Emmanouil Pappas is a municipality in northern Greece named after a local historical figure who led resistance against Ottoman rule during the Greek War of Independence in the early 19th century. The municipality contains eight villages and its economy was traditionally based around agriculture. Serres, the largest town near the municipality, offers opportunities for ecotourism, festivals, shopping and more. Emmanouil Pappas himself was born in a village that now bears his name, fought to organize guerilla troops against the Ottomans, and launched the revolution in the region in 1821.
