3. Safety Moment
SAMI standard practice is to start all meetings with a safety moment. This includes
our internal meetings and meeting with clients.
Here is a quick safety reminder for today:
Use of electric cords and extension cords in a meeting room: an adequate
number of electrical sockets should be provided and hopefully in a location so
cords are not on the floor. Having table top access is preferred. Cords on the
floor can definitely be a tripping hazard so we need to not run these cord across
walkways or aisles. If you absolutely have to have a cord or extension cord on
the floor, tape it down or provide a cord runner strip. Keep it safe!

6. PAS55 Understanding
▲ PAS55-1 defines Asset Management as:
• systematic and coordinated activities and practices through which an
organization optimally and sustainably manages its assets and asset
systems, their associated performance, risks and expenditures over their
life cycles for the purpose of achieving its organizational strategic plan
▲ The development of the Publicly Available Specification (PAS) has been led
by the Institute of Asset Management (IAM), in collaboration with the British
Standards Institution (BSI).
▲ The International Standards organization (ISO) has now accepted PAS55 as
the basis for development of the new ISO 55000 series of international
standards; planned publication in 2014 .

10. PAS55 Understanding
What is the Value of PAS55
▲ It is a set of systematic and coordinated activities and practices through which
an entire organization optimally manages it’s assets, and their associated
performance, risks and costs, over their lifecycle.
▲ It forces the organization to work across it’s silos to define the overarching
outcomes they agree to achieve over the life cycle of the assets, as well as
integrate and optimize the overall system of assets.
▲ It forces the organization to think in strategic time horizons for asset
management.
▲ It can facilitate the achievement of long term stretch objectives for asset
performance.
▲ It can drive continuous improvement through implementation of asset
management plans.
▲ It is designed to adjust policy, strategies, objectives and plans as the
organization’s strategic plans evolve.

11. PAS55 Understanding
PAS55 Has Some Limitations
▲ It does not evaluate the quality of the strategies, objectives, and plans which
are developed.
▲ It does not require review of the efficiencies of the strategies, objectives and
plans which are executed. To do this, a detailed data driven assessment needs
to be performed and controls and monitoring put in place.
▲ It does not consider the underlying behaviors that are required to sustain high
levels of performance.
▲ It does not require meeting established and agreed performance objectives to
be deemed compliant, and does not require the establishment of world class
objectives.

12. SAMI PAS55 Approach and Opportunities
SAMI PAS55 Options

13. SAMI PAS55 Approach and Opportunities
SAMI PAS55 Assessment Methodology
▲Interviews with management team and persons performing the actual work.
We schedule and execute contacts to minimize the impact on standard
work processes.
▲Comparison of current performance against the 28 elements of PAS-55.
▲IAM PAM (PAS55 Assessment Methodology) Tool utilizes a MS Excel
based gap assessment tool to explore the maturity level of the organization.
These maturity levels are aligned with the principles of the International
Infrastructure Management Manual.
▲SAMI will also triangulate the interview information with documentation and
metrics. If applicable, some limited/selective observations from key
meetings.
▲Analysis of the collective information will be used to assign the maturity
level of each element.

SAMI Additional Assessment Capabilities
▲ As we mentioned earlier, PAS55 Has Some Limitations:
▲ Doesn’t assess the quality of the strategies, objectives, and plans
▲ Doesn’t require review of the efficiencies of the strategies, objectives and plans
executed.
▲ It does not consider the underlying behaviors that are required to sustain high
levels of performance.
▲ To do this, a detailed data driven assessment needs to be performed and
controls and monitoring put in place. SAMI has several offerings for
assessments that focus on behaviors and performance as well as the
PAS55 requirements. SAMI can focus on Asset
Healthcare, Production, Supply Chain and Capital Management.
