Education
What is
Peace
Education?
Peace Education
Peace Education Holds Both Philosophical
Principles and Processes (Skills)
Peace education
Seeks to build on the philosophy and the
processes of nonviolence to help us
understand the role that conflict and
violence have played in our own lives,
seeking ways to transform them.
Everyone dreams of a better
place to live.
Better in what sense. . . ?
Beautiful . . .
Progressive . . .
But, are we contented with our
communities at present ?
No! Definitely
not just yet…
Everyone dreams of a better
place.
But , we first have to deal with the
many problems / conflicts at hand.
What are some of these problems /
conflicts ?
Remember the 2nd World War
37.6 Million Military Deaths
* In addition… Millions of civilians
are likewise victimized !
Not only soldiers die during armed conflicts.
Jews’ corpses in a common grave ( Auschwitz, Poland )
Systematically Collected and Murdered
6 Million killed . . . by order of
Germany’s Adolf Hitler ( WW 2 )
. . . Man’s Worst Inhumanity to Man ?
* 9/11 ( 2001 ) in New York, USA
International Terrorism
More than 3 Thousand Killed !
. . . Clash of Civilizations ? ? ?
Other Armed Conflicts. . .
Afghanistan, Israel, Iraq
. . . in Thailand, and . . .
* Even in the Philippines Political, Economic
and Social Conflicts,
Instability, Crises, etc,
Zamboanga
Tacloban
Maguindanao Massacre
Alegria SDN PNP outpost siege
by NPA
*And the Continues threat of
Terrorism inspite of Osama bin
Laden’s death
Other kinds of Conflicts . . .
Population Explosion
vs.
Insufficient Resources
China: 1.6 B People
Still Increasing . . .
India: 1.4 B People
Still Increasing . . .
*Philippines: 94 M People (2010)
Still Increasing . . .
Resulting to the Problem of . . .
Hunger and Poverty !
The conflict of whose
control over the world’s
limited resources.
*Infant Deaths
* Malnutrition
Starvation
Desperation and Loss of Hope
Who and where do we turn to
for help ?
*Our Families ? Yes, but families are beset with
many challenges.
Fact: More than 50% of all marriages end in Divorce.
The leading cause of Broken and Dysfunctional Families
The alarming rate of
Divorce and Separation
is the main cause of the
increase in the cases of
Mental and
Psychological
Disorders.
Parents who
always quarrel
in front of the
children.
Irresponsible parents who
don’t have time for their
children.
* Governments . . . ?
Too many other Concerns, incompetence
and Bad Governance are widespread
“ The youth is the fair hope of
our fatherland. ”
“ Kabataan ang siyang pag-asa
ng bayan. ”
Dr. Jose P. Rizal
National Hero
Alcohol Abuse
Pornography
Cigarette addict
*Peer Pressure/ Curiosity
/Enjoy the Kick or High of
the Drugs
*BAD Influence by
friends.
*Substance abuse…
The Conflict within !
Free Sex
as the leading cause of
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Over 30 MILLION
people in our world are
infected with HIV and more
than 8,000 people die of
AIDS each day
.
* And, Unwanted and Teenage
Pregnancy
Major cause of unfulfilled
futures and reduced
career ambitions especially
among the youth / students.
Main cause of the increase
in cases of abortions
and contraceptives use.
Love has been HIJACKED
In addition, we are
also in conflict with
our world – with our
environment,
because of
Pollution.
In our waters…
In our atmosphere…
In our land…
Solid Waste ( )
Our Planet
Mother Earth
is in Pain !
She now shows signs
of Suffering and Distress !
The Earth is Over burned
Causing
Global Warming and Climatic Changes
Peace with Nature
Environmental Education
And if that is not yet too bad enough…
We are living in a time where
conflicts have been dangerously
raised to a sophisticated and
terrifyingly new level because of
the Nuclear Weapons of Mass
Destruction!
The Race continues … in Iran, in North Korea,
Which country will join the race next ?
Initially only the US, then USSR, next are
China, France, et al. Now India, Pakistan,
*Mad Nuclear Arms Race. . .
WHOSE NEXT?…
Fact: The next Nuclear War will be our planet Earth and all
of Humanity’s LAST !
Now, much more destructive than ever.
“We must not only prepare our
children for the world-we must
prepare the world for our
children”
Humanity have addressed and have
been addressing these conflicts. But, to
our disappointment, these challenges
have remained unresolved and is getting
worse with the passage of time !
Thus, we need a new perspective . . .
Peace with God
# Serving and helping children and young
people must not be secondary but rather
primary and central.
# Children are strategic to Peace
initiative for our countries growth –
the key word is LOVE
#Children are strategic in fostering Peace and Unity.
# Small organization struggle to engage with
transformation and socio-economic reconstruction or
policymaking regarding PEACE initiative. But we can
engage with children who are hungry, neglected and
abused on their doorsteps and feed their mind with
Filipino Peace Values.
Peace of God
PEACE- - material and physical state of affairs.
- it can also refer to relationships
- also has a moral sense,
- state of well being okayness
- abundance or blessings
- safe and sound from some danger,
- relationship between people or inner state of
mind.
Loving One’s Enemy
Tolstoy
“The Kingdom of
God is Within You”
Gandhi
Non-violent resistance
“We never get rid of an enemy
by meeting hate with hate; we
get rid of an enemy by getting
rid of enmity.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Do you know God?
- Are you sure He is in your heart?
- Perhaps you have been thinking I want to be sure I have peace with
God.
- I want to be sure that I’m ready for death.
- I want my guilt removed.
- I want to be with God when He comes and sets up His Kingdom.
- It’s all yours and it’s free you don’t have to work for it.
- Give Peace a chance
- ”For by grace you are saved through faith; and not of your good
works; it is a gift of God not of works.
- Give your heart and life to God now. Do not put it off
Peace at Last!
Peace Be With
You! 
