The document discusses the rise and fall of empires throughout history. It begins by examining the first empire started by Alexander the Great and the influence of the Greek Empire on later empires. As Rome grew in population and size, its republican government struggled and Julius Caesar transformed it into the Roman Empire. After Caesar's assassination, civil war erupted until Octavian established himself as emperor, concentrating power from the senate. The Roman Empire later divided between east and west, weakening it and making it susceptible to invasion and fall to other groups like the Vandals and Visigoths.
2. Many of the things that derive power are money, religion, and trade. Empires are driven by people that want to be in power and want to feel control. Empires began with Alexander the great who led the Greeks. The Greek Empire was kind of the example Empire and many ideas from later empires came from the Greek one. A republic can be defined as a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch(def. from Google dictionary).
3. An Empire is an extensive group of states or countries under a single supreme authority (def. from Google dictionary). When Rome first came to power they started as a republic. Then they started to grow and increase in population. This caused many problems for the government that was set up at the time. It just s happened that during this time Julius Cesar came to power. While in power Cesar led the Roman Republic into becoming the Roman Empire.
4. Cesar was very power hungry and over time accumulated many enemies. Caesar was eventually assassinated by his own senate. Civil war then broke out in Rome. The next leader to come to power was Octavius Augustus who helped end the civil war in Rome. After ending the war he declared himself empire which is how he came to power. He took control of the government and took away a majority of the power that was spread amongst the senate. After this the Romans began to have a much more military driven government then in the past.
5. Due to a struggle in power Rome became divided. The division was between the east (Constantinople) and the west (Rome). When the Empire was one they were able to expand and conquer and when they split the Roman Empire began to weaken. With the weakened Empire they were very susceptible to invasion. Rome continuously invaded and eventually fell to the Vandals and the Visigoths. Constantinople was also able to be invaded and was overthrown by the Ottoman Turks.
