Personal Leadership Philosophy

Leadership is not implied, it is earned. Leadership means having followers that are inspired to follow.
Leadership should provide direction and motivation to accomplish established goals and improve the
status quo.
My leadership philosophy is based on ensuring that you understand who I am, what I value and expect
from you. My style has been crafted by observing other leader’s behaviors (some good, some bad), my
personal ideals, and aspirations by which I lead my life. It is my belief that instilling my personal values
and ideals will translate into effective leadership and provide the mechanism for inspiring, to look to me,
for guidance.
As your leader, my role will be to support your professional goals within the context of our mission, by
providing challenging opportunities, coaching and clear direction, while maintaining integrity.
How I will lead:
Modeling positive behavior, such as recognizing the success of others, and expressing the appreciation
and how it has contributed to our overall success. I will follow thru on my commitments and deliver
results. I will be open to constructive criticism and continual self-improvement.
I will establish clear objectives and goals that are attainable, measurable and allow for adjustments as
required. It is imperative to me that we maintain a framework for success, but be flexible and open to
adopting innovative ideas. I will be sensitive to your personal and career challenges and open to listening
to your concerns. I am analytical, but will always strive to make decisions in a timely manner, so expect
that I will make a decision based on the best information that is available. I will always make the tough
call. I enjoy laughing and having fun, so you can expect that I’ll bring levity to our work.
My Values:
People are our greatest assets, and along with your positive attitudes we will be positioned for outstanding
achievements. Strong team work is very powerful, as it creates a climate of creativity and input from
diverse points of view. I place a lot of value on commitment to our mission, as it will provide a clear
focus on our purpose. Effective and clear communication with your colleagues will be the mechanism for
minimizing mistakes and missteps, building team work, trust and credibility. Remember, it is ok to ask
for help. Negligence that results in self-inflicted problems or incidents will surely limit our ability to
maintain a positive performance trend. Last but not least, have pride in your work and always be striving
for quality output.

Expectations:
Among the things that I expect from you include respect, decisiveness and solution orientation. Have
respect for yourself as well as your colleagues. Think about your actions and how it may impact your
working relationships and work products. Be prepared to make decisions, and own them once they are
made. If you are faced with an issue, seek out options to resolve them, escalate when required, but own
the issue and track it through resolution.
Unacceptable:
Our energy should always be focused on positive efforts. Things such as gossip, sabotage or intimidation
are not acceptable. Nothing good ever results from these activities, therefore you should not engage it that
practice, as it is intolerable. Insubordination will undermine our leadership efforts and create an
atmosphere of dissent among your colleagues. Any activities such as these are based in negative energy.
Please refrain from that behavior and, use that energy to improve yourself, a relationship, or process that
will add value to our organization.
Conclusion:
I have provided you with my priorities, values, expectations and my decision making style. My final
expectations are that you carry these principles forward and integrate these into our culture. I am counting
on you to hold me accountable to these principles, as I will hold you to the highest professional and
ethical standards as well.
