teaching learning process.

4. IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH
TEACHING
ï‚— Providing patient teaching is an important function of
nurse. As client has right to know right information, giving
information regarding clients health status is mandatory.
ï‚— Patient teaching involves dynamic interaction between
client & nurse. Patient teaching is important to
communicate information, emotion, perception and
attitude towards health or disease condition.
ï‚— Patient teaching ensure the patient safe transition from
one level of care to another. It also help in making
appropriate plans for follow-up education in the clients
homes.
ï‚— As client has right to make informed decisions about his
health, giving patient teaching is very important.
5. ROLE OF NURSE IN PATIENT
TEACHING
ï‚— In patient teaching, the nurse works are as a educator
so the nurse needs to be knowledgeable & confident.
ï‚— The nurse should keep in mind the patients age,
educational status, socioeconomically status, learning
needs of the patient before providing teaching.
ï‚— The important role of the nurse is to help the client
personally work through the problem & identity
needs. It is observed that sometimes client need help
in identification of information relevant to their
situation before they can see a need.
6. ï‚— The nurse should observe the clients emotional,
physical needs. Because in anxiety, pain, the client
cannot be attentive.
ï‚— The nurse needs to encourage & motivate the nurse to
learn at specific time.
ï‚— The nurse needs to provide conductive environment
while delivering information to client. She should
observe lighting system, ventilation, & temperature &
noise free atmosphere.
7. ï‚— The nurse should make the patient to actively involved
in patients teaching. Active participation, active
learning promotes critical thinking & enable the client
to solve problems more effectively.
ï‚— The nurse should follow the principles of teaching
such as simple to complex; the nurse should organize
the content of client teaching.
8. GUIDELINE FOR EFFECTIVE
PATIENT TEACHING
ï‚— Development & maintenance of rapport between
nurse client is important.
ï‚— Knowledge of clients previous learning enables nurse
to encourage client & facilitate learning skill.
ï‚— Time for developing teaching should be opted as per
clients convenience.
ï‚— Nurse should have all communication skill such as
confidence, good voice & tone, eye contact, speak
clearly & concisely.
ï‚— Language: Local language should be prepared as it will
be easily understood by client.
9. ï‚— Active involvement of client fosters learning.
ï‚— Reputation reinforces learning, so at the end of
learning summarization of content should be done.
ï‚— Teaching that involves number of clients senses often
enhance learning such as giving demonstration.
ï‚— Use of audio-visual aids foster learning & grasp the
clients attention.
