights, Moesh spread his story throughout the community in an
effort to warn his people of the impending terror, but no one believed him. Some said, He s just

The Jews not only denied the warnings of Moesh, but also disbelieved that Hitler planned to

methods could he use? And in the middle of the twentieth century! 3 Other reports indicate that the
Jews did not believe that Hitler s attempted genocide was occurring. Newspaper articles about the

incomprehensible; many believed that the deportees were sent away to do agricultural work, but

The Definition Of Public Relations Essay
Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations
Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation s
relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship
building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as The deliberate,
planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an
organisation and its publics. This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of
public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship
Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This
will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory s meanings as well as relationships with
aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must
first be addressed.
Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages.
(Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders,
political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics,
geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). Grunig and Repper (1992) expand on this saying publics
are self formed and identify organisations for attention, essentially meaning publics are groups of
people linked by a common interest or problem. PR practitioners according to (Gordon,

really was for five black, young boys from Compton. Straight Outta Compton is based on the rise
and fall of the rap group N.W.A.
The acting in this film is memorable. There are especially two actors who deserve recognition.

Straight Outta Compton is about the legendary rap group N.W.A, and their journey from being
young, ambitious boys in the streets of Compton to become world renowned artists.
The film naturally has a lot of good music, and Joseph Trapanese has done a good job of mixing
N.W.A music and other songs, both contemporary and newer, into the film. The music is best when
we get to enter the studio and watch the artist s record songs.
Fuck Tha Police became one of N.W.A s most famous songs, and the film tells the story of how
this song originated. We get a historical insight into the Los Angeles Police s view of blacks in
the 80 s and 90 s. Straight Outta Compton is as much a socially critical movie as a biographical
film, and this is one of the film s biggest strengths.
Songs like Express Yourself, Fuck Tha Police and Straight Outta Compton provoked many, but they
also created attention around a new music genre, and the group was a tremendous success. In
addition, they became a great inspiration for several great

Medical Model Research Paper
To start, addiction is defined as the ongoing use of mood altering substances, such as alcohol and
drugs, despite adverse consequences (Morse Flavin, 1997). From the year zero, addiction has been
a rising crisis all over the world. As long as addiction as been around so have the ideas of whether
or not addictionis a choice or a disease. In this paper, I will discuss the medical model which
provides supporting information as to how it is possible that addiction is in fact a mental illness.
I will also discuss the opposing view stating that addiction is a choice and that addicts are not
sick . The medical model argues that The disease of chemical dependency can be traced to neural
pathways in the brain predating a diagnosis of addiction (Angres, 2001). The opposing view argues
that the free willed first decision to first try the drugis the foundation for the stigma that addiction
is a choice. Because of the two drastically opposing views, it is important to be more informed about

One theory that describes are the sociological theories. This tells us that deviant behaviors, such
as crime and illegal drug use, are learned within a social context (differential association) in
which groups define the behaviors as good. Drugs use and its pleasurable effects are learned
from subcultures with which the individual becomes afflicted. Many people are taught to use
and abuse. There is a drastic increase in the likelihood of abuse if they grow in a specific social
class. This is best explained by the social learning theory which tells us that we learn from what
we observe. If we see people committing crimes, abusing drugs they will likely follow suit. Social
conditions play an important role in the etiology of addiction. Like the broken windows theory, the
will to use or commit crime will be lower because the knowledge and influences will be

However, within a given country, it is still the richest people who consume the diet highest in fat.1
The sharply reduced cost of vegetable oils has been the main reason for increased fat consumption
worldwide.1 Technologic advances in high yield oil seeds and in the refining of high quality
vegetable oils have greatly reduced the cost of baking and frying fats, margarine and other table
spreads, and salad and cooking oils. The production and export of vegetable oils, not only in the
United States but also in Europe, South East Asia (palm oils), and South America (soybean oils)
are promoted through direct subsidies, credit guarantees, food aid, and market development
programs. By the 1990s, soybean oil represented 70% of the production and consumption of
edible oils and fats in the United States and now accounts for one third of vegetable oil
consumption worldwide.1,2 At this time, at US retail prices, vegetable oil delivers approximately
5000 calories per dollar spent. Wealth used to be associated with increased sugar consumption.2
However, sugar has become plentiful and cheap. World sugar consumption in 1999 and 2000 is
forecast at a record 130.1 million tons, almost 4% above the previous year s level. Growth trends
in sugar consumption were interrupted in the mid 1990s as п¬Ѓnancial

Renaissance Art Movement Paper
The history of drawing in the Italian Renaissance developed throughout the years to be considered
an art in its own right. This new movement was originated and centered in Italy. Throughout the
course of history, the limited accessibility to paper helped to mold and develop the medium and
material in which artists used to draw. During the course of the Italian Renaissanceartists
improvised ways to express their art and emotions by using materials other than paper.
Due to the fact that the technology for making paper from wood pulp was not discovered until the
middle of the 19th century, the production of paper required cloth rags in large quantity. This type
of production of paper was expensive and consider to be a luxury commodity. Because

Reflective Essay On Social Work
As a senior, I thought this was the perfect time to get an in depth look at a career field that I was
considering. The main reason I decided to take a career internship was to be exposed to a side of
business that I had not been previously and to see if it is something I may want to pursue. The
spring semester included interning at the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber
of
Commerce is located on East Market Street in Elkin, North Carolina. The timeof the internship
period was mid day from 11:30 A.M to 1:00 P.M. This time frame allowed me to be exposed to
many lunch meetings that took place. My mentor, Myra Cook, is the president of the Chamber of
Commerce. Her role is to help businesses succeed and to promote them to the town of Elkin. At the
Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, many valuable skills were learned such as: filing, how to
make contacts with different businesses, and planning different community events. In the future, I
want to major in non profit management and social work with hopes of opening my own non
profit someday. My non profit organization would focus on teaching people who did not receive a
proper education learn job and interview skills and help them enter the workforce.
When first arriving at the Chamber of Commerce, the first thing that is done is filing the new
paperwork, bills, and receipts. Throughout the day, typical duties include answering phone calls and
helping travellers that come in to the chamber. These travellers typically ask

Abstract:
In a global economy, mining the opinion relations between opinion targets and opinion words was
the key to collective extraction. To this end, the most adopted techniques have been nearest
neighbor rules and syntactic patterns. To improve the performance of these methods, we can
specially design exquisite, high precision patterns. However, with an increase in corpus size, this
strategy is likely to miss more items and has lower recall. In this paper proposes a novel approach
based on the partially supervised alignment model, which regards identifying opinion relations as an
alignment process. Compared to the traditional unsupervised alignment model, the proposed model
obtains better precision because of the usage of partial supervision. Compared to syntax based
methods, our word alignment model effectively alleviates the negative effects of parsing errors
when dealing with informal online texts. The objective is to propose a method based on a
monolingual Word alignment model (WAM). An opinion target can find its corresponding modifier
through word alignment. In addition, the WAM can integrate

Thomas Edison Discovers Light
Thomas Edison Discovers Light Have you ever wondered who made light and where it came
from? Have you wondered what light is? Well, I am here to tell you about the man who not only
created light, but also taught many people how to use it in the future. That man was Thomas
Alva Edison. He was inspired by many things, but the wonders of light really amazed him; he
even thought about how light worked and how he could make it. People might say that Thomas
was inspired by how light was so fascinating and what it can do. That is just too simple he was
really inspired by the complexity of it and how he can help other people by making light. Now, this
is something that is not so simple, but he not only created light, he created many other things. Let
me first tell you about his life.
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was from a family of nine; out
of the seven children, he was the youngest. His parents were Samuel and Nancy Edison and they
stayed in Milan, where he spent most of his childhood. For his education, he went to the Cooper
Union. At one point people considered him a difficult child, so he was home schooled. He had very
little education but he was taught reading, writing, and arithmetic. When he had free time, he
would read scientific and technical books.
Thomas credited his mother for his success he said My mother was the making of me . Before he
went to school, he worked as a newspaper carrier and a telegrapher; he would deliver

The Biofuel Industry
Biofuels have been used as a source of energy for thousands of years. Wood was the first biofuel
to be used as a means to create fires for cooking. Since that time we have discovered numerous
ways to use them and the various forms of biofuels that are available for use. Presently our use of
biofuels consists largely of additives to gasoline in the form of ethanol. Ethanol is found in almost
all of our gasoline products today, in which about 10% is typically mixed as an additive. Some gas
stations are now offering nearly pure ethanol fuelknown as E85 which is 85% ethanol. This makes
ethanol the most common biofuelused worldwide. In response to this, farmers around the world
have increased biofuel plant production as a means to meet the new growing demand for it. As
time goes on, more modern farming practices are expected to continue to increase the output at
which farmers can grow corn and other ethanol producing plants thereby fueling the biofuel gas
industry. With more resources available to use, ethanol will be an even cheaper additive than it is
now.
Biofuels as a whole are made up of a large variety of organisms or their byproducts, leaving a
multiple of sources to choose from. This is what makes biofuel energy an attractive source of fuel
for the future. One company named Algenol is leading the world in algae research development
that they claim will revolutionize the biofuel industry completely. They are working on having
algae produce ethanol directly

This is also how we can use this test as an identifier for certain compounds.
Conclusion:
In the experiment, I set up the 24 plate well, and added each solution one by one while keeping
track of which liquid was in which well. I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my
make shift cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton
off the swab and wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a
second or two before waving it through the flame.
I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I
repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium,
as it was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by
taking my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut
the pipets open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due
to frequent use.

The Cure For Anything Is Salt Water
As Isak Dinesen famously states in Seven Gothic Tales, The cure for anything is salt water tears,
sweat, or the sea. Paradoxically, since the days of ancient creation epics, the sea has been a
symbol of chaos and danger; clearly, water takes on these characteristics in the terrifying ocean
in The Awakening and in the river that swallows Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Yet for each
major character in the two novels, water yields lucidity in its wake; it is the cure that brings
closure to each story and enlightenment to each woman. Water, in many forms, affects every
major character in [oh god what s a synonym for the two novels ]. Fears of submersion,
overpowering tears, visions of deep sea creatures, and baptismal deaths all seep into the pages of
the two novels. In some cases, water is clearly something to be avoided; take, for example, Laura
Brown s reluctance to begin her tasks as a housewife in the morning. She must [summon]
resolve, as if she were about to dive into cold water (41) just to put down her book, because there
is more passion and promise in Virginia Woolf s words than in her own existence. For Clarissa
Vaughn, too, water invokes feelings of discomfort; as she steps from her home onto the streets of
Greenwich Village, she pauses at the threshold as she would at the edge of a pool, watching the
turquoise water lapping at the tiles, the liquid nets of sun wavering in the blue depths (9). She
admires the freshness of the morning, [delaying] for a

  • 2. Active Dentistry Research Paper Smile Again with Restorative Dentistry in Eagle County Has age, constant use, or poor oral hygiene taken its toll on your smile? Have the beautiful smile you once did with some help from Dr. Maloley and the staff of Vail Valley Dental Care. Inlays and Onlays If you experience tooth decay to a severe enough degree that dental fillings are not feasible, yet there is enough healthy tooth left that a dental crown is not necessary, your tooth can be restored with the use of inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays are similar to dental crowns, except that these restorations do not cover the whole tooth; rather, they restore only a portion of your natural crown. • 3. Bad Girl Thesis Back in 1994, popular culture was rabidly obsessed with figure skating thanks to Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie), the bad girl who was accused of coordinating an attack on her skating rival, Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya s skuzzy husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), had hired a friend to intimidate Kerrigan, and the end result was a broken knee and the world famous outcry of, Why?! I, Tonya takes a look at the players of this media circus and lets them tell their own stories in their own words. Director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) cribs from the best and uses all those propulsive camera moves, voice over leading to fourth wall breaking,... Robbie is outstanding, Janney is highly memorable and perfectly cast, and the direction provides plenty of jolts, from electric camerawork to the energetic propulsion through its diverging viewpoints. The dark comedy works, the serious drama works, and the domestic violence is not trivialized with so many ironic winks. • 4. Technology And Its Impact On The Music Industry Essay Technology and Its Impact on the Music Industry Name College Technology and its Impact on the Music Industry Introduction The creation of musical works has always been culminated by several different processes and usually involves many people. The process takes a lot of time delaying the release of music. Advancement in technology has played a significant role in the music production by lowering the length of time it takes to produce recorded material. Artists usually sign a contract with a recording company that markets their music products. The internet and low cost recording technologies have created a do it yourself music movement. New artists have gained worldwide recognition without landing a recording contract with a major record label. Digital files Digitalization, data compression, and the internet have affected the music industry significantly. These technologies have shifted the recording industries from hard copy recordings to digital music distribution. This has made it easier for consumers to enter the music market through copying. Consumers have access to copying technology that allows them to obtain music without paying the record label. The situations clipped high in 1999 when Napster, a file sharing service was launched. The service facilitated music file sharing on a wider scale. The consumers just download the music and transfer it to a digital music device. This has negatively affected the trade value of music sales, for instance in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of The Kite Runner The Kite Runner is a novel that is considered to be a fictional memoir throughout the life of the main character, Amir. Starting in 1975 Afghanistan, the sentiments between the Hazaras and the Pashtuns were very negative and violent. Afghanistan as a country was experiencing a lot of hardships as the two main races and religions that resided in the country began to fight, eventually leading to the war that is still going on today. As a nation, Afghanistanhas a long and interesting history. The Kite Runner itself is written by an Afghan man, Khaled Hosseini, who himself lived in Afghanistan throughout these years. Growing up in Kabul, Hosseini grew up in an area later to be considered as more fortunate and more wealthy than those who lived elsewhere in the country. Khaled s father worked as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, and his mother worked as a persian language teacher at a high school for girls. Later on, after his father got a job in Paris, France. Hosseini s family moved to France and were unable to return to Afghanistan due to the saur revolution, the initial segment leading to the Afghan civil war. The Kite Runner was written in California as Hosseini was studying in medical school, in order to become a doctor. The book itself is fictional, however much of the occurences in the novel are influenced based upon real life scenarios and situations that occur during parts of the war. • 7. Compare And Contrast Aztec And Inca Empires The Aztec and Inca Empires had similarities and differences that contributed to their individual successes. Each Empire had different origins yet the both grew and became powerful Empires. The Aztecs, also known as the Mexica, originated in the valley in Mexico and began as nomadic people, moving from place to place until their powerful neighbors drove them away. Around 1325 A.D. they came upon a valley in Mexicoand settled around the surrounding lakes. The Aztecs built the capital, Tenochtitlan, on an island in the middle of Lake Texcoco, and started to rapidly expand. The Incas also expanded, originating in 1350 A.D. at the city of Cuzco which is located in modern day Peru. When the Inca conquest was over, the Empire spread almost 3,000... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Aztec government never consolidated complete leadership over the Empire and instead relied on a tribute system for payment. The Inca government, however, enforced strict control with harsh punishments. The Incas also had a labor system, called Mita, that required all taxpayers to work for a certain period in each year. Each of these systems played major roles in the longevity of the Empires. Because the Aztecs enforced little control on its conquered peoples, many of them joined Cortez to fight against the Aztecs, which lead to the Aztecs decline. The Incan Empire lasted significantly longer due to the control the government had on the people. The complexity and strict rules of the Empire made it harder for Pizarro to conquer them. Unlike the governments of the two Empires, the religions were extremely similar. Both Empires were polytheistic and worshipped their sun gods above all others. Human sacrifices were common in both civilizations to appease their various gods and goddesses. Some of these deities included nature gods and goddesses that were believed to play a role in determining the year s harvest. • 8. Anthony Storr s A Very Short Introduction Essay Anthony Storrs A Very Short Introduction is a book written about none other than Sigmund Freud. Born into the Jewish religion of which he had no interest in taking part of, Freud was an exceptional man who was very advanced, aware of his surroundings and stubborn. This man was a psychologist, doctor of medical and the Albert Einstein of psychoanalysis if I should say. Freud had a lot of theory s which everyone along with myself didn t quite agree with them all. Born on the 6th day of may in 1856, a man by the name of Sigmund Freud was not only smart; unique in his ways as a boy. He wouldn t even sit at the dinner table with his family for supper, that had to be done separately from them because during eating times, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the years of 1885 1886 Freud s train of thought changed; he realized that in order for him to understand hysteria, he would have to study psychology and not neurology. He believed that the main characteristic of the neurotic person was a lack of normal sex, that s ironic for him to say because not one time threw out this book did I hear him speak on his own sex life, which would lead me to think he didn t have children if he hadn t spoken of them. Freud beliefs of young men between the age of four five in the phallic stage being sexually interested in their mother and aggression towards the father is by far bizarre and disturbing to me. It seems that everything that had to do with neurology in somewhat way lead back to some form of sex or sexuality. In 1892 Freud stopped doing hypnotist practices and changed to free association in order to increase his understanding of neurosis theory. This man believed every symbol in ones dream had to do with something of sex, umbrellas were the symbols of the penis, purse s were the symbols of the vagina. Truly don t understand how he came to that consumption but never the less he was unique in his own way of thought. In one instance Freud became upset when he realized that his patents were emotionally attached to him during their sessions, his first though was that it was an erotic attachment. Across the country, Republicans have led efforts to pass laws making it harder, not easier, for people to vote. Speaking a day after a (meeting to discuss things/meeting together) in Texas remembering (with honor) the 50th (yearly recognition or celebration) of the Civil Rights Act, Mr. Obama linked the issue to the movement that helped pave the way for him to become the nation s first black president. • 10. Transformational Leadership Enhances Employee Motivation Introduction It is far too common in potentially successful businesses, that high ranking executives feel the need to assert power over their peers. Dictatorship within a business setting often leads to a higher rate of employee turnover, and has the ability to impede on organizational productivity. Throughout this paper, I will note several studies that have proven that transformational leadership boosts employee motivation. Unlike transactional leadership, the transformational leader promotes a basis of mutual respect among all coworkers, regardless of rank. True leadership means being open to organizational change in order to foster positivity. By consistently making an effort to improve employee morale, a true leader quietly nurtures motivation, shifting the hardest working employees in to the best fit positions, offering praise and encouragement along the way. The Transformational Leader Authoritative figures in organizations large and small have inadvertently been faced with the decision to choose a leadership style. One method, which proves beneficial to most companies, is transformational leadership. This leadership style implicates a close, positive relationship between the leader and the follower. In these types of professional relationships, it is important to note that the leader sincerely cares for the subordinate s best interest (Men, 2010.) It has been proven that the transformational leader prevails by consistently inspiring and motivating peers, fostering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soldiers back then were all fighting for their countries, they were all wanting there country to win and did anything to make sure there country had the lead. The texts that we picked was Fury directed by David Ayer, The Water Diviner directed by Russell Crowe, The Prologue by Michel King and Hongi Hika: Badass of the week by Ben Thompson and the movie I selected was The Dead Lands by Toa Fraser. The soldiers had to risk their lives to protect their land and make sure that there country had the upper hand. In fury the American solders got put into tanks and was put forward to fight the Germans. In the movie Fury directed by David Ayer. There is a long shot of Norman when he is told to kill a German that is sitting right in front of him with no intentions and no understanding of what is going on, of course he is very reluctant to kill him. Standing right behind him is Wardaddy he is very angary and wants Norman to kill the German very urgently and after a while of anger and pushing Norman, Wardaddy eventually holds the gun with Norman and shoots the German. • 12. Use Of Isolation In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross It is during long periods of isolation that the true character of an individual is revealed. In his text, The Painted Door , Sinclair Ross reiterates this message through his protagonist, Ann. Her isolations are depicted in numerous forms, as a physical isolation from other neighbours, a mental isolation, and an isolation within her marriage. Ross has successfully illustrated the concept of isolation having a detrimental impact on the human spirit. The setting represents the physical aspect of isolation in the story. .... the long white miles of prairie landscape seemed a region strangely alien to life. All round her it was gathering; already in its press and whimpering there strummed a boding of eventual fury. • 13. Causes Of The Treaty Of Versailles In Germany In 1919, after World War I, a representative from England (Lloyd George), Italy (Orlando), France (Clemenceau) and the US (Woodrow Wilson) came together, agreeing that Germany was at fault for the cost of the damage that world war one had caused and drafted the Treaty of Versailles. The main terms of the Treaty were: That the starting of World War One was Germanys fault The amount of 6,600 million pounds was to be paid by Germany for the damage the war caused Germany s army was restructured to a small army with only six naval ships. Germany had land taken from them and give to other countries. Germany itself was in hardship due to World War One. Although they were forced to accept the blame, the country was very poor, jobs were hard to find, food and basic goods were too costly. The people of Germany were unhappy and thus put their trust in the power of a man who promised to defend them against the Treaty of Versailles. This man was Adolf Hitler. It was thought that children s and teens should not be exposed to fictional stories. Then later down the years, YA Literature developed into something else in the 1960s. According to Ashley Strickland, a reporter for CNN, the term young adult was coined by Young Adult Library Services Association during the 1960s to represent the 12 18 age range . In order to take it up a notch, novels began to involve horror along with the realistic issues. Books began to skyrocket, teens were addicted to their new genre, a genre just for them (Strickland). The question that was being asked was why are teens so interested in books about fiction or more like paranormal and dystopian stories? • 15. The Relationship Between Bilingual Education And... Bilingual education involves the practice of teaching non English speaking learners in their native language, while they are learning English. The academic content is taught in both the native language and a secondary language. Program models for bilingual education determine the varying allotted time for each language. It is often a complex array of school programs with different goals and objectives for varying student populations (Bybee Henderson, 2014). Multiculturalism, on the other hand, is the diversity of cultures; racial and religious, that exist in society and the acceptance of customary behaviors, ways of thinking and ways of communicating (Burdick Will Gomez, 2006). Multiculturalism is often contrasted with the concept of assimilation and has been described as a melting pot . This paper will examine the history and current political trends of both bilingual education and multiculturalism. The distinct aspects of, and the relationship between bilingual education and multiculturalism will be discussed and conclude with modern day trends. Bilingual education in the United States public school system has a long standing social and political history that has been plagued by debates about its goals and effectiveness. The policies have typically been informed by theory aimed at identifying the best methods to provide English instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs), and research on bilingual education program effectiveness. Throughout the book you are told the events leading up to the hurricane as well as an in depth look at the actions of certain individuals that greatly impacted the devastation of this horrific storm. This story begins with the introduction of Mr. Isaac Cline, a well educated Tennessee native, who served as the Chief Meteorologist in Galveston, Texas during the late 1800 s. Isaac and his Wife Cora May, as well as their four kids, lived in their newly built storm proof home alongside the Galveston Coast. Isaac took an interest in how weather affected people s health, and did so alongside his ever eager brother, Joseph. During Isaac s time as Chief Meteorologist, he helped lead the change in how modern Meteorologists study the weather today. Sleary And Utilitarianism Utilitarianism, a philosophy that values the happiness of the general population above the happiness of an individual, ironically caused more than its fair share of sorrow. Thriving in the Industrial Revolution s environment of corrupt businessmen, lethargic politicians, and draconian educators, utilitarianism seeks only quantifiable results, abandoning emotion and imagination in favor of facts. With its opening exclamation of Facts, facts, facts! Charles Dickens immediately makes it clear that Hard Times intends to critique the flawed obsessions of utilitarianism. While Dickens conspicuously decorates the circus people with fairytale imagery, he only seems to arrange these imaginative descriptions around Gradgrind in a situation where it would highlight his differences. A prime example of this situation is when Gradgrind reminisces the method he taught his children, annunciating that the first object of which they had remembrance was a large blackboard with a dry Ogre chalking ghastly white figure on it. Not that they knew, by name or by nature, anything about an Ogre. Fact forbid! Though not spoken in reference to Sleary s circus, Dickens elaborates on the relationship between the circus people and the Gradgrinds. On one hand, the circus people readily embrace imagination, it being part of their nature. On the other hand, when Gradgrind even contemplates an ogre, he is greatly disconcerted. Furthermore, Gradgrind s thought process further delineates the mindset of those infatuated with the facts, facts, facts, philosophy. As evident from Dicken s abundant use of fairytale imagery, Sleary s circus symbolizes both imagination and childhood, neither of which appeal to straitlaced ideals of ... The Mexican Culture And The Day Of The Dead The experimentation and research that delves into the mind, social interactions, and the history of social cultures can all relate to why peoples and groups partake in certain social cultural practices. Psychology relates to the study of the human mind. It also studies the brain s functions and uses said functions to explain behavior. Sociologypertains to societies throughout time, being defined as the study of development, structure, and functioning of human societies. Anthropology is defined as the study of human societies and cultures and their development. These three fields of study work to explain behavior and its causes. As popular cultural practices and followings come and go, it is best to use reliable scientific means to attempt to explain the seemingly ridiculous behaviors of those who partake in particular pop culture habits. While some social interactions are silly, such as the obsession with celebrities, some may end up being useful for society. One such useful practice is the celebration of the Day of the Dead. The Mexican culture relating to the Day of the Dead celebrations prove to be useful interactions and practices. At the end of the poem, the narrator looks to Christ and the cross for protection. Furthermore, the primary duty of a hero is to provide his kinsmen with great treasure and weaponry. Bebchuk and Roe accept that there are other reasons for the huge differences between countries legal systems. The size of the economy and the nature of business therein must play a part in the types of governance systems created. Cultural differences must also affect the laws, at a more fundamental level. Conclusion In 2000 Katarina Pistor wrote a paper which examined convergence/divergence issue in transition economies. She concluded that a simple convergence story does not do justice to the complexity of legal change (Pistor 2000, pp. 27). On of the key issues raised in this paper was that legal convergence in transition economies is mainly because of an external supply of legal solutions, and not as a result of the adaptation of successful strategies. Another point was that in many countries, it appeared that systems were developed in response to problems and not with a long term goal in mind. In general, it is clear that neither the convergence or divergence models, tell us the whole story. Whilst some level of convergence has been observed, the persistence of divergence is undeniable. It would be important to interview the patient and ask questions to determine how the patient is feeling about their procedure and to better assist with any anxiety or pain they may be dealing with preoperatively. It is important to consult with the patient well before the procedure to ensure that she knows to refrain from smoking for at least 8 weeks before the procedure because this reduces the risks of complications such as infections, issues with blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow, and respirations when under anesthesia, and promoting overall health and risks associated with smoking after the procedure. • 37. Analyse and Compare the Significance and Effectiveness of... It is a common view that the opening and ending of a novel is considered the most memorable and pertinent. Therefore, both authors, Ishiguro and Atwood, utilise openings and endings in their novels significantly. The opening of a novel plays a major part in establishing the tone of what is to come, with the ending leaving a lasting, final impression on the reader. The security of the first person narration in Never Let Me Go encourages the reader to engage with Kathy H in order to destroy our relationship at the end. This disillusionment serves to anger the reader and fuel our sense of disappointment. Never Let Me Go ends in uncertainty as Kathy drives away still looking for Hailsham yet for the reader there is no uncertainty; we know... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the story of Offred is also questioned in the ending, the Historical Notes. In the beginning we are immediately plunged into a rather fragmented narrative, and a seemingly nightmarish world (in this case the dystopian setting is Gilead) where we know very little about what is going on or what is going to happen to Offred, the main character, sleeping in a gym guarded by aunts . The state of shock and bewilderment created leads to the rest of the opening being read in a state of suspense. The setting of a disused university gymnasium helps to achieve a sense of tension as it subtly reminds the reader of the ideas of nuclear fallout: Offred had slept in what had once been the gymnasium . Gymnasiums often feature in journalism as emergency centres; this location immediately suggests to the reader that something is wrong. The reader is confused as the narrative starts seemingly with a crisis though what that causes is not stated. The first chapter is in past tense and is used to establish her situation and explore how the gymnasium represents the past, with Offred wistfully longing for days of a bygone era. This is reinforced by the narrator reminiscing about high school dances that would have been held in the gym, girls felt skirted...later in mini skirts . It can be argued therefore, that the introduction of the novel serves as a means to persuade the reader to read on; missing vital information and an unfamiliar use of the setting achieve ... • 38. The Effects of Scientific Racism on Black Women Essay The Effects of Scientific Racism on Black Women Scientific racism has been used to oppress, enslave and to justify torture. In my essay I will explore how scientific racism has been used to detriment the health of women of colour. Throughout history women of colour have been experimented upon, sexualized and reproductively abused with scientific racism as justification or the underlying premise for the thought behind this abuse. I will explore this idea using examples throughout various periods of history, as well I will show the contemporary effects. First, I will look at the enslavement of Africans in the New World. During this period women of African descent were raped and abused. They were deemed as sexual beings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This political view flows through the judicial system, as courts apply eugenic philosophies in determining who should be sterilized and for what reasons. Black feminists have investigated how rape as a specific form of sexual violence is embedded in a system of interlocking race, gender, and class oppression (Davis 1978, 1981, 1989; Hall 1983). Reproductive rights issues such as access to information on sexuality and birth control, the struggles for abortion rights, and patterns of forced sterilization have also garnered attention Examining the links between sexuality and power in a system of interlocking race, gender, and class oppression should reveal how important controlling Black women s sexuality has been to the effective operation of domination overall. Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table Disaster Response Leadership Research Evaluation Table In this report, we have critically evaluated an article published in the International Journal of Leadership Studies entitled Disaster Response Leadership: Perception of American Red Cross Workers (Wheeler, Weeks Montgomery, 2013). This article was chosen because it is directly related to the topic of module 2: Leadershipand Leadership Theories. Research Evaluation Table Research Topic Leadership is an important aspect of management sciences. Over the past century, many theories have been developed to provide managers with the tools required to effectively lead their subordinates. From a simplistic theory cataloguing individual traits and characteristics, leadership has become a complex science shaped by many forces (ex: behavioural sciences, organizational culture, strategic management trends etc.) (Avolio, Walumba and Weber, 2009). Problem or Management Dilemma Recent traumatic events have put forward a new field of study within leadership theory: crisis leadership. Like Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.79) points out: many leaders have been criticised how they have responded to a crisis situation, but little is known about how leaders must adapt their leadership style within crisis management. In order to understand this problem, Wheeler, Weeks and Montgomery (2013, p.80) highlights that the study of various crisis organizations could provide the conceptual framework to better understand how one can ... • 40. A Brief History of the Berlin Wall Essay The Berlin Wall Walls are one of man s oldest defenses; physical barriers that are erected to keep people out, or, in some cases, to keep them in. Walls are physical fortifications that create tension and distain among people on both sides. This is what the Berlin Wall, or der Mauer in German, was; a physical barrier created in Berlin, Germany during the Cold War. It was created by the East Germans in an attempt to stop East German citizens from immigrating to Western Germany. However, the Berlin wall was a crude attempt to separate the political and social variances in Germany during the Cold War, because, while it created a physical barrier, it still was unable separate people in an ethic manor. This large barrier came equipped with guards, and only had a small gate termed Checkpoint Charlie, which was reserved for military and diplomatic use between the two sides (Tucker). The wall was the tall divider of people; of families and friends, as it was created to keep people from leaving. After its construction, The Wall separated the two sides, but also created more issues than it solved. For instance, between 1961 and 1989, the East German guards shoot to kill order against refugees resulted in about 250 300 deaths ( Berlin Wall ). Those killed were most likely the artisans who desired to leave in the first place, or the people who were separated from their families in the initial construction of the Wall. Seeing as it also stretched through the center of the city, anyone caught on the wrong side was trapped there. They were stuck, forced to spend their days separated. If they attempted to leave, they could become part of the 200 people who were shot dead while attempting to scale the wall (Raichelle). However, despite this, thousands of East Germans still managed to escape across the barrier ( Cold War ). Hitler not only persecuted the Jews of Germany, but he also targeted the Jews in Poland and other parts of Europe, such as Transylvania, which was the home of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. During the following days and nights, Moesh spread his story throughout the community in an effort to warn his people of the impending terror, but no one believed him. Wiesel summarized the general feeling of the community by stating, Could he exterminate a population scattered throughout so many countries? So many millions! What methods could he use? And in the middle of the twentieth century! 3 Other reports indicate that the Jews did not believe that Hitler s attempted genocide was occurring. The Definition Of Public Relations Essay Deconstructing the PRINZ definition of Public Relations Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation s relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as The deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its publics. This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory s meanings as well as relationships with aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed. Gordon (2011) describes publics as potential or actual audiences connected to various messages. (Rawlins, 2006) furthers this statement by stating that publics ...can be employees, shareholders, political leaders, consumers, etc. and ...are often segmented even further by demographics, geographics, or psychographics. (p.133). Grunig and Repper (1992) expand on this saying publics are self formed and identify organisations for attention, essentially meaning publics are groups of people linked by a common interest or problem. To this end, the most adopted techniques have been nearest neighbor rules and syntactic patterns. To improve the performance of these methods, we can specially design exquisite, high precision patterns. However, with an increase in corpus size, this strategy is likely to miss more items and has lower recall. In this paper proposes a novel approach based on the partially supervised alignment model, which regards identifying opinion relations as an alignment process. Compared to the traditional unsupervised alignment model, the proposed model obtains better precision because of the usage of partial supervision. Compared to syntax based methods, our word alignment model effectively alleviates the negative effects of parsing errors when dealing with informal online texts. The objective is to propose a method based on a monolingual Word alignment model (WAM). An opinion target can find its corresponding modifier through word alignment. • 53. The Biofuel Industry Biofuels have been used as a source of energy for thousands of years. Wood was the first biofuel to be used as a means to create fires for cooking. Since that time we have discovered numerous ways to use them and the various forms of biofuels that are available for use. Presently our use of biofuels consists largely of additives to gasoline in the form of ethanol. Ethanol is found in almost all of our gasoline products today, in which about 10% is typically mixed as an additive. Some gas stations are now offering nearly pure ethanol fuelknown as E85 which is 85% ethanol. This makes ethanol the most common biofuelused worldwide. In response to this, farmers around the world have increased biofuel plant production as a means to meet the new growing demand for it. As time goes on, more modern farming practices are expected to continue to increase the output at which farmers can grow corn and other ethanol producing plants thereby fueling the biofuel gas industry. With more resources available to use, ethanol will be an even cheaper additive than it is now. Biofuels as a whole are made up of a large variety of organisms or their byproducts, leaving a multiple of sources to choose from. Paradoxically, since the days of ancient creation epics, the sea has been a symbol of chaos and danger; clearly, water takes on these characteristics in the terrifying ocean in The Awakening and in the river that swallows Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Yet for each major character in the two novels, water yields lucidity in its wake; it is the cure that brings closure to each story and enlightenment to each woman. Water, in many forms, affects every major character in [oh god what s a synonym for the two novels ]. Fears of submersion, overpowering tears, visions of deep sea creatures, and baptismal deaths all seep into the pages of the two novels. In some cases, water is clearly something to be avoided; take, for example, Laura Brown s reluctance to begin her tasks as a housewife in the morning. She must [summon] resolve, as if she were about to dive into cold water (41) just to put down her book, because there is more passion and promise in Virginia Woolf s words than in her own existence. For Clarissa Vaughn, too, water invokes feelings of discomfort; as she steps from her home onto the streets of Greenwich Village, she pauses at the threshold as she would at the edge of a pool, watching the turquoise water lapping at the tiles, the liquid nets of sun wavering in the blue depths (9).
