Leadership Philosophy Statement
Effective educational leaders are needed to help maneuver through a constantly
changing world and environment. The right type of leader can steer through the myriad of
problems that arise from today’s diverse market. In my opinion, a successful leader holds a
holistic picture of what is going on and knows how to synergize and keep balance in the
midst of this change; able to adapt to the situation at hand. Success starts with a vision so a
true leader not only holds a clear vision, but also the ability to show how the vision can be
made into a reality.
Approach
The approach I hold is based on looking beyond my own interests and acting upon
what is best for the organization and team. Understanding the value of teamwork through
empowerment of others helps to strengthen and deepen the organization. Leaders must
establish meaningful relationships by the development of reciprocal relations with the key
being the development of a community of practitioners that are not expected to go it alone.
One key component of critical thinking in a community of practitioners is for peers to
interact and invoke strategies to work through problems. In this group-centered social
setting, working with others fosters fresh ideas and assists in the development of trust.
Through empowerment team members play a more active role in the fostering of ideas and
processes that in turn lead to a feeling of pride, competence, determination, satisfaction, and
persistence.. It is through open communication, and research based practice where effective
practice occurs. The social aspect of leadership is paramount because when teams are
involved in strategic conversation, reflection, and evaluation, the collaborative setting can be
a powerful vehicle in propelling an organization forward.
LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT 3
Qualities
Leadership means to lead by example, while having the tenacity to know when to lay
back and let others step up to the challenge. I promote teamwork and release my own power
to shift to a more group think forum in which people are captivated and encouraged. As I am
enthusiastic and motivated, I tend to make the environment challenging yet fun as I seek to
move the group toward our ultimate goal. My greatest qualities can be found in idealized
charisma and individualized consideration. I am a charismatic person who displays great
vision, self-confidence, motivation, and dedication. As I am an extremely hard worker, I
inspire others through role modeling and open communication. I solicit trust and innovation
based on my own qualities of self-sacrifice and risk taking. My creativity and passion help to
inspire others to express ideas and concerns, build on new ideas, actively listen, and solicit
differing views.
Practices
In today’s ever changing society, it is imperative for successful leaders to stay current
in research and best practice and model the use of 21st century learning. There are many
challenges faced by modern classroom instructors as we address the multicultural
backgrounds of both educators and students. The cultural differences need to be addressed
and both teachers and students are given ample opportunity to share experiences. Curriculum
should be open-ended and flow out of experiences and activities in which diversity can be
explored. The ideals of social equality require teachers to engage in professional
development activities to learn about various cultures. To provide a well-rounded education,
teachers need to bring in different perspectives to their curriculum. Leaders need to model
and solicit change seekers as students are expected to gain an understanding of the more

global environment in which they live. Instruction must be tailored to reflect the learning
styles and methods of all students in the classroom. It is the role of educational leaders to
help educators understand the role that self-identity plays in the development and mastery of
critical thinking skills. A vital relationship exists between understanding the environment in
which students learn and the ability of teachers to facilitate the learning process. My goal is
to achieve equality of results, so leadership in tandem with teachers must work together to
develop strategies and best practice where all students succeed. The key is to develop the
whole child through education that transcends the home, family, community, and educational
setting.
