Lilia Efimova discusses using weblogs as personal knowledge bases and aids for developing ideas. She analyzes her own blogging practices and coding of blog entries. Efimova also studies conversations between knowledge management bloggers by mapping links within and between their blogs. Insights from urban studies are presented on the needs for contact, knowledge, and stimulation that are satisfied in public spaces. Implications for design include providing comfortable, protected space to support longer-term, meaningful individual activities and low-intensity social contact.
