Although new technology may be a challenge for some, informatics will enhance
nursing practice. We'll have quicker access to patient information, improve overall
efficiency, and see a reduction in potential errors.

profession is acting according to the regulatory beliefs of the hospital or institution you
work for and upholding their standards and expectations regarding patient care.

minds. It is an indispensable tool for every career and organization. It is also self-
motivated persistence in acquiring knowledge and competencies in order to expand
your skill set and develop future opportunities. It forms part of your personal and
professional development in an effort to avoid stagnation and reach your full potential.
Today, continuous learning forms a necessary part in acquiring critical thinking skills
and discovering new ways of relating to people from different cultures. To live a life
without continuous learning is unthinkable.

2. As a nursing professional we should continue to actively engage in continuing
professional development to maintain high standards of nursing care through competent
practice. Continuing learning professional development is central to nurses’ lifelong
learning and constitutes a vital aspect for keeping nurses’ knowledge and skills up-to-
date. While we know about the need for nurses’ continuing professional development,
less is known about how nurses experience and perceive continuing professional
development.
In the current health care system change has become constant so it has been recognized
that lifelong or continuous learning is even more imperative for nurses to ensure that they
can develop their skills to keep pace with these changes and improve their performance.
Continuous professional development is very much part of the process of lifelong learning
as it is a range of activities related to learning through which health care professionals
maintain their ability to practice safely and effectively within legal boundaries.
